Dear God thank you for as allowing me to have the freedom of my life. Thank you for helping me. I quit smoking cigarettes 5 years ago after reading a book from ###. Now I am reading another book from ### to help me stop drinking alcohol and today this morning I am having my last drink. Amen I am no longer going to ask you to help me with my ### or ###. Thank you for giving me the courage and the strength and the ability to trust you and I hope that someday I can help another person do this too. I hope that you can help me be a better person and a better husband and a better dad to our adult kid's and a better worker Bee to help my employer. I give everything to you. You have given me a good life and a good wife and many good jobs and I just want to let you know that I am so thankful for my life. Yes it's been tough. But if wasn't tough I would not need to ask you for help. I understand after ### years of life how you have created such a beautiful world and a beautiful universe. Wow . Your amazing! Again I can only say thank you. I hope that others who read this will also understand that they too will be ok as long as they ask you for help and that they try their best to be a good person and try to help another person. It feels good to be able to help another person and then to tell them that it's not from me. It's from our lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pass it on.

We hear your heartfelt cry to the Lord, and we rejoice with you in the victories He has already given you, freedom from smoking and now the courage to lay down alcohol at His feet. Your gratitude for His provision and your desire to live a life that honors Him as a husband, father, and worker are beautiful testimonies of His grace at work in you. We stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before the throne of grace, where our Heavenly Father delights in hearing the cries of His children.

The Scriptures tell us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." You have already walked in this truth by overcoming smoking, and now you are choosing to walk in it again by surrendering alcohol. This is not by your strength alone, but by the power of the Holy Spirit working within you. We praise God for the work He is doing in your life!

Your commitment to be a better husband, father, and employee reflects the heart of Christ, who came not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45). As you seek to live a life of service and love, remember that it is Christ who empowers you. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Lean on Him daily, and He will sustain you.

We must also address the areas where you have struggled in the past, not to condemn, but to encourage you to walk in the fullness of God’s design for your life. The Bible is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Addictions, whether to substances like alcohol or other struggles, can hinder our ability to fully serve God and others. But praise be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57)! You are not alone in this battle, and we pray that God will continue to strengthen you as you walk in obedience to Him.

Your desire to help others find the same freedom you have found is a powerful testimony. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, "Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven." As you share your story, point others to Christ, for it is only through Him that true transformation and healing come. Your willingness to say, "It’s not from me, but from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," is a beautiful reflection of humility and truth.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the work You are doing in this brother’s life. Lord, we thank You for the victories You have already given him, freedom from smoking and now the courage to surrender alcohol to You. We ask that You would strengthen him in this new season of obedience. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in the power and freedom that only You can provide. Help him to resist temptation and to stand firm in his faith, knowing that You are faithful to provide a way of escape.

Father, we pray for his marriage. May he love his wife as Christ loves the church, with selflessness, patience, and grace. Give him wisdom as a father to guide his adult children with love and truth, pointing them always to You. Bless his work, Lord, that he may serve his employer with integrity and diligence, reflecting Your character in all he does.

Lord, we ask that You would continue to mold him into the man You have called him to be. Use his testimony to touch the lives of others, that they too may find freedom and hope in You. Guard his heart from discouragement and fill him with Your peace, joy, and purpose.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone has the power to transform lives and set captives free. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord daily, immersing yourself in His Word and in prayer. Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage and support you in your walk with Christ. Remember, it is not by your strength alone, but by His grace that you are being transformed. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and He will lead you into all that He has for you. You are not alone, we are with you in prayer, and more importantly, God is with you always.

Quitting cigarettes five years ago took real grit, and we believe that same God-given courage is already at work in you as you take this step with alcohol. Having your last drink this morning isn't just an ending; it's a profound act of trust.

We noticed something powerful in what you wrote: you're not just asking for help anymore, you're surrendering the whole outcome. That's a turning point many people miss. You're releasing the things you can't control and resting in the One who holds it all. That's not giving up; that's wisdom. And your hope of someday helping another person walk this same road? That's already a sign of the healing taking root. Recovery often grows strongest when it's given away.

Right now, the most important thing you can do is not drink today. Just today. And then tomorrow, do it again. You might also consider finding a few people who understand this fight, a support group or a trusted friend who's walked this path. We all need companions who can celebrate the small victories with us and steady us when the road gets rocky. You don't have to figure out the rest alone.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the freedom this dear man is tasting today. Thank you for the five years of victory over cigarettes and for the courage to set down this last drink. May his gratitude become his anchor, and may the day come soon when he gets to pass this hope on to someone else. We trust you for every need he has released into your hands. What a mercy it is when a soul turns from the broken cisterns of this world to seek the fountain of living waters in Christ Jesus! The thankfulness that runs through your words is a sweet savor, for the saints of God, when they are rescued from their sorrows, are sure to sing, "My soul does magnify the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God, my Savior." You have learned what many never grasp, that the tough times drive us to the throne of grace, and there we find help. You have done well to lay hold of that truth.

Yet let me stir you up by way of remembrance. You speak of laying down the drink this morning even as you once laid down the cigarette. This is a day for holy resolve, but beware of trusting in your own resolve. Deliverance from sin is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. A book may stir the mind, and a wise counsellor may point the way, but only the Spirit of God can break the chains of a man’s bondage. I charge you, then, to look not to your own strength, for if you do, you will set out in the flesh and find yourself wallowing in the mire before many days have passed. Would you be free indeed? You must have a better foundation than your own promise.

Here is the glorious gospel: God has found a ransom. You know the burden of your sin, and this new battle with the bottle may reveal how deep that burden runs. But look to the Son of God pouring out His life and trust Him, and your sins are gone in a moment. The ransom was not found in your tears, nor your efforts, nor your books, but in the precious blood of Christ. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance from the pit if God had not thought of it. Cast yourself upon Him now with all your guilt and all your helplessness. He that delivered you from the pit of despair when first you believed is He that will deliver you from this enemy also. Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification. As you were justified through Jesus Christ, so you must expect to receive sanctification from that same heavenly source.

I perceive in your words a glad surrender: “I give everything to you.” That is well said, for a Christian is not his own, but bought with a price. This done, make a further dedication of yourself to your delivering God. Let this day be a day of solemn consecration. Risen from the grave of sinful habits, declare with all your heart, “I will live to Him forever and forever.” Do not be like the man who says he will do his best, for that is to lower the law of God because you cannot come up to it. Your best will never be enough; but Christ is enough. Go to the golden book, the word of God with its thousands of promises, and drink deeply from that well. There you will find the living water that satisfies the thirst of your soul and gives you strength to resist every craving of the flesh.

Now that you have tasted that the Lord is good, you long to help others. That is a right instinct. We must labor for the Lord in whom we are trusting, for what have we received but that we may go and do for others as God has done for us? When the Lord brings you forth from this prison house, do not hold your peace. Tell others freely that it was not by your own power, but by the hand of God. Yet remember this: you can only tell what you have truly known. If you would help another poor sinner, you must first be clear in your own soul that you have received mercy from headquarters. The child of God is not made to go limping with a questionable hope. Deal with God as you would have your children deal with you. If He says He will save you if you trust Him, then if you trust Him, He will save you. The feeblest faith in a true God can never be put to shame.

Go forward, then, not looking back, but rejoicing in hope of the glory of God. You have present peace, but there still remains a rest for the people of God. The blood of the Lamb marks your door; the destroyer cannot touch you. Live henceforth as a freeman, for he is the freeman whom the truth makes free. Let your wife, your children, your employer see a new man, one who walks in joyful, humble, grateful obedience. God has showed you light, and you shall not die but live, and declare the works of the Lord. The God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, will Himself perfect, strengthen, settle you. Amen.
