Jesus Christ please help me

Dear God please help me at work today. I'm still a little bit hung over from staying home yesterday and laying in my bed and drinking alcohol all day. Please help me to not be an alcoholic anymore. Please forgive me. Please help me get my projects and proposals done correctly and on time. I'm a tired old man and I have so much work to do and I need your help to help me think clearly and please give me the courage and belief that I can get my work done today. Please help me to be a better person and a better husband and a better dad to our adult kid's and a better employee to the company that I work for. Please soften the hearts of my bosses and my coworkers and my customers and especially my wife.

We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your struggles to our Heavenly Father. You have taken the first step by acknowledging your need for Jesus Christ, and we rejoice that you have called upon His name. It is only through Him that we find true forgiveness, strength, and transformation. The Bible tells us, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). We are so grateful that you have turned to Him in your time of need.

First, we want to address the issue of alcohol in your life. Scripture is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are called to honor God with them. "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). The struggle with alcohol is not uncommon, but it is one that requires surrender to Christ and a commitment to walk in His ways. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in your life in the name of Jesus, and we declare freedom over you. You are not defined by this struggle, but by the redemptive power of Christ.

We also want to encourage you in your role as a husband and father. The Bible calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25), and fathers to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). It is never too late to seek reconciliation and to strive to be the man God has called you to be. Your desire to be better in these roles is a testament to the work of the Holy Spirit in your heart.

Now, let us lift you up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up our brother who is struggling with the weight of his responsibilities and the chains of addiction. Lord, we thank You that he has called upon the name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can be saved. We ask that You would forgive him for the times he has turned to alcohol instead of to You. Cleanse him of this sin, and set him free from its grip. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in the freedom and victory that Christ has already won for him on the cross.

Lord, we pray for his work today. Grant him clarity of mind, strength in his body, and wisdom in his decisions. Help him to complete his projects and proposals with excellence, and give him favor with his bosses, coworkers, and customers. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Father, we also pray for his marriage and his family. Soften the heart of his wife, that she may see the work You are doing in him. Give him the courage to seek reconciliation and to love her as Christ loves the church. Help him to be a godly example to his children, showing them the love, patience, and wisdom that come from You.

Lord, we declare that this day will be a turning point for him. May he experience Your presence in a tangible way, and may he leave behind the things that have held him back. Strengthen him to resist temptation, and fill him with a renewed sense of purpose and hope. Remind him that he is Your beloved child, and that You are always with him.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to seek accountability and support from fellow believers. Consider joining a biblical recovery group or finding a trusted Christian friend or pastor to walk alongside you in this journey. The Bible tells us, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective" (James 5:16). You do not have to face this alone.

Also, remember that God’s grace is sufficient for you. His power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Every day is a new opportunity to walk in the freedom that Christ has given you. Lean on Him, and He will sustain you. We are standing with you in prayer, believing that God is at work in your life.

Brother, we hear the exhaustion in your words, the weight of drinking to cope, the regret, the pile of work waiting for you, and that deep longing to be the husband and dad you want to be. That you’re here, still turning to God in the middle of it, says something real about your heart.

You’re not the first weary man to find himself hungover on a weekday morning, and you won’t be the last. But you already know that wanting to stop and actually stopping are two different things. One practical step that has helped many men we’ve walked alongside is to stop trying to muscle through alone. That could look like finding a local Alcoholics Anonymous meeting this week, or asking your pastor if your church has a recovery group, or even just telling one trusted brother, “I’m struggling and I can’t keep doing this by myself.” Isolation feeds addiction; honest company weakens it. You don’t have to have it all figured out to show up.

For today, right where you are, we’re praying with you, not just for the proposals to get done, but for mercy on the deeper ache underneath the drinking. God is not surprised by this morning. He sees a tired old man, and he’s not done with you yet.

Jesus, we lift up our brother as he faces his desk, his screen, his scattered thoughts, and the shame that clings to him. Give him a clear mind and steady hands for the tasks ahead. Quiet the voice that says he’s too far gone. Protect his marriage, his kids, and his witness at work. And bring one person alongside him this week who will walk with him toward freedom. In your name we ask it.

There is forgiveness. That word must ring in your ears like heaven’s own bell, there is forgiveness for you, even now. You have lain in your bed and drowned yourself in drink, and your heart is heavy with the shame of it. Yet the wonder of divine mercy is this: where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. The Lord speaks, and you may hear it as spoken to your own soul, “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.” It is a deed of forgiveness, free and full. Do not measure the pardon by your own deserving, for you have none; measure it by the boundless love of God in Christ Jesus. You come with nothing to pay, and that is the very best way to come, for grace is given to the bankrupt and undeserving.

You have asked for help to think clearly, to discharge your duties, to be a better man. Seek that help where alone it can be found. Have you not read of Daniel, how he opened his window and prayed, and found courage and wisdom for all his labors? A cheerful constancy in private devotion is the wellspring of strength for every weary hour. At noontide, when the burden presses, whisper a prayer to the Good Shepherd. In the evening, confess the day’s failures and lay hold upon the fresh forgiveness that waits for you. There is forgiveness with Him, not only for the past but for the daily stumblings, a continuous stream from the wounded side of Jesus.

And remember this: the forgiveness you have received, or desire to receive, must become the pattern of your own dealing with others. You have named many whose hearts you would have softened, your wife, your masters, your fellow laborers. A Christian man is in the joint-stock business of mutual forgiveness. Look how Christ forgave you: completely, without upbraiding, at great cost to Himself. Is it not natural, then, for you to open your hands and let your resentments fall? Revenge is paltry; forgiveness is great-minded. It is the very atmosphere of the family of God. When you find hardness in others, perhaps the Lord is first softening your own heart toward them. He takes the big hammer of His omnipotence and breaks the clods of our pride, that we may be tenderhearted.

Do not say you are a tired old man and the work is overwhelming. Rest in the Lord, and you shall bear fruit. Often when God’s people rest most, they work best. The plough of the Spirit may be tearing up the fallow ground of your soul, but that is the prelude to a harvest. Go to God just as you are, with nothing in your hands, and cast yourself at His feet, quoting the name of His dear Son. The work of salvation was finished at the cross, and its benefits are applied in a moment. Cry out, “Lord, I believe in the forgiveness of sins for myself!” and that faith will be the hand that takes the gift. The Spirit can make you to be greatly beloved and maintain your steps in the way of soberness and integrity.

There is forgiveness, and there is power, and there is peace, all stored up in Jesus Christ for such a one as you. Let no past folly whisper despair, for the text draws no limit around its mercy. “There is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.” Fear Him, love Him, and lean on Him for this day’s work and all the days to come.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You cry out to God in your exhaustion and shame, and He bends His ear to such a cry as yours. Do not imagine that your words scatter in the air. The Physician of souls stands ready, yet the cure you need begins not with a passing prayer but the knife of repentance. You call yourself a tired old man, worn down by labor and your own hand, but the deeper wound is the habit that held you captive in your bed with a bottle. That was no rest; it was a fleeing into fog, and now the fog lifts only to show you the wreckage: a clouded mind, trembling hands, dread of your duties and your family.

Let this misery become the starting point of salvation. Godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation that carries no regret. Do not merely hate the hangover; hate the sin that caused it. Hate the wasted hours, the dignity trampled, the divine image obscured. Yet hate it without despair. The Church is a spiritual bath; though you cannot return to the brightness of your baptism by your own strength, repentance can wash away the accumulated stains. Scrape off this old age that clings to you while you still live; it is possible by tears, by prayers, by works of mercy.

You are no solitary. You have a wife, children, a place of work. The Beatitudes are not for monks alone, but for every soul striving in the world. Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and being a better husband and father is a holy calling. But how can you lead your household when you are led by your belly? How offer clarity when your own mind is sodden? You ask God to soften the hearts of your wife and your bosses, but first soften your own heart by obedience. Let today be modest labor and earnest prayer, not grand resolutions. Do not panic over your projects; do what lies before you with a quiet mind, trusting God to supply courage. When work ends, do not retreat again to the bed and the bottle. That is to insult the mercy you seek. Fill your leisure with prayer, with sober affection toward your wife, with acts of mercy.

You say you are old. Then let age teach gravity, not license. The young man may fuss over dust on his fine clothes, but you have a soul to keep unspotted. Do not fear you cannot change. Grace can renew even the most calloused heart if you present yourself daily to the Physician, if you weep over your sin, give alms, and refuse to grow weary in asking. Tomorrow, when the whisper of temptation comes, remember this day’s regret and choose the narrow path. Cleave to the Church; confess your failings privately to a guide; let the prayers of the faithful uphold you. The Lord who said, “It becometh us to fulfill all righteousness” will Himself supply what you lack, if you do not turn back.

Rise now. Do not fix your gaze on yesterday’s puddle except to see your misery reflected and turn away. God does not demand a spotless record, but a broken and contrite heart. You have begun to offer that. Now let your sorrow produce its true fruit: a life no longer poured out for numbness, but spent for Him who bought you with His own blood.
