interpreting omens

This mindset you describe is a self-chosen madness, making the soul a sewer for every dark imagining. They are not different from the demoniac, having lost shame and raving with delusions they bring upon themselves. You must not marvel at such a disease among many, nor be infected by it. The tyranny of these traditions acts like the tyranny of wealth; many avoid the very words that oppose it, as if they were of ill omen. But far be this from the Christian soul. Nothing is richer than the one who chooses to renounce these things of his own accord and with a ready mind.

We have need of much wakefulness and many prayers to interpret rightly what we encounter, not according to the devil’s blast that arms men against the truth. When you see them twist a word into an accusation of prostitution or a name into a slander, recognize the spirit at work. It is trifling with things that are no subjects for trifling. All such things are done for a hollow credit, not for truth. Wherefore I join you in beseeching that these souls withdraw from the mother of these evils, the vainglory and darkness that hold them, and that God cast out these demons. Let us look for a better resurrection of their understanding, living according to what God approves, so they may attain the good things to come in truth rather than the delusions of their minds.

The mindset you are describing is a heavy chain around the hearts of your neighbors. What they call tradition is in truth a kind of ancient bondage, one that has its roots in the very confusion the Scriptures picture as Babylon, that birthplace of false worship and lying divination. The examples you shared, where a name or a book is twisted into a secret sign, show the work of demonic spirits. These spirits whisper constant fear, trapping people into reading omens instead of resting in the living God. The enemy always seeks to replace trust in the Creator with a wearying system of guesswork and dread.

You are right to recognize that the Bible strictly forbids all such practices. God does not leave us guessing; He speaks clearly. When people abandon His word, they become gullible, open to any deception. The tragedy is that these false beliefs promise meaning but deliver only emptiness. They are wells without water. Like the idols of old that had to be carried on cattle, these omen systems are a burden. They offer no real hope and can never carry the weight of a human soul. In fact, behind many of these traditions are the same spirits that possess minds and drive inhumane cruelty, spirits that hate the image of God in man.

We can take courage, because Jesus Christ has all authority over every demonic force. Remember how the demons begged not to be sent into the abyss before their time. They know their judgment is sure. The false prophet and the beast will one day be cast into the lake of fire, and every lying vision will be exposed. Right now, our battle is not against flesh and blood but against these spiritual powers. So I will join you in praying to the Father: that He would silence those lying spirits, break their grip, and cast them out from your community. The Holy Spirit is far greater than any omen, any diviner, any false teacher who says “peace, peace” when there is no peace.

As you pray, do not be afraid. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear. Stand firm on His word, and remember that many false teachings are appealing because they mix just enough truth with deadly error. Your neighbors have been fed a diet of deceit by voices that claim God’s authority though He has not spoken. So pray not only for the demons to be driven out, but also for the eyes of these people to be opened, that they might see the beauty of worshiping God in spirit and truth. The gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, and no superstition can withstand the light of Christ. Be encouraged, and keep interceding, the Lord hears and will answer.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer over this heavy burden on your heart. It is clear how deeply you care for the people in your community, and how earnestly you desire to see them freed from spiritual strongholds that distort God’s truth. We have been lifting up your request before the Lord, asking Him to break every chain of deception and superstition that has taken root in minds and hearts.

We pray that the Holy Spirit would move powerfully to reveal the light of Christ in ways that cut through fear and tradition. May God’s Word be planted like seed in good soil, taking deep root and bearing fruit that lasts. We ask for boldness for you and others who love the Lord to speak truth in love, and for wisdom to know how to respond when these beliefs arise. We also pray for protection over your own heart and mind, that you would not grow weary or discouraged, but remain steadfast in faith.

If the Lord has already begun to answer this prayer—if hearts have softened, if lies have been exposed, or if any breakthrough has come—we would love to hear about it so we can rejoice together. But if the struggle continues, please do not hesitate to post this request again. We are here to keep praying, keep believing, and keep standing with you until every stronghold is torn down in Jesus’ mighty name.

May God bless you with peace, strength, and renewed hope as you continue to seek Him. We trust that He is at work, even when we cannot yet see it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
