interpreting omens

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I live in an area where people strongly believe in traditions which has to do a lot with interpreting omens. Yes, this kind of mindset that is deeply ingrained in their minds and everday behaviors. For example, if you're buddhists then you're gay because the term buddha and its initials (b and đ) sounds like bê đê which means gay. If you read the Bible then it somehow means buying into prostitution. Now, the Bible strictly forbids interpreting omens and all kinds of divination so please pray to God that He casts out all such demonic spirits from these people.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, recognizing the spiritual darkness that has taken root in the traditions and beliefs of those around you. The interpretation of omens and divination is not merely a cultural practice, it is a direct rebellion against God’s Word and an open door to demonic influence. The Bible is clear: "There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh" (Deuteronomy 18:10-12 WEB). These practices are not harmless superstitions; they are tools of the enemy to ensnare souls and lead them away from the truth of God.

The lies being spread, such as the false association of Buddhism with immorality or the Bible with prostitution, are not coincidental. They are deliberate distortions meant to keep people in bondage. The enemy hates the Word of God because it is the light that exposes his darkness. "For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12 WEB). We must pray that God’s truth would break through these deceptions and that hearts would be opened to receive His Word without distortion.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). We ask You to break the power of these demonic strongholds in this community. Cast out every spirit of divination, sorcery, and deception that has blinded the minds of the people. Let Your light shine in the darkness, Lord, and let Your truth prevail. We pray for those who are trapped in these traditions, that their eyes would be opened to see the lies they have believed and that they would turn to You for salvation. Soften their hearts to receive Your Word, and raise up bold believers to share the gospel with them.

We also pray for protection over those who are standing for truth in this environment. Strengthen them, Lord, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit so they may speak with wisdom and boldness. Guard their minds and hearts from fear or compromise, and let them be a beacon of Your love and truth in this place. We rebuke every lie that has been spoken against Your Word and against those who follow You. Let the truth of Christ set these people free, for "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36 WEB).

We declare that no weapon formed against Your people will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in faith that You will bring revival to this community. May Your name be glorified, and may many come to know You as their Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

It is wearying to live where superstition has such a tight grip on everyday thinking, twisting even innocent words into something sinister. We feel the weight of a spiritual atmosphere that uses fear and distorted connections to keep people from simply opening a Bible or exploring faith. That kind of daily barrage can make you feel isolated, but you are not alone in longing for their freedom, and we join you in that longing.

There is often an anchor beneath these traditions: a genuine but misplaced fear of the unseen, a search for order that has gotten tangled in darkness. The Scriptures do warn against interpreting omens, not because the signs themselves hold power, but because God alone is sovereign, and He calls us to look to Him directly. The web of false meaning you describe is, at its root, a clever deception that keeps people from coming to the light. So your prayer is right on target, asking God to cast out those spirits is asking Him to displace the fear and lies with His truth.

One thing that might help you press on is to remember that you don’t have to dismantle every wrong belief yourself. Your steady, quiet trust in Christ is already a witness. When you refuse to flinch at the superstitions and instead speak plainly about what the Bible actually says, that contrast can rattle the stronghold more than you know. Even a gentle, “That feels like a lie designed to scare us away from something good,” can plant a seed. But mostly, we ask God to intervene.

Let’s hold this together in prayer:

Lord Jesus, we bring before You this community tangled in traditions of interpreting omens. Tear down every lie that masks itself as hidden knowledge. Loose the people from fear and spiritual blindness; set them free to see Your Word as it truly is, a gift of life, not a threat. Strengthen our friend who lives among them, guard them from discouragement, and make them a steady light. We trust in Your power to break every chain. In Your name, Amen.

Yes please also pray that apparently break a leg is supposed to mean good luck but then some nutjobs out there actually tried to break my leg. Please pray for my safety.

There is a bondage under the fear of man, a bondage to the fashions and customs of the world, that holds multitudes in chains thicker than Egyptian darkness. These people you describe are snared by the spirit of bondage again to fear: they tremble at empty sounds, they weave nets of folly from twisted letters and lying whispers, and so they pervert even the holy Word into a cloak for uncleanness. This is the work of the devil, the very demonic sorceries that Scripture condemns with fire. Their minds are darkened, their spirits bent low under a yoke that God never ordained.

Yet take heart, for deliverance is of the Lord. The arrow of the Lord's deliverance must be shot by human instrumentality, and you are called to bend the bow in prayer. Cry aloud to Him who brought Israel out of the iron furnace with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. He has found a ransom; the precious blood of Christ breaks every spell, silences every lying omen, and sets the prisoner free. The clock of mercy struck at Calvary, and the hour of deliverance is ever near for all who call upon that name. Pray with holy violence that the Spirit of Truth would cast down these strongholds of darkness, that the light of the glorious gospel would shine into those regions of gloom.

Do not grow weary or disheartened. The Father of our spirits knows the chains that bind them, and He is not slow to hear. Remember, when the Lamb was slain, Pharaoh’s grip was shattered. So intercede with this assurance: no power of hell, no scheme of superstition, can stand against the breath of the Almighty. He brings forth His captives, and none can stay His hand. Go now, like the seer of old, and shoot the arrow of prevailing prayer toward the east, toward that benighted land, and expect to see the Lord’s deliverance. He will gather a people from among them who shall declare, “The Lord has chastened me sorely, but He has not given me over to death. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” Then shall you be glad, and all who love Christ’s appearing shall rejoice together.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
