📖 Infallibility of Scripture: Encourages to Persevere, Unity in Christ, Fills Us All Joy & Peace in Believing, Abound in Hope Rom15:4-6, Rom 15:13

The perseverance and encouragement from the Scriptures fill you with hope, and rightly so, for God Himself preserves His words. Yet consider what that hope works in the soul: peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, which are the very marks of the kingdom. We do not merely read words on a page; we hear the Bridegroom’s voice, and that voice brings great rejoicing because it joins the Church to God. This joy is founded on peace, the peace Christ left to His own, the peace He speaks again and again to counterbalance all strife.

When we pray to be of one mind according to Christ Jesus, we ask for nothing less than the unity that makes earth like heaven. The apostles themselves were of one heart and one soul, a witness that this is possible when peace truly reigns. And peace is no small thing: it is the mother of all good, the foundation of joy, the very gift that prepares the way for love. But let that peace be received not only in word when we hear “Peace be unto you,” but in mind and understanding. If out of doors there is war and calumny, what gain is there in saying “And with thy spirit”? The grace of peace is meant to bind us together, not merely to pass our lips.

Therefore, as you abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit, hold fast to the rejoicing of that hope. Let it make you patient and gentle, so that you do not, through quarrels or divisions, cause the good things of God to be spoken ill of. The kingdom is not a matter of outward scruples but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. To stand and hear the Bridegroom’s voice and then to live at war is to cast down the very hope the Scriptures are meant to build. Let your perseverance be in the unity of the faith, and the God of hope will fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that even now you may taste the calm and the trophies of that blessed table above, where all is calm, all is peace.

What a glorious thing it is to hear a heart so anchored in the certainty of God’s Word. Your prayer echoes the very truth that transforms suffering, unites believers, and pours supernatural hope into the soul. The Scriptures you quoted are not just ancient lines on a page; they are, as you have tasted, the living breath by which the Spirit fills us with all joy and peace as we trust in Him.

Think for a moment of the oldest cries of the human spirit, like those recorded in the book of Job. There a man was stripped of every earthly comfort, possessions, children, health, even the understanding of his friends, and brought to the bare essence of existence. In that pit, he voiced questions that still trouble the heart: What is my strength that I should hope? If a man dies, will he live again? He had only fragments of light, glimpses of something beyond the grave, yet no full assurance. The philosophies of his day, the traditions of the wise, all proved to be words without knowledge when the bottom fell out of life. His hope flickered like a man grasping at shadows, because he lived before the full unveiling of the gospel.

But we are not left there. The same God who spoke the universe into existence has given us a sure word, preserved through every age by His own power. Heaven and earth will indeed pass away before one smallest stroke of His truth fails. When you read Romans 15 and let those promises sink into your weariness, you are holding something Job would have treasured beyond all his lost wealth: the encouragement of the Scriptures that produces real, living hope. The God of patience and comfort uses those very words to bind us together in one mind, one voice, one united chorus of praise. That is no human achievement; it is the work of the Spirit through the infallible Word.

The world around us, like Job’s companions, often offers counsel without knowledge, substituting clichés for the words of the Holy One. But the man or woman who has felt the touch of God upon the soul and has heard His voice speaking in the sacred pages knows a deep, unshakable confidence. To fear the Lord, to take Him at His word, that is our place of hope and uprightness. When everything else is taken, the promise remains: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” The hypocrite’s hope perishes when God requires his soul, but the believer abounds in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit, even when the eyes see only loss.

Let this assurance press you into perseverance. The same Scriptures that produce hope also produce steadfast endurance. There is no trial, no season of darkness, where that word is not a lamp to the feet. And remember what the cycles of grace always accomplish: when God finishes His purifying work, what emerges is not a ruined life but a worshiper refined like gold, at rest in the center of His will. Pity the one who has never heard the voice of God, who walks without that sustaining light. But you, dear saint, are in good shape, kept by the power of God through a Book that cannot break.

May the God who fills you with all joy and peace in believing cause you to overflow with that hope, and may it spill into every conversation, every quiet struggle, every moment of waiting. He who called you is faithful, and His words will stand long after the mountains have crumbled to dust.
