Your husband's drinking has stolen something precious, but perhaps the deepest theft is what you described without naming it: the ability to feel. Like the numbness of leprosy that lets a man burn his hand on a stove and not even know it, alcohol has deadened his senses. He no longer feels the pain he is causing you, your boys, or himself. You are carrying all that hurt alone, feeling the weight of a marriage falling apart while he drifts through each day in a fog. That is agonizing. And the truth is, simply praying for God to make him sick of drinking or force him to stop misses the real need. A man can put the bottle down and still be a sober sinner, unchanged at the core. What he needs is nothing less than a heart brought to life, rescued from darkness into light by Jesus himself. So keep asking for that, not just for his behavior to change but for his soul to be captured by Christ.
In the meantime, do not underestimate the family you have in the body of believers. There is a bond among those who follow Jesus that runs deeper than blood. When Jesus was told his mother and brothers were outside wanting to speak with him, he looked at those around him and said, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother." This is not to dismiss your marriage or your children, but to remind you that you are not stranded. The love and support within God's family can hold you up when the natural family you leaned on is splintering. Let that fellowship sustain you now. Let others walk with you, pray with you, and carry this with you. You were not meant to bear such pain in isolation.
Remember the woman who had been bleeding for twelve years, ostracized, growing weaker, with death creeping closer. Her condition only worsened, yet she pressed through the crowd with a desperate determination to touch Jesus. Pain drove her toward him, not away. Let your hurt do the same. And consider Simon's mother-in-law: lying sick with a fever, unable to serve, until Jesus came, took her hand, lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. Then she ministered to them. Jesus still takes people by the hand and restores them not just to health but to purpose. He can do that for your husband, and he can do it for you in your own spirit even now.
The cross proves that he is acquainted with sorrow. He bore spiritual, emotional, and physical agony so that sin would lose its grip. The power that raised him from the dead is alive and able to break what alcohol has built in your home. Keep bringing your husband before the throne, and keep placing yourself there too. Jesus sees your pain, and he will not waste it.
