Please I'm financially down. God please lift me out of this pit. Don't allow this shame. Someone I'm owing is disturbing me for his money. Please brethren I need the help of God right now.

We hear the desperation in your cry, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting you up in fervent prayer. Financial struggles can feel like an overwhelming flood, and the weight of debt and shame can make it seem impossible to breathe. But we serve a God who is mighty to save, who reaches down into the deepest pits and lifts us up with His strong right hand. The psalmist declares, "I waited patiently for Yahweh. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand" (Psalm 40:1-2). This is your promise too, God has not forgotten you, and He will not leave you in this place of despair.

First, we must address the burden of debt with wisdom and integrity. Scripture tells us, "The wicked borrow and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously" (Psalm 37:21). If you owe someone money, we encourage you to communicate with them honestly, even if it is difficult. Ask for patience and, if possible, work out a plan to repay what you owe. Dishonesty or avoidance will only deepen the struggle. Proverbs 22:1 reminds us, "A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold." Guard your integrity, for it is worth more than any amount of money.

We also rebuke the spirit of shame that seeks to keep you bound. Shame is not from God, it is a tool of the enemy to isolate you and make you feel unworthy of help. But the Bible says, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). You are not defined by your financial struggles or your mistakes. God’s love for you is not based on your bank account or your circumstances. He sees your heart, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).

Now, let us pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is drowning in financial despair. Lord, You are the God who provides, the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10). We ask that You open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing upon them, that there will not be room enough to receive it (Malachi 3:10). Father, give them wisdom to manage what You entrust to them, and provide opportunities for them to honor their debts with integrity. Break the chains of shame and fear, Lord, and replace them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We declare that this pit is not their final destination. You are making a way where there seems to be no way (Isaiah 43:19). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to trust in You alone. Provide for their needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19), and let them experience Your faithfulness in tangible ways. We rebuke the spirit of lack and poverty in Jesus’ name, and we speak abundance and provision over their life. May they be a testimony of Your goodness and grace, that others may see Your power at work in their life.

We also pray for the creditor who is disturbing them. Soften their heart, Lord, and grant them patience and understanding. Let there be a resolution that honors You and brings peace to both parties.

Father, we thank You that You are working even now, behind the scenes, to lift them out of this pit. We trust in Your timing and Your perfect plan. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to seek godly counsel. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." If possible, connect with a trusted pastor, financial advisor, or mentor who can help you navigate this season with wisdom. Avoid quick fixes or schemes that promise easy money, these often lead to greater bondage. Instead, trust in God’s provision and be diligent in your work. "Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need" (Ephesians 4:28).

Lastly, remember that your worth is not found in your financial status. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and God has a purpose for your life that goes far beyond money. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). You are not alone in this struggle, we stand with you, and more importantly, God stands with you. His grace is sufficient for you, and His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Lean on Him, and He will lift you up.

We hear how heavy this is right now, the weight of what you owe and the strain of someone pressing you for payment on top of it all. That kind of pressure can make it hard to think clearly or rest, let alone trust. We're with you in this.

Financial hardship has a way of wrapping itself around a person's sense of dignity. When the money runs short and someone keeps calling, shame often walks right through the door too, whispering that you're somehow less, that you've failed, that others are looking down. That shame is a wound of its own, separate from the actual dollars and cents, and it doesn't tell the truth about who you are in God's eyes.

Something that sometimes helps in a moment like this is to bring one small part of the chaos into focus: what is the single most urgent pressure point right now? Not the whole mountain, but the one bill, the one creditor, the one payment that carries the most immediate heat. Narrowing the fight down to that one thing can make it feel less like drowning and more like something you can actually face.

Father, we lift our friend to you right now. You see the debt, you see the shame trying to attach itself to their heart, and you see the person who is pursuing payment. We ask for your provision in the finances, open doors for work, for help, for resources in unexpected places. We ask for your peace to guard their mind against panic and against the lie that this difficulty defines them. Give wisdom for the practical next steps, and if there is anyone who can walk alongside and help bring clarity, we ask you to prompt that connection. In Jesus' name.

God’s salvation is no slight thing. When He lifts a soul, He lifts it out of the miry clay and sets it upon a Rock, and that Rock is Christ. Your present trial is deep, but it is not beyond the reach of Him who paid the mighty debt, too huge for us to calculate, all laid upon Him, and He paid it to the last farthing. The shame you dread, He endured the Cross, despising the shame. He took the place of the offender and died, that the debt due to His own justice might be paid. Look there. This is God’s salvation, conceived before you were born, and it is God’s work from first to last. Your temporal distress does not lie outside His hand. He who gave His Son for your soul will not withhold what is needed for your body.

You speak of a pit. Child of God, does the sea roll before you tonight? Are you in extreme distress? David was God’s pupil all his life, he was chastened, but never cast out. God’s ways we cannot guess, and even when we have seen them, we cannot understand them. Yet this is God’s work, and God’s work can stand. The fear that you shall not hold on or hold out is a frequent shadow, but where God begins to work, He does not ask you to finish. That brand taken out of the fire shall be exhibited in Heaven as a proof of what God’s Almighty Grace can do. You need not tell men you love them; make them feel it. Boast not, but be upright. Let your witness be that when you had nothing, you still had a God.

Do not look within for the comfort; you still need the Spirit of God to make the truth light and power to your soul. Cry to Him as the Psalmist did: with your voice do you cry unto God. Expect deliverance from Him. The letter of the Word is good, but the Spirit must drop it as a living seed into the heart. When you have once rightly uttered, “You are my God,” that is the end of all good things. What more does a man need? This is no small matter, to make jewels for Christ’s crown is God’s work and God’s work alone. Yet He stoops to use your present burden to polish a jewel for that crown. Do not despise the school. Do not think the shame can outshout the blood that speaks better things.

If you are beneath the Cross, trustingly looking up to God’s dear Son, you are saved. And He who saved you will carry you through this. Go to the Mercy Seat. Present your need, but bring also your trust. Is not that much better than being afraid, and then having to trust to banish the fear? Trust now. Let the debt-owed man be paid, if you are able, and seek honest help from the brethren, but let your soul’s deepest debt be ever before you, paid, cancelled, nailed to the tree. That is the deliverance which swallows up all temporary deliverances. The Lord lift you out of this pit in His own wise time, for His own glory.

The shame you fear is no shame at all. What is truly shameful is not poverty or debt, but to betray Christ through fear of such things. Do not let the disturbance of a creditor make you think God has abandoned you. He often permits these trials to teach us where our true treasure lies. When the soul is weighed down with the care of money, we are like men dreaming of riches that vanish with the dawn. But if you endure this with boldness, this present distress will become a crown for you.

Remember that God often gives more than we ask. The servant in the parable sought only a delay, but the master forgave the entire debt. So too with you: cast yourself upon His mercy, not merely seeking relief from the man who harasses you, but the remission of that deeper debt of sin which troubles the soul more than any earthly creditor. If He permits you to remain in this trial a while longer, it is so you may learn to make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. That craving for ease, for the appearance of respectability before men, this is what you must prune away. The end of those things is death, but to bear hardship with thanksgiving is life.

Do not think it a great evil to walk with few possessions, as though that were a disgrace. The angels traverse the world needing no attendant. A gentlewoman is not known by a multitude of slaves, but by a soul content with little. Your present poverty, if received rightly, is a tutor leading you closer to that angelic life. Let them disturb you; you have a confidence that in nothing shall you be put to shame, whether in plenty or in want, so long as Christ is magnified in your body.

I hear the desperation in your words, and my heart goes out to you. The pressure of debt and the harassment from someone you owe can feel exactly like drowning. But please, do not imagine that God is some broke manager facing a financial crisis. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He is not limited by your circumstances, and He never needs us to bail Him out. You can pour out your heart to Him, not as if He is reluctant, but as a loving Father who invites you to cast every burden on Him.

When shame whispers that you are beyond help, remember His promise: you will not be put to shame. The world may try to press you down, but God’s restoration will silence that reproach. This present strain is real, but it is light and momentary compared to the eternal weight of glory that lies ahead. I am not dismissing the stress of that person demanding payment. But I urge you to fix your eyes on what is unseen, the reality that nothing can separate you from His love.

Now, let us address the need directly. Our church family is meant to bear one another’s burdens. Paul took up offerings for the struggling saints in Jerusalem, not out of pressure or guilt, but from willing hearts. I will be asking our body to pray and to consider if God leads them to help you practically. But here is the key: God wants no gift given out of compulsion. If anyone gives, it must be because they have purposed in their own heart to do so cheerfully. You will not hear manipulative pleas or emergency letters from me. God does not work through manipulation.

In the meantime, let this trial drive you deeper into His Word. Let it soak into you like rain. The real treasure is not just a cleared debt; it is knowing Christ more intimately. He intercedes for you right now, and He has already paid the ultimate debt you could never pay. The financial pit may be a symptom, but do not miss the deeper work: God is drawing you to rely on His righteousness, not your own resources. True security is never in a paycheck but in His unwavering provision.

Do not let shame silence you. Reach out, both to God and to trusted believers. We are here to pray and walk with you, never to pressure. Let us look together to the One who lifts us from the pit and sets our feet on a rock. The help of God is already on its way, though it may come in unexpected forms. Rest in that, and let your heart be quieted.
