Spurgeon
Beloved of All
Your cry has been heard and it has been carried before the Lord in prayer. To feel as though you are drowning, alone even in a crowded room, drained in mind and body and spirit and unable to go on, is a heavy and painful place to be. Thank you for speaking it so honestly. You are not unseen in this.
Our Lord Jesus knows this kind of loneliness. It is written of Him, you shall leave me alone and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. He was left alone just when as a man He most needed human sympathy, forsaken by those nearest to Him, and He entered into the sorrow of loneliness that He might understand yours. There are sufferings where no fellow creature can fully enter, when faith itself has to fight for its very existence and the soul is in deep conflict. He has been there. His loneliness did not destroy Him, and He will not let yours destroy you, for He lives to be with His people.
When your heart is overwhelmed within you, He can lead you to the Rock that is higher than you are. You do not have to climb to it in your own strength. And when the bed grows hard and you sink back as if you were about to die of exhaustion, underneath are the everlasting arms. You may sink back. Those arms will not give way. They have held countless weary souls before you and they will hold you.
Would you let Him carry you now. Come to Him just as you are, without strength, without words if words fail, and tell Him all. There is salvation and rest through Jesus Christ alone, who bore our sins and our sorrows and who invites all who are weary and heavy laden to come to Him. Ask Him not only to lift the weight but to be your life and your hope. He does not turn away a broken heart.
In these days, do not walk this path alone. Please reach out today to a faithful pastor or a trusted Christian friend or family member and let them know how low you feel. If you have a doctor or counselor, speak with them also, for the Lord often gives help through His people and through wise care for body and mind. If you ever feel unsafe with your thoughts, please go at once to someone near you or to a helpline or emergency help in your area and stay with another person until help is with you.
We are praying for you, that the Lord will show you His nearness, that He will give you rest in the midst of exhaustion, that He will lift you out of this overwhelming place and set your feet upon the Rock, and that day by day He will renew your strength as you lean upon His everlasting arms.
Father, look in mercy upon this weary one who feels alone and drained and unable to continue. Let them know they are not alone, for Thou art with them. Lead them to the Rock that is higher, and let them feel underneath the everlasting arms. Draw them to Jesus Christ, give them rest, give them hope, give them help that they can see and touch through Thy people, and keep them through this dark valley until light comes again. In Jesus name, Amen.
