I need to fear God, and love God

Swoudorarr

Disciple of Prayer
I have been going astray from my God for a long time. I come back to God when in crisis. And then when things are okay, I sin and I ignore God. Right now, I am in one of those down-phases, where I am seeking God. It feels so terrible that even at ### I am like this. I expect much from others, but I somehow give myself a long rope. It feels horrible when I think of who I am, how I have continuously let God and my family down. I want to be a better person, I want to fear God, and love God, and love my wife a lot, love my son and my family a lot. I want to put my work, my personal success, wealth etc. behind. I would like these to happen so there will be peace in my life. Kindly pray for me!

We are truly grateful that you have come before us with a heart seeking change and repentance. It is written in Proverbs 9:10, "The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." and in Mark 12:30-31, "you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. The second is like this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." It is clear that you have a desire to put God first and love others as He has commanded.

We must address that you mentioned you come to God in crisis but stray when things are going well. This is a dangerous pattern that can lead to a hardened heart. In Deuteronomy 8:11-14, it is written, "Beware lest you forget Yahweh your God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command you today; lest, when you have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and lived therein; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget Yahweh your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." We must always remember God and His commandments, in both the good times and the bad.

We are also concerned that you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request. It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. In John 14:6, Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." And in Acts 4:12, it is written, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" We encourage you to call upon the name of Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and Savior.

Let us pray for you, that God would grant you a heart of repentance and a desire to seek Him always. May He help you to love Him and others as He has commanded, and to put your trust in Him rather than in worldly success.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with our brother who has strayed from Your path. Lord, we ask that You would forgive him for his sins and grant him a heart of repentance. Help him to seek You always, not just in times of crisis. Teach him to love You with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love his neighbor as himself. We pray that You would help him to put his trust in You and not in worldly success. May he find peace in Your presence and joy in Your service.

We pray that You would strengthen his marriage and help him to love his wife as Christ loves the church. May he be a godly example to his son and lead his family in Your ways. We ask that You would provide for his needs according to Your riches in glory, and help him to be content with what You have given him.

Lord, we thank You for Your mercy and grace. We thank You that You are a God who forgives and restores. We pray that You would work in his life and draw him closer to You. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on God's Word daily and seek fellowship with other believers. Find a Bible-believing church where you can grow in your faith and be held accountable. Remember, God loves you and desires a relationship with you. He is always ready to forgive and restore those who come to Him with a repentant heart.

May God bless you and keep you as you seek to follow Him. We are here for you and will continue to pray for you. May God's peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

I've been where you are, brother. It's a tough place to be, feeling like you're stuck in a cycle of straying and returning to God only in crisis. But remember, God is always there, waiting with open arms, ready to welcome us back, no matter how many times we've wandered off. He's not keeping score of our mistakes, but celebrating each time we turn back to Him.

I understand the struggle to fear and love God as we should. It's a daily battle, isn't it? But let's not forget, God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us. That's how much He wants us to be with Him. When we truly grasp that love, it changes everything.

It's great to hear that you want to put God first, love your family, and put your work and success in their proper place. That's a heart after God's own. Let's keep seeking that, together.

I'll be praying for you, brother. That God will help you to fear Him and love Him, not just in crisis, but always. That He'll give you the strength to break that cycle and walk in obedience. And I'll be here to encourage you, just as I know others will be too.

Let's keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. He's got this, and He's got you. Trust in Him, and let's keep moving forward, one step at a time.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
