We rejoice with you for this opportunity the Lord has given you to preach the Word of God in the local church and we count it a privilege to stand with you in prayer for this ministry.
We thank God that you desire not just to speak, but to be prepared, anointed, and effective for His glory, and we pray that He will guide every part of your preparation, writing the sermon plan, choosing examples and illustrations, and organizing your thoughts so that all is done with clarity and faithfulness. As it is written, Be diligent to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth 2 Timothy 2:15, and If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We ask the Father to pour out that wisdom upon you liberally as you study and prepare.
We also pray for boldness and the anointing of the Holy Spirit when you stand to preach, that your words would not be with persuasive words of human wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power 1 Corinthians 2:4. We remember the promise, Preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, reprove, rebuke, and exhort with all patience and teaching 2 Timothy 4:2, and we ask that the Lord will grant to you to speak His word with all boldness Acts 4:29. For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword Hebrews 4:12, and it will not return void when preached in the power of the Spirit.
Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne in the mighty Name and Blood of Jesus Christ, thanking You for calling our brother to minister Your Word. We ask You to help him prepare this sermon according to Your will, to give him understanding, order, and utterance. Anoint him with strong anointing, wisdom, and holy boldness, so that this sermon will be maximally effective in achieving Your purposes and bringing forth fruit for Your kingdom. When he stands to preach, inspire him and clothe every word with the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, so that Your will alone will be done. Put Your words in his mouth as You promised, Behold, I have put my words in your mouth Jeremiah 1:9, and let him fulfill this task in the church in such a way as to make Your heart glad and to glorify Your holy Name. We pray that Christ will be exalted, the church will be edified, and the lost will be drawn to salvation through the faithful preaching of the Word. In the Name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

We are grateful you asked us to pray with you as you prepare to preach. It is a meaningful responsibility to open the Word of God for a local church, and we hear your desire to do it faithfully and to make your heavenly Father glad.
Preparing can feel full with so much to hold at once, the outline, the examples, the way to order your thoughts so people can follow. It often helps to keep the main point clear in your own heart first. If you can state in one simple sentence what the Lord is pressing on you to say from the text, the illustrations and structure tend to settle around it. Praying briefly before each block of study, and then again quietly before you stand up, can keep your heart steady and dependent as you work. Reading the passage aloud a few times and practicing the sermon once out loud, and getting good rest the night before, also helps with clarity and calm.
We are standing with you in this ministry and asking God to equip you for it.

Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. Bless me to trust You with all my heart, lean not to my own understanding, acknowledge You in all my ways, and allow You to direct my footsteps and actions. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about. It is a solemn and joyful privilege to be called to stand before the people of God and proclaim His Word, and I rejoice to join you in prayer for this ministry committed to you.
You do well to seek the Lord for all that pertains to this sermon, for preparation is needed and that preparation must be found before we stand to speak. Pray that the Lord who prepares the heart will prepare your thoughts, your plan, your illustrations and the ordering of all things, that every part may be set in order for His glory. Remember that the wisdom of man is rather an impediment than an assistant to the purpose of God, and our sufficiency is not in our gifts or our careful arrangement, but in Him who anoints and sends.
Do not be discouraged if you feel your own weakness as the hour draws near. Weakness and divine anointing may stand together. Every believer is anointed in Christ, and yet the same soul may groan, I am weak. This is no contradiction, for when we are conscious of our infirmity we are best fitted to be clothed with power from on high. He will not fail to carry on the work which He has begun, for why would a wise God anoint His servant and then leave him to labor in his own strength.
Therefore let us come boldly unto the throne of grace, as the apostle exhorts. We have a reason for boldness, for we are invited to pray, and He who sits upon the throne is infinite in wisdom and unlimited in power and willingness to help us, let our requests be as large as they may. Come then with confidence through the blood of Jesus Christ, and ask for that strong anointing, that heavenly wisdom and that holy boldness which you desire.
Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ Thy Son, we entreat Thee to help Thy servant in preparing this sermon, in writing the plan, in finding fit examples and illustrations, and in organizing every thought according to Thy will. Grant unto him a very strong anointing of the Holy Spirit, with wisdom and boldness, that this preaching of Thy Word may be maximally effective to accomplish Thy purposes. When he stands to speak, do Thou inspire him and clothe every word with the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, that all Thy will may be done. Help him to fulfill this task in the church in such a way as shall make glad Thy fatherly heart and glorify Thy holy name. Keep him faithful to the Word, humble in spirit, and dependent upon Christ alone. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we ask it. Amen.
