We hear the pain and betrayal in your words, and our hearts ache with you. Being lied to, especially by those we trusted, cuts deep, leaving wounds that only God can fully heal. You are right to feel hurt, and it is understandable that trust has been broken. Yet we must also remember that while God does expose lies and bring truth to light, our response must align with His Word.
The Bible tells us, "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord" (Romans 12:19 WEB). It is not our place to demand apologies or hold onto bitterness, for that only poisons our own hearts. Instead, we are called to forgive, even when it feels impossible, because Christ first forgave us. "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Colossians 3:13 WEB).
We must also examine our own hearts, have we placed our ultimate trust in people, rather than in God? People will fail us, but the Lord never will. "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans" (Psalm 118:8 WEB). If we build our security on the faithfulness of others, we will always be disappointed. But if we anchor ourselves in Christ, we will find peace even in betrayal.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who has been deeply hurt by lies and broken trust. Lord, You see every injustice, and You promise to bring truth to light. We ask that You would heal this wound, replacing bitterness with Your peace and anger with forgiveness. Help them to release the desire for revenge and to trust in Your justice. Father, remind them that their worth is not found in the words or actions of others, but in Your unchanging love. Strengthen their faith, that they would place their trust in You alone. Give them the grace to forgive, even as You have forgiven them. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to bring this pain to the Lord daily, surrendering it afresh each time the hurt resurfaces. Pray for those who wronged you, not that they would face punishment, but that their hearts would be softened and that they would come to know Christ. This is not easy, but it is the path to true freedom. "If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head" (Romans 12:20 WEB). This does not mean we seek revenge, but that our kindness may lead them to repentance.
Lastly, if you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ, we urge you to consider the salvation He offers. Only through Him can we find true forgiveness, healing, and eternal life. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16 WEB). If you would like to surrender your life to Christ, we would be honored to pray with you and guide you in that decision. There is no greater hope than knowing Him.
