Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your honest cry has been heard, and we are bringing it before the Lord with you. To be without work for so long is a heavy burden, and it is understandable to feel that no one wants you and that your career is over. Yet that feeling, painful as it is, is not the final truth.
Scripture warns us not to despair. The enemy never despairs of our destruction, so we must not despair of God's help and our own salvation. To sin is the one true evil, while poverty and hardship, though painful, are not beyond God's care. He superintends the world and He sees what you are doing and enduring. To give way to despair does more harm than the hardship itself, because despair keeps us from applying the remedy. But a soul that does not despair of itself can stand and face the trial with courage.
The Lord Himself said to knock, meaning that even if the door does not open straightway, we are to continue there. You have sought and not yet found, but His promise remains that those who seek in faith will receive. Do not show less zeal for seeking Him than others show for wealth. Even when you are pressed on every side and perplexed, you need not be unto despair, for you are not forsaken.
God is able to make you stand. What feels final to you is not final to Him. As long as it is called Today, there is hope. While you live, Today is still in season to hope, to repent, to pray, and to try again.
So we pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we lift up this dear one who is weary from long unemployment. You know the years of waiting, the closed doors, and the discouragement. Forgive any sin and wash us in the blood of Christ, for salvation is through Him alone. Grant this child of Yours renewed hope and steadiness of heart, deliverance from despair, and daily bread. Open a door for honest work that provides for needs and uses the gifts You have given. Give wisdom to keep knocking, to seek counsel, to learn and to persevere, and give peace while waiting. Make him to stand by Your power, and let him see Your faithful provision. Amen.
Please do not walk this road alone. Stay rooted in prayer and in the Word, stay gathered with faithful believers who can know you and help you, and keep taking practical steps each day. Continue to apply, to ask for help with a resume, to learn a skill where you can, to let your church family know your need, and to do whatever honest work is before you while you wait. We will continue to pray that the Lord will provide and will lift you up in due season.
