I cannot get a job

Beloved of All
Dear lord I cannot get a job I have been unemployed for ### years and no one wants to hire me My career is over Amen

We have heard your cry and we join with you in bringing this heavy burden before our Father. To be unemployed for so long and to feel unwanted and that your career is over is deeply discouraging, and we want you to know we are standing with you in prayer and we do not agree that your story is over. Our God is a God of hope and restoration, and while doors may have been closed by men, He is able to open doors that no one can shut.

We want to gently encourage you that God has not forgotten you or abandoned you in this season of waiting. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. And Philippians 4:19 reminds us, My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Even when we cannot see the way forward, He is still our provider and He sees your diligence and your need. We also hear the hopelessness in the words my career is over, and we lovingly rebuke that spirit of despair over your life. As long as God gives breath, your purpose is not finished. Romans 8:28 tells us, We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. He can redeem even these difficult years and use them for good.

We also noticed you addressed your prayer to Lord but did not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to come to God in the name of Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for in His name our prayers are heard and our salvation is secured.

We pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You know the length of this unemployment, the many applications and rejections, and the weariness that has settled in. Lord, we ask You to forgive any doubt and to renew hope and strength. Open the right door of employment that aligns with Your will, provide for every daily need, and restore dignity and purpose. Give wisdom to steward skills well and to seek You first, as Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Help our friend to work heartily as for You, for Colossians 3:23 says, Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Guide steps to new training, connections, and opportunities, and let Your favor go before each interview and application. Comfort this heart with Your presence and remind this one that You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble from Psalm 46:1. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and provider, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking Him daily in prayer and in His Word, to remain diligent and willing to do whatever honest work He provides while you wait, and to ask Him to show you if He is leading you to learn a new skill or direction. Do not isolate yourself but reach out to trusted believers and community for support and for networking. God is faithful, and He has not forgotten the work of your hands.

We hear how heavy these last years have been, sending out applications and hearing nothing back. When you have wanted to work for so long and doors keep closing, it makes sense you would feel discouraged and wonder if your career is over. You are not forgotten to us and you are not forgotten to God, and we are praying for you.

Long unemployment can wear on more than finances. It can shake how you see yourself and your place. It helps to not carry that alone. If you have one trusted person, a former coworker, pastor, or friend who knows your work, consider asking them to sit with you for an hour to talk honestly about your strengths, the kinds of work you have enjoyed most, and what others have valued in you. Sometimes another set of eyes can see skills and possibilities that are hard to see when you are tired.

A practical next step many find useful is to connect with a local workforce center, community college career office, or a church with employment help for a resume review and to learn what kinds of openings fit your experience now. They can also help you practice interviewing and explore nearby roles you may not have considered, including short term or different work that could open a next door.

Father, we lift this dear one to You who sees their need to provide and to use their gifts. Give wisdom for each next step, encouragement when it feels long, and gracious people to walk alongside. Provide for daily needs and guide toward work that is good and fitting. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your weariness in the length of your way has been heard, and we bring your burden before the Lord who hears prayer. To be unemployed for years and to feel that no door will open and that your career is over is a heavy trial indeed, and the heart is tempted to say, There is no hope.

Yet the Scripture gives us a better word. In all his losses and sorrows, Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. He kept right with God when all was taken from him, and he made his approach unto the Lord in childlike confidence even when He seemed to frown. Your case is very sad, but it is not a strange one, and there is hope for you. The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends, and so our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. Hope yet, for there is hope. Trust still, for there is ground of confidence.

There is no hope for you in yourself, but there is hope for you in Him whom God has provided to be the Savior of such as you. If you look for a reason in yourself why God should provide for you, you will find none, but if you look to His sovereign grace and mercy in Christ, then there is hope. He who upheld Job can support you, and He can anoint you with fresh oil. Job thought his glory was gone and his freshness had departed, yet the Lord at the last gave him twice as much as he had before, to show that He is able to restore and to renew.

We pray for you now that the Lord would lift from you the heaviness of this long waiting, that He would keep you from unbelieving speeches and give you patience as Job had patience, and that He would open a door of honest labor for you in His providence. May He turn your mourning into dancing in His own time, and may you find that even in this captivity He is near to them that call upon Him. Search the Scriptures, for they testify of Christ, and bring everything you hear and feel to that great test, and let your prayer be cast upon the promise with hope, for your weakness shall not make it miscarry.

We ask the Lord to provide for your daily bread, to give you favor with those who have the power to hire, to keep you diligent and of good courage, and above all to give you a good hope of eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ, that whether work comes soon or late, you may know that you are not without God and not without hope. May He sustain you day by day and anoint your head with fresh oil, and may you yet say, He has turned my captivity.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
