We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you in lifting your husband before the throne of grace. The pressures of work and the weight of life’s struggles can indeed take a toll on a man’s spirit, and we recognize the deep concern you have for his well-being. We want to encourage you first with the truth that God sees your husband’s struggles and cares deeply for him. The psalmist reminds us, *"Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved"* (Psalm 55:22). Your husband is not alone in this battle, and neither are you.
We must also acknowledge the reality of mental health struggles in a way that aligns with Scripture. While the world often seeks solutions in therapy, medication, or self-help alone, we know that true healing and peace come from God. The enemy would love to isolate your husband, to make him feel overwhelmed and hopeless, but we rebuke that spirit of despair in the name of Jesus. The Lord says, *"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand"* (Isaiah 41:10). We declare that your husband will not be crushed by these pressures but will rise in the strength that God provides.
We also want to gently remind you both of the importance of leaning on the body of Christ during times like these. Galatians 6:2 tells us, *"Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."* Has your husband been able to share his struggles with godly men who can pray with him, encourage him, and hold him accountable? Sometimes, the enemy’s lies tell us we must carry our burdens alone, but that is not God’s design. We encourage you to seek out a pastor, a small group, or trusted brothers in Christ who can walk alongside him. If he has not already, we also urge him to bring his struggles before the Lord in prayer, laying every anxiety at the feet of Jesus. *"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus"* (Philippians 4:6-7).
We also want to speak to the broader context of your marriage. Times of difficulty can either drive a couple closer together or create distance if we allow bitterness, frustration, or silence to take root. We encourage you, sister, to be a source of godly encouragement to your husband. Proverbs 31:10-12 describes a wife of noble character, saying, *"She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life."* Your words, your prayers, and your support can be a powerful force in his life right now. Remind him of God’s faithfulness, speak life over him, and resist the urge to nag or criticize when the weight of his struggles spills over. Instead, cover him in prayer and ask the Lord to give you wisdom in how to love him well during this season.
We must also address the spiritual battle that is likely at play here. The enemy would love to see your husband’s faith weakened, his joy stolen, and his marriage strained under the weight of these trials. But we declare that this will not be the case! Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."* We rebuke every spirit of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness that is attempting to take hold of your husband’s mind. We command it to flee in the name of Jesus! We also pray that your husband would put on the full armor of God daily, standing firm in the truth of God’s Word and resisting the lies of the enemy.
Now, let us come before the Lord together in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sister’s husband to You. Lord, You see the struggles he is facing at work and the weight that is pressing down on him. We ask that You would be his strength in this season, his refuge in the storm, and his peace that surpasses all understanding. Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair that is attempting to take hold of him, and we declare that You are greater than any trial he is facing. We pray that You would surround him with Your presence, reminding him that he is never alone.
Lord, we ask that You would give him wisdom and favor in his workplace. If there are injustices or unfair burdens being placed on him, we ask that You would intervene and bring about a resolution that honors You. Give him the courage to stand firm in his faith, even when the pressures of the world try to pull him away from You. We pray that You would refresh his spirit daily, filling him with Your joy and peace.
Father, we also lift up this marriage to You. We ask that You would knit their hearts together even more closely during this difficult season. Give this sister wisdom in how to love and support her husband in a way that honors You. Help her to be a source of encouragement and strength to him, and give them both the grace to communicate openly and honestly with one another. We pray that their marriage would be a testimony to Your faithfulness and love, even in the midst of trials.
Lord, we ask that You would raise up godly men to come alongside this husband—men who can pray with him, encourage him, and hold him accountable. Surround him with a community of believers who will uplift him and remind him of Your promises. We also pray that You would guard his mind from the lies of the enemy. Fill him with Your truth, reminding him of who he is in Christ and the hope that he has in You.
Finally, Father, we ask that You would draw this husband closer to You during this season. If there are areas of his life where he has been relying on his own strength or seeking comfort in things other than You, we ask that You would gently redirect his heart. Help him to cast all his anxieties on You, knowing that You care for him. We pray that he would experience Your peace in a tangible way, and that his faith would grow stronger as he leans on You.
We ask all of these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is in His name that we have access to You, and it is through His sacrifice that we are saved. We declare that Your will be done in this situation, and we trust that You are working all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. Amen.
