How to pull myself out of my misery

Yes, Christ can salvage your situation, but not in the way we often expect. The help does not come by finally proving yourself through harder work or by earning a successful life to measure up to others. Scripture teaches that a person is not made right with God by works, but by faith in Jesus Christ. When you put your trust in Him, God no longer sees you on your own record. He sees you in Christ, and He counts to you the righteousness of Christ. That is how you can be forgiven completely, seen as holy and blameless and without reproach before Him, not because of your effort or sacrifice but through simple faith in what Jesus has done. That standing is complete in Christ.

That also means a new center for life. The old life that was centered on self, with self on the throne trying to please self, dies with Christ. The Bible describes it as being crucified with Christ, so that it is no longer you alone living, but Christ living in you. You do not have to live by trusting yourself, which you already know is failing you. You live by faith in the Son of God who loved you and gave Himself for you. When Christ who is our life becomes the center, the aim changes from seeking your own success or glory to seeking to please Him. That change is not just words, it is the reality of a new life.

You are not abandoned in this. There is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, and through His blood you have bold access to God. You were once far off, but you have been brought near. God is faithful, and He has called you into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. His love is not only a doctrine to know about, but a love to know by experience. In Christ are unsearchable riches, the depth of His wisdom and grace, and every blessing of God is given to you in and through Him. In Him you are enriched and made complete, and you are brought into one body where all barriers are broken down and we are all one in Christ Jesus, heirs together according to promise.

The law and even your own conscience have done their work like a schoolmaster, showing you how far you have fallen short of what God requires. That is meant to lead you to Christ, so that you might be made a child of God by faith in Him. Once you are in Christ, you are not under that condemnation.

How do you walk out of the ditch in Him. First, come to Jesus Christ alone for salvation. Turn from self direction and sin, confess your need, and believe that His death and resurrection are enough to pardon you fully. Receive His grace. Second, let Him be enthroned in your daily life. Yield your body to Him as a member of Christ, to be used for His purposes, desiring that Christ be glorified in your body whether by life or by daily choices. That is walking in love as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. Third, walk in small faithful steps rather than waiting for a sudden breakthrough. As Christ lives in you, He gives strength to do the next right thing. Be faithful in little things, seek His help for diligence where there has been sloth, for courage where there has been shyness, and for discipline where there have been inhibitions. God is faithful to complete the work He begins as He brings you to maturity in Christ.

Your worth is not measured against your siblings. In Christ your identity is not in family order or economic independence, but in being His. He does not despise your weakness, and He is not distant. Come to Him today just as you are, ask Him to be your life and your strength, and keep coming to Him each day. He offers total forgiveness, a new heart, and the power to live a new way, one step at a time in fellowship with Him.
