Homeless

Your prayer has been heard and your pain is not hidden from God. To be without a home and without money, to feel you must beg and plead with all your heart, is a heavy and desperate place to be, and God sees you in it and cares about you.

The most important provision God has made is for your deepest need, which is greater than any financial need. Scripture teaches that God has made only one way for sin and guilt to be taken away, and that is through His Son Jesus Christ. He alone is the provision for forgiveness and for coming into a right relationship with God. The Holy Spirit bears witness to this truth in the heart, that if we turn to Jesus in faith and trust Him, we can know forgiveness and new life. Whatever else you are seeking from God, I pray first that you would know this provision and the peace that comes from belonging to Him.

God also shows in His Word that He leaves room for Himself to work even when a situation looks impossible. In the old law there was a disease that had no human cure, yet God still gave instructions for what should happen on the day a person was cleansed. He made a way for cleansing to be recognized. In that He was showing that we should never put Him in a box or say He cannot act. If He desires to heal or to provide, He has the power to do so. So bring your need for shelter and daily provision to Him honestly and ask Him to work in the ways that only He can.

The Bible also teaches practical principles about provision. It warns that being slack or idle in the duties before us tends toward poverty, while diligence tends toward life and increase. It teaches a spiritual principle about generosity, that those who scatter and give freely often increase, while those who hold back tightly can move toward lack, and that a generous soul is refreshed and one who waters others will himself be watered. The prophet Haggai rebuked people who earned money but never had enough because they had not put God first, and he called them to honor God with the first of what they had. And there is the picture of a city where God had provided more than enough food outside the walls, while inside people were still starving because they had not yet received what was provided. These truths do not mean that God will fill a bank account in a sudden and magical way, but they do mean that He honors trust, diligence, and a heart that puts Him first and is willing to both receive help and be a channel of kindness to others when able.

I am praying for you now that God would meet you in your homelessness and need. I ask Him to provide for your daily bread, for a safe place to sleep, for wisdom and favor as you deal with the agencies that oversee assistance, and for people nearby who can help you with practical steps, shelter, food, and counsel. I ask Him to give you strength to be diligent with the opportunities He opens, to guide your steps, and to fill your heart with His peace and hope through Jesus. If you do not yet know Him as Savior, look to Jesus in faith today and call upon Him, for He became poor so that through His poverty you might become rich toward God.

You are not forgotten. Keep seeking the Lord, keep asking for His help each day, and reach out to local help and caring people around you as God often provides through the hands of others. May the Lord show you His provision, both for your soul and for your daily needs, and draw you close to Himself.
