It is a blessed thing when souls pant after the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation, for this is not the natural hunger of the flesh but the work of Grace stirring within. Yet remember, the power to know the hope of His calling and the riches of His inheritance never comes apart from deep, abiding trust in the God who raised Christ from the dead. You ask for enlightenment, and rightly so, but take care that you do not seek it as a mere intellectual ascent, like those who would compass the heavens with a span. The expanse of Divine Truth is vast, and no man can fully comprehend it, but the Lord grants understanding to the humble who trust in Him.
Christ Himself is the power of God and the wisdom of God, in His complex person, Creator and Redeemer, the One who calmed the seas and broke the bonds of death, the Lamb who was slain and now reigns upon the Throne. To handle matters wisely, you must trust in the Lord, for this is the very clue to every labyrinth and the lever that lifts the heaviest weights. Far too many are wearied in the length of their way, finding only the life of their own hand, yet never crying out, "There is no hope in these things." That false hope must die, for self-righteousness, whether in pride or despair, will leave you perishing outside the finished work of Christ. He is the Lamb, the little Lamb, toward whom all tenderness and love should flow, but He is also the omnipotent Lord, to whom every knee shall bow.
The inheritance is before you: arise and cross over the Jordan of indecision and fear. Every place the sole of your foot treads in the promises, by faith, is given to you. But you must move, take possession, and not linger in the wilderness of dull hearing and cold affections. Do you remember those early days when the Word was marrow and fatness, when you could not get enough of preaching and prayer, when victory over sin seemed sure and your soul trod down strength?
The truth of God has not changed, nor has the kitchen lost its provision, the fault lies in a fading appetite. Pray not only for revelation but for a renewed hunger, for the doing of the Word, not the knowing only. Blessedness belongs to those who hear and obey, not to the negligent hearers who let the sound glide over their ears while their hearts ponder their merchandise. This is a true saying of God: the Lord God Omnipotent reigns, and Christ shall have His full reward.
Do not tremble for the Ark, but let your faith lay hold upon the exceeding greatness of that power which raised the Savior and set Him above all principality. That same power works for the Church, His body, and is yours by the Spirit, not to be trifled with, but to be wielded in prayer and holy living. Shake off every hope that is no hope, every confidence in the flesh, and cling to the Throne of God and of the Lamb. There is a marriage supper preparing for all who are espoused to Christ by faith; let your soul be made ready, and let your life now be a taking up of the purchased possession, that you may walk in the full assurance of understanding, to the praise of His glory.
