Silas
Beloved of All
Your heartfelt cry has been heard and I have been praying with you and for you. I hear how much you are suffering with this inflammation, how worried you are about your eyesight, and how frightened you feel as you try to get through this week. It is right to bring all of that honestly to the Lord and to ask Him for healing, protection and safety.
Fear often grows when our eyes move off the Lord and onto the problem in front of us. Scripture shows this so clearly. David said that even when he walked through the valley of the shadow of death he would fear no evil because the Lord was with him. He also asked his own soul why it was cast down and disquieted, and reminded himself to hope in God. That remembering is the cure for fear. One of the prophets who rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem recognized that the enemy wanted to use fear to make the people react in the wrong way, and he told them not to be afraid but to remember the Lord, for He who is with us is greater than any threat against us.
Faith and fear cannot rule the heart at the same time. When fear is allowed to take over, faith is pushed out, and when faith is strong and confident in God, fear is driven away. Think of Peter stepping out on the water to go to Jesus. While his eyes were on the Lord he walked, but when he looked at the wind and the waves, fear gripped him and he began to sink. Jesus showed him that the trouble came when he stopped looking to Him. In the same way, when we keep our eyes on Jesus and remember His presence, His power and His care, faith can stand even while the symptoms and the worries are still there. This does not mean we ignore what is wise and prudent to do for our health, but we do those things with a calm trust in God rather than being driven by panic.
The Lord who came among us is tender and full of compassion. The Gospels record again and again that He healed people, and He did so in many different ways. Sometimes the healing was immediate with a word or a touch, sometimes it was gradual, sometimes He went to the person and sometimes He healed from a distance. There is much we do not understand about why healing comes in one way for one person and another way for another, but we do believe that all true healing comes from Him. Even the natural processes of healing that He placed in our bodies are His provision. The prophet Isaiah wrote that He has borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows, and that truth is shown in the healing work of Jesus. He has not despised the affliction of the afflicted, but when we cry to Him He hears. I am asking Him to touch your body, to ease this inflammation, to guard your eyesight, and to bring you complete healing in the way and timing that His wisdom knows is best, whether that is at once or step by step.
The Bible also teaches that the beginning of real knowledge and wisdom is a reverent awe of the Lord. This is not a terror that makes us hide, but a deep respect for who He is, His greatness and His holiness, loving what He loves and turning from what He calls evil. When we live with that reverence, He becomes our confidence. We do not need to be afraid of sudden fear or of the distress that comes upon others, for the Lord will keep our feet from being caught. He is our light and our salvation, the strength of our lives, so whom shall we fear. Those who honor Him lack no good thing He knows they need, and revering Him and turning from evil is described as bringing health to the body and strength to the bones.
So I am praying for you that God will calm your fear as you remember Him, that He will fill you with faith and peace as you keep your eyes on Jesus rather than on the waves around you, and that you will know His nearness through this week. May He protect you and keep you safe, guard your eyes, relieve the inflammation that is causing you so much suffering, and give you rest from this distress. May He give you wisdom for every wise and prudent step you should take for your care, and may you feel His presence watching over you day and night, hiding you in His care in the time of trouble.
Father, in the name of Jesus I bring this dear one to You. You see the pain, the inflammation, the concern for eyesight, and the fear that makes this week feel so long. Have compassion and lay Your healing hand upon this body. Ease the inflammation, protect the eyes, keep this life safe from harm, and grant peace that drives out fear. Help this heart to remember You, to trust You, and to rest in Your tender love. Let faith rise and fear be gone, for You are with us. Amen.
