Disciple of Prayer
Prayers for my sister, who is sick and having financial troubles, and my son, who is not searching for work. Please intervene to help with her finances and health, either to cure her or to find the right doctors to help her. Help her son open his eyes and help her to see that he needs to help and get whatever job is available.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your sister and your son to our Heavenly Father. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God, and it is in His mighty name that we pray. Jesus said, "Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you" (John 16:23 WEB). We stand on this promise as we intercede for your family.

Father God, we first lift up this dear sister who is battling sickness and financial hardship. Lord, You are the Great Physician, and we ask for Your healing touch to be upon her. Whether it is through a miraculous healing or guiding her to the right doctors and treatments, we trust in Your perfect will. "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven" (James 5:14-15 WEB). We pray for her complete restoration, both in body and spirit.

Lord, we also bring her financial struggles before You. You are Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, and we ask that You open doors of opportunity and provision for her. Help her to find the resources she needs to meet her obligations and to trust in You for her daily bread. "But my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19 WEB). Give her wisdom in managing what she has and faith to believe that You will not abandon her.

Father, we also lift up her son, who is not seeking work. Lord, we ask that You open his eyes to the responsibility he has to provide for himself and to contribute to his family. "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: 'If anyone will not work, neither let him eat'" (2 Thessalonians 3:10 WEB). Convict his heart, Lord, and stir within him a desire to be productive and to honor You with his labor. Help him to see that any honest work is a blessing and a way to serve You. Give him the motivation to seek employment diligently, even if it is not his ideal job. "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might" (Ecclesiastes 9:10 WEB).

We rebuke any spirit of laziness, entitlement, or complacency that may be hindering him. We declare that he is created for good works, which You prepared beforehand for him to walk in (Ephesians 2:10 WEB). Father, give him favor as he seeks employment, and provide opportunities that will meet his needs and help him grow in responsibility and character.

Lord, we also pray for this sister’s heart as she watches her son struggle. Give her the wisdom to speak truth in love and the strength to set boundaries if necessary. Help her to trust You with her son, even as she encourages him to step into maturity. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6 WEB). Even now, Lord, we ask that You draw him back to the path of righteousness and responsibility.

Father, we pray for unity and peace in this family. Let Your love bind them together, and let Your grace be sufficient for each of them in their struggles. Help them to lean on You and on one another, rather than growing weary or resentful. "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:2 WEB).

We declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17 WEB), and we stand in faith, believing that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28 WEB). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to fix their eyes on You, the Author and Finisher of their faith (Hebrews 12:2 WEB).

In the precious name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We hear the weight in what you’ve shared, carrying concern for your sister’s health and finances while also worrying about your son is a lot to hold at once. When an illness drags on, it gnaws at more than just the body; it drains emotional reserves and can make the simplest forward movement feel impossible. Your sister may be in exactly that place, where just surviving the day uses up everything she has. That doesn’t mean she’s given up, but she likely needs someone beside her who simply stays steady, offering to sit with her while she calls a doctor’s office, helping her organize a few bills, or just being a presence that doesn’t demand her to be better. That kind of quiet companionship often matters more than we know.

With your son, the lack of job-searching can feel like he’s ignoring reality, but he may be stuck in a place where he can’t yet see a way forward. Pressure to “take anything” sometimes hardens that stuckness if he’s wrestling with shame or fear of failure. A small but significant step might be to set aside all the urgent talk about jobs and ask him, gently, what he’s actually afraid of or what kind of life he hopes for. Don’t fix or lecture, just listen. It can lower his guard enough to begin moving.

We’re praying with you for both of them now.

Lord Jesus, you see this sister: her body tired, her finances stretched, her heart weary. Please guide her to the right medical help and give her the strength for small, manageable steps. Surround her with relief and practical support. For her son, untangle whatever holds him back and open a door to work that gives him dignity. Grant this family your peace in the waiting and the grace to lean on you together. In your name we pray, amen.

The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue. Bring your sister’s sickness and your son’s sloth to this great Physician, for healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy, He said, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” Pardon and healing were one. The Lord has begun to heal us, and the healing virtue which His grace has infused into us will work us health and cure. Seek this double cure for her body and her soul, and for his wandering heart.

Yet the healing power is conspicuously present when Christ is teaching. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Let your sister be brought in prayer to the place where He speaks, for in His presence healing waits. And for her son, consider: you will not have Christ because you are whole, and have no need of a physician. He may not feel his sickness, but his idle hands betray a deeper palsy of the spirit. Pray that the Lord would break this false peace, for a real saving work is the work of God, and God alone. A broken heart will cry out for the balm that only Calvary supplies.

There is healing for you, and I warn you that you must have this healing before you can work for Jesus. Your Lord must begin with you before you can begin with Him. The desire to minister always arises out of healing. When Christ takes a soul by the hand and lifts it up, then the fever of selfishness leaves, and the healed one rises to serve. In the family, do all for the Lord Jesus Christ, those commonplace things, sweeten and flavor them with love for Him. Let this son be sobered by divine grace and get a new heart, and that would be blessed hearing, blessed for the family, for the mother, for the household! Cry to the Lord that He would touch him, lift him, and send him into the fields of honest labor, not as a drudge, but as a servant of Christ.

As for the financial troubles, the very leaves are healing. The little things about Christ, the common providences, are brimful of restorative power. He who feeds the ravens and clothes the lilies will not forsake His own. The Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings for body, soul, and state. Lay all these burdens on Him who heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. Welcome to pardon and healing through our Lord Jesus. God bless you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You bring before God a sister weighed down by sickness and poverty, and a son whose hands refuse to labor. This is indeed a trial that pierces the soul. But consider this: the Lord permitted the holy apostles to be fishermen, mending their broken nets in extreme poverty, before He called them to be fishers of men. He does not despise the low estate of those who love Him, but in the fullness of time, when human aid fails utterly, He devises His gracious dispensation. Pray then for your sister’s healing and provision, but also plead that her soul may not grow dull with despair. For God often permits these afflictions so that we might cling to Him alone, and not to the things we account precious.

Now, concerning her son who does not search for work. The blessed Apostle Paul commands plainly, “If any man will not work, neither let him eat.” This is a sharp medicine, but a wholesome one. For idleness is the teacher of every vice, and a man who will not labor for bread will soon open his ears to satanic songs and his hands to shameful deeds. You must not flatter his sloth, nor be rough beyond measure, but make up one wholesome result. Tell him plainly that he who is able-bodied yet refuses to lay hold of even the meanest job acts as a destroyer of his own house, shutting the kingdom of virtue against himself by his refusal of this simple duty. The duty is not for his belly alone, but for his soul. Idleness makes a man an easy prey for the evil one.

Yet take care, you who intercede, lest you fall into the sin of hard judgment. There are those who see a man in rags, looking toward heaven, and at once cry, “Impostor!” Give nothing, and accuse the man. But is no one poor from illness? None from disasters? If your sister’s son is ensnared by sloth, pray that his eyes be opened, yes, but do not let your own heart become weary in well-doing. The flame of zeal must not be quenched the moment you rise from prayer. The remedy for a household full of anxiety is not more anxious striving, but to take the Bible into your hands, call your sister and her son, and learn to sing psalms together. For they who sing psalms are filled with the Holy Spirit; drunkenness and despair and greed are cast out, and Christ enters in with His healing presence. Bring your household business into order, but do not let it be your god.

If the young man will not hear you, and you are reproached as rough, bear it with patience for his correction. But do not grow slothful in this sacred task, as though it were a matter for the future only. The peril is present. Do not tarry a little time here in prayer and then plunge into the world’s noise, forgetting what has been spoken. Press on in intercession, give alms according to your ability without wearying, and trust the Physician of souls. The One who called fishermen from mending their broken nets can call this young man from his broken will, and for your sister, He will either grant a swift cure or raise up the right doctors. Stand firm, and do not let your prayers become dull.
