Help with finances

Thank you Jesus for all the miracles you have done in my life thus far. You are good and you are always bigger. My husband lost his job in April and our severance is almost up. My daughter tore her ACL recently and is needing surgery. We have bills and big financial responsibilities and my husband has yet to find another job. He is diligently seeking and working on other responsibilities. I have applied to many jobs and felt impressed each time to say no, or maybe the impression is not yet I’m not sure. There are days where we feel optimistic and days where we are worn down. God I need help. We need help please heal our finances. I know you can guide and direct us please. In Jesus name

We come before the throne of grace with hearts full of faith, lifting up this precious family to our Heavenly Father. Your acknowledgment of Jesus and His mighty works in your life is a beautiful testament to His faithfulness, and we join you in praising Him for all He has already done. The Word reminds us in Philippians 4:19, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We stand on this promise together, believing that God sees your needs and will provide in ways that glorify Him.

Father, we lift up this husband who has lost his job and is diligently seeking new employment. Lord, You know the desires of his heart and the skills You have placed within him. We ask that You open doors that no man can shut and guide him to the right opportunity. Give him wisdom in interviews, favor with potential employers, and peace in the waiting. Remind him daily of Your words in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." Strengthen his resolve and fill him with hope as he trusts in You.

We also lift up this dear daughter who is facing surgery. Lord, we ask for Your healing hand to be upon her. Comfort her in her pain and give her peace as she prepares for this procedure. Guide the hands of the surgeons and medical staff, and grant her a full and speedy recovery. We declare Your promise from Psalm 147:3, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds." Father, we trust in Your healing power and ask that You restore her strength and health.

Father, we bring before You the financial burdens this family is carrying. The weight of bills and responsibilities can feel overwhelming, but we know that You are bigger than any challenge they face. We ask that You provide for their needs in ways that only You can. Give them wisdom in managing what they have and discernment in making financial decisions. Remind them of Your provision in the past and strengthen their faith as they wait on You now. We declare over them the truth of Matthew 6:31-33, "Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."

Lord, we also ask that You speak clearly to this wife as she seeks employment. If You have impressed upon her heart to wait, give her the patience and trust to follow Your leading. If there are opportunities she has yet to see, open her eyes to them. Remind her of Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Let her feel Your peace as she seeks Your will in this season.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear and anxiety that seeks to creep into their hearts. We declare that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18) and that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) and remind them that You are their provider, their healer, and their strength.

We pray for unity in this marriage as they navigate this challenging season. Let them lean on one another and on You, drawing closer together as they trust in Your provision. Remind them of Ecclesiastes 4:12, "A triple-braided cord is not quickly broken." Let their marriage be a testimony of Your faithfulness and love.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the miracles You have already performed in their lives and for the ones yet to come. We trust in Your timing and Your perfect plan. Strengthen their faith, fill them with hope, and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Provider. Amen.

We have been sitting with your request this week and praying alongside you. It is so clear how deeply you love your family and how faithfully you are both seeking the Lord in this. That you are still praising Jesus after months of uncertainty says something real about your trust in Him, and we see it. At the same time, we know how wearing it is to ride those waves of optimism and exhaustion, especially when the bills don’t pause and your daughter’s surgery looms.

One thing we want to gently offer: when you have sensed “no” or “not yet” with the jobs you have applied for, it is possible that the Lord is giving you genuine caution, but it might also be that you are so weary and anxious that you are needing help discerning His voice clearly. We would encourage you to bring those specific impressions to a trusted pastor or mature Christian friend who can pray through them with you and ask good questions. Sometimes God guides us through the wise counsel of others, not just inner promptings alone. And in the meantime, would it help to shift your prayers from “Is this the right job?” to “Lord, give me Your peace as I take this next step, and close the door if it’s wrong”? That small shift can lighten the weight of having to get it exactly right while you act.

For your husband’s search, we are praying for open doors, and for your daughter, we ask for provision and a smooth surgery. We also wonder if there is a practical step you could take this week, like reaching out to your church’s deacon fund or a benevolence ministry, not as a permanent solution but as a way to receive a little breathing room while you wait for God’s provision. Sometimes the help we need comes through the hands of others in the body.

Let us pray together now:

Lord Jesus, we come with this family who trusts You but is worn down. Sustain their hope and steady their hearts. Grant this husband favor with prospective employers and lead him to the work You have prepared. Give his wife clear, peaceful direction and surround her with wise, loving counsel. We ask for the resources to cover bills and surgery, and we pray for their daughter’s healing. Hold them close when the days feel dark, and remind them that nothing is impossible with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I hear in your petition the very language of a soul that, like Job, has not charged God foolishly. You bless His name even while the adversary presses hard; you speak of miracles already wrought, and you hold fast to the confession that He is good and ever greater than your woe. That is no small grace. The Lord who upheld His servant of old amid the ashes, when property and health and the comfort of friends were stripped away, can surely sustain you now. Do not think it strange that your faith should feel the strain of such repeated blows, your husband’s lost livelihood, your daughter’s sudden injury, the ebbing of provision, and doors that seem to close when you knock for employment. Yet in all this you have not abandoned the throne of grace; you cry out from the deeps, not against them.

Remember it is written, “The Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends.” His deliverance blossomed in the soil of intercession. While you wait upon the Lord for your own need, take up the case of others also. Pray for your husband, that his hands may not hang down and that his diligence may be rewarded in God’s timing. Pray for your daughter, that the Healer would be her portion. Even pray for those who may have spoken hard words to you in this trial. You may find that your own bow is renewed in your hand as you do so. God’s ends in our sorrows are often deeper than we know; Satan is foiled when a saint clings to the slaying hand with undiminished trust. Your weariness in some hours is no denial of faith, Job himself groaned under the weight of his affliction and yet he sinned not with his lips. The Lord knows your frame.

Let this be your confidence: our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The night will not hang its darkness forever. The Lord who has spoken to you in past deliverances will speak again. As yet He may be teaching you to walk by faith without the props of visible supply, but He will not leave you destitute. Wait upon Him with fresh cries, yet wait in quietness. Do not rush to some Jonah-ship that offers a cheaper fare but a cost far greater than you dare pay. The peace of a conscience at rest in God is worth more than gold. Let patience have her perfect work, and hope will shine like a star that never sets. In very deed, the Lord will turn your captivity, and you shall yet say with Job, “He has done all things well.”

God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. God heal me in every area of my life. Deliver and cleanse me of everything in my life that doesn't honor You. Transform and renew my mind. Bless me with love, power, and a sound mind. This trial you are passing through is a fierce storm, and your soul is troubled. But look to Christ, who walked upon the sea as upon a pavement. The waters bore their Lord; He who commands the winds and the waves holds your household in His hand. He permitted this to happen, not to drown you, but to show His power and draw you closer to Himself. You have already seen miracles, and He is good. Do not measure His goodness by the present darkness. The sea retained its nature, yet it obeyed; your circumstances remain difficult, yet they obey His will. Trust His absolute power, not the appearance of things.

But take care that this anxiety does not become a snare. You speak of applying for jobs and feeling an impression to say no. Search out the ground of these impressions. Is it the Spirit teaching you to wait on God, or is it fear, or a sort of weariness that masquerades as piety? We must make provision for the flesh, for the body needs food and your daughter needs surgery. Paul did not forbid caring for the body, but caring for it to fulfill its lusts. When we provide for health, it is a duty; when we plunge into distraction and endless fretting over tomorrow, that is making provision for the lust of security, the lust of a comfortable life. Guard your heart. The present life is a dream, and its riches fly away like a shadow at dawn. You see families who seemed secure suddenly stripped, as though they had grown rich in sleep and awoke empty. Seek first the one thing needful: the health of your soul and your household’s souls. Then you will not be weighed down by manifold desires.

This house of God is a spiritual surgery. You have come here with wounds, the fear, the weariness, the days of shattered optimism. Here you may heal them. Lay them down at the altar. Do not leave carrying fresh wounds of bitterness or despair. If you do not give heed to the Spirit speaking through this trial, you may gather new hurts instead of cleansing the old. Let this poverty teach you what wealth cannot. Let it train you in humility, in fervent prayer, in reliance on Christ alone.

So I say to you: continue to thank Jesus for all He has done. Continue to seek work diligently, for that is not faithless; it is obedience. But do not let the sayings “no” or “not yet” become a law to you unless they are confirmed by wise counsel and the fruit of peace. Test them. Meanwhile, let not your hearts be worn down. He who walks on the sea will come to you in the fourth watch of the night. He is never late. Heal us of our love of ease, and your finances will be healed in the way God sees best. Entrust your daughter’s knee and your husband’s search and your bills to Him, and do not lose heart.

Your words carry the weight of a long season, and it is right to bring that weight before the Lord. You have seen His hand before, and that memory is a strong anchor when the waves rise again.

Consider this: in the law given to Israel, God made provision for a leper’s cleansing before any leper was ever healed. It was an incurable condition, yet the law said, “This shall be the law for the leper in the day of his cleansing.” God left room for Himself to work in a way that defied all human expectation. Your situation, with its closed doors and silent waiting, does not mean He has run out of options. It often means He is preparing a provision you cannot yet see. Do not let the size of the need shrink your view of His capacity. He is not in a financial crisis; the resources of heaven are not strained.

You mention feeling impressed to say no to certain jobs. That may well be His restraint, not confusion. There is a difference between a door slammed shut and a hand gently holding us back until the right door stands open. Wait for His timing, but do not wait in idle panic. Look for ways to serve Him in the small, immediate things. Is there a place to bring a firstfruits offering from what you do have, even if it seems meager? The prophet Haggai spoke to people who worked hard, earned wages, and yet never had enough, because they had not put God’s house first. Not as a way to manipulate blessing, but as a way of declaring, “You are still our source, not this severance check or that potential job.”

The early believers in Jerusalem faced a crushing communal poverty. They were hurting, unable to buy food, yet the Apostle Paul did not write to the other churches to bail out a bankrupt God. He invited them into a fellowship of giving that would stir thanksgiving to God. When we give, whether of finances, time, or care for someone like ### facing surgery, we are not propping up a failing plan. We are joining a work He is already doing. Are there tangible ways to pour out what you have into others, even now? That kind of openhandedness in hardship loosens fear’s grip on the heart.

Above all, remember that your deepest need and your greatest provision meet at the cross. God has made only one provision for our sin and our standing, and that is His Son. When everything else feels unstable, the certainty of Jesus’ finished work is the rock beneath your feet. The same God who made a way for a dying man to live just by looking at a lifted serpent has made a way for you to walk through this wilderness, eyes fixed on Christ. He has not abandoned you in the waters. They will not swallow you up.

Pray for wisdom for the next small step. Pray for ###'s search to bear fruit in the right time. Pray for ###'s healing and the path to that surgery. But also, in the quiet, lay your hand on the provision that cannot be lost and say, “Lord, You are enough.” He will not fail to be what the moment requires.
