Your earnest cry for your husband in his pain has been heard, and it is a tender and Christlike thing that you have brought him before the throne of grace in intercession.
Remember that intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, for the prayer of Christ Himself is of this character, and there is not a single grain of incense in His censer that is for Himself alone. Such prayer is exceedingly prevalent. It has stayed plagues and brought down blessings from on high, and when you plead for another in faith, your weakness shall not make it miscarry.
Do not think that your prayer must be finely ordered to be heard. God will hear the prayer of a staggering man, and the prayer that has not any sense of orderly petition because the one who prays is at his wit's end. A true prayer from one who is near unto the gates of death, or who watches by one who suffers, is a prevailing prayer. Though you reel to and fro under sorrow, the Lord understands the language of a burdened heart.
Take your husband's pain and spread his case before the Lord and press your suit with all the arguments you can muster, as Jacob did. Plead the promises. Pray after this fashion, Remember the Word unto Your servant. Remind your heavenly Father of what He has said, that the Sun of Righteousness has risen with healing in His wings, and that the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the least thing about Christ is healing. He is the Good Physician, and only those who have been healed can tell of His healing power.
Healing and pardon are placed in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, and pardon and healing were one. So let your prayer rise to His throne out of this low dungeon of pain. Expect that He will be very pitiful and will have compassion upon you in your misery. He was not long in answering those who at last cried unto Him, though they were long before they prayed.
We will join you in pleading for him now.
O Lord, our God and our Husband, who has set Your special love upon Your people and who communes with them most lovingly, look in mercy upon this suffering husband. You see his pain and You know his frame. Lay Your healing hand upon him and, if it be Your will, give him relief and restore him. Forgive his sins and let healing flow from Your pardoning hand, for with You is both pardon and healing through Jesus Christ. Quicken him in Your way, and quicken the heart of his wife who intercedes for him, that she may be sustained and kept from the evil. Hear this staggering, heartfelt prayer and answer according to Your abundant compassion. In the name of Jesus our Great High Priest we ask it. Amen.
Persevere in importunity. Yet shall your prayer be in his calamity, and the Lord who hears will in His own time and way give an answer that shall call forth your praise.
