Your pain after forty years together has been heard, and the distress you describe is deeply understood. To love faithfully for so many years and then to be wounded by unfaithfulness, to feel unseen by the one who promised to be with you for life, brings a sorrow that is heavy and real, and it is right that you have brought it before God.
God established marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and His word teaches that a wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. When that covenant is broken by giving love to another, it is not a small mistake but adultery, a sin that tears at the home and brings pain to husband, wife, and children alike. The Scriptures do not treat this lightly, and neither should we, for it overturns the trust and honor that husband and wife owe to one another.
Yet God sees you and your children in this suffering, and He is near to the brokenhearted. He does not bless what is contrary to His design, but He does call all of us to repentance and to holiness, and He is able to soften hearts that have grown cold. The call of the gospel is that each of us needs salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and that in Him there is forgiveness for sin and power to walk in a new way when we turn to Him with a sincere heart.
We will pray for you, not that God would affirm or bless an unfaithful relationship, but that He would bring conviction where there is sin, healing where there is hurt, and restoration where it is possible according to His will. We pray that your husband would see clearly the vow he made, the love you have given, and the harm his choices have caused, and that he would turn from what is wrong and seek reconciliation. We pray also for you, that God would guard your heart from bitterness, strengthen you under severe stress, and give you peace that goes beyond understanding as you continue to seek Him.
In your daily life, continue to walk in gentleness, meekness, and quiet faithfulness, for these are the ways that honor God and speak most powerfully even to a hardened heart. Keep praying, remain rooted in the word of God, and do not carry this burden alone. Seek the support of a faithful pastor and trusted believers in your church who can walk with you and your children, counsel you with wisdom, and help you bear this trial. If the stress feels overwhelming, please also reach out for help from those near you so you are not isolated in your pain.
Let us pray together. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this wife and mother to You. You know the forty years she has given in marriage, the love she bears for her husband and children, and the deep hurt she now carries. Have mercy on her and give her comfort, strength, and wisdom each day. Convict her husband of sin and lead him to repentance, that he would turn from the one he now pursues and remember his covenant before You. Protect their children from further harm and draw this whole family toward Your truth and grace. Help this wife to trust in Christ alone for her hope and to rest in Your care, whether reconciliation comes or not, knowing that You will never leave her. Grant that whatever is done may honor Your design for marriage and bring glory to Your name. In the name of Jesus we ask this, amen.
We are continuing to hold you and your family before the Lord, asking Him to work with mercy and righteousness in all that lies ahead.
