There is forgiveness with Him, and your prayer lays hold upon that blessed truth. You have done well to come not with any merit of your own, but to accept what His Son Jesus has done upon the cross, for there is no other way under Heaven by which you can be saved. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed, and that believing is not merely to repeat words, but to trust in a Person, to depend upon Him without fear as to your present and eternal salvation.
Be assured then, that if you have come with a penitent heart desiring forgiveness, there is forgiveness for your sins, whatever they may have been. It is a divine forgiveness, for He says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is not the pardon of a fellow creature that you need to enter Heaven, but the acquittal of God Himself, and if God acquits you for Christ's sake, that is enough. This forgiveness which God has given you for Christ's sake is not a temporary reprieve, but an eternal forgiveness, perfect and divine, purchased by the blood of the Lamb who is the glory of the eternal city. In Heaven they glory in the Cross, and each one sings, He loved me and gave Himself for me, and you have begun that song on earth.
And what you have asked concerning Heaven is also graciously granted, for Heaven must be in us before we can be in Heaven. Heaven is not merely a place to which we go when we die, it is God fully enjoyed, it is Christ Himself. The chief blessing of Heaven, the cream of Heaven, the Heaven of Heaven, is that the saints shall there see Jesus. If you have Christ within you now, you have much of Heaven here, for you have the Presence of Him that sits upon the throne, and a justification quite as complete as that of the glorified. While you are yet in the wilderness you may spy out the land and eat of the clusters of Eshcol, for if we cannot go to Heaven at once, Heaven can come to us.
Therefore rejoice that your name is written in the book of life, not because you have earned it, but because you have believed on Him whom God has laid in Zion for a foundation. Now rise to your true dignity. You who are of the blood royal of Heaven, princes in God's Kingdom, will you behave yourselves like paupers. You who have been redeemed with blood, whose every fetter has been struck off, live as those who have been made members of Heaven. Continue to drink of the living water, to keep the renewal of first love and first delight in God, and to walk in humble fellowship with the Lamb that is in the midst of the throne, who feeds and leads His people both here and in glory.
Abide in Him, confess Him openly, feed daily upon His Word, and seek the fellowship of His people, that the grace which has begun a good work in you may be carried on until the day when you shall see His face and know that you are fully and forever His.
