The healing leaves of the Tree of Life are not far from you, for Jesus Himself is that Tree, and even the least things about Him are full of healing virtue. Bring your headache, your fever, your aching frame to Him who bore our sicknesses. The prayer that rises from a low dungeon reaches His throne swiftly, He was not long in answering those who cried to Him when they were at their wit's end, and He will not be long with you. Even a prayer that seems to reel and stagger, lacking orderly petitions, is heard when the heart is true.
There is but one sacred Fountain opened for our cleansing and our cure, the wounds of Calvary. Pardon and healing are one in His hand. When Jesus healed the palsied man, He first spoke forgiveness, and the Sun of Righteousness rises still with healing in His wings for body and soul alike. Why should you say, "I am sick," as though health were far off? If perfect wholeness were promised for tomorrow, would you not bear this hour lightly? The Lord has begun to heal His people, and the life He has infused will work its cure until there is no spot or wrinkle remaining. Let your expectation be from Him, not from your own frame or feelings.
For your son, remember that the promises spoken to saints of old belong to all who, like Jacob, can wrestle in prayer. You have been breathing this cry, "O Lord, guide him, heal him, make him happy in You." That prayer, though it trembles with apprehension, is not ignored. Jacob's prayer was answered, though not as he expected, and your son's healing may come in a manner more glorious than you can now conceive. The Lord hears the staggering prayer of a mother's heart. Press your suit with the arguments He Himself has given: His covenant, His compassion, His power to restore.
Do not forsake the closet now, nor let the dark suggestion creep in that prayer is in vain. If there be delay, it is not denial. Mighty prayer will yet prevail if it has but time. The Church must pray if she would see healing power descend, and you are part of that praying Church. The power to heal was conspicuously present when Christ was teaching and when He had been alone with the Father in the wilderness, so let His Word and your secret pleadings be linked together. Go now, spread your case before Him, and expect that He will be very pitiful toward your misery and your son's distress. The leaves of that heavenly Tree are not withered; their healing influences drop still upon the nations, and upon this house, and upon your own head and home.
