It is a mercy that you bring these afflictions to the place of prayer, for our God is the Lord who heals us. The least thing about Christ is healing; the very leaves from that Tree of Life, which are for the healing of the nations, carry virtue enough for your dear parents. See in Jesus an abundance of healing power, not only in His great atoning fruit, but in the hem of His garment, the touch of His hand. That fungal infection in the lungs, those failing eyes and swelling feet, the unruly blood, these are tokens of our mortal frailty, yet they are not beyond the reach of Him who made the body and redeemed it. When He was upon earth, the healing power was conspicuously present, and it is no less present now, for He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Bring these two cases before Him who links pardon with healing, as when He told the palsied man, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” The same word restored his limbs. Seek first the forgiveness that brings healing in its wings, the Sun of Righteousness rising upon them with wholeness in His beams. Do not merely cry for bodily ease, but let the petition rise for their whole being, that the Great Physician would take them by the hand and lift them up. There must be a contact established, a living touch of faith. The healing virtue infused by grace will work health and cure, even if it be gradual, until every spot and wrinkle of disease is dissolved in the perfection of His presence.
Do not grow faint because the ailments are many and stubborn. Calvary is the place for the healing balm rather than the lancet and knife. The Lord Himself knows how to deal with broken constitutions and weary frames. He does not merely point out the disease, He applies the remedy. Let the hearing of His word minister faith, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Plead the promises over your father and mother; bring them constantly in the arms of intercession to the Savior’s feet, even as the paralytic was let down through the roof. You value any instrument that breaks the hard heart of unbelief, but remember that true healing, whether of soul or body, comes from God alone. Real saving work is His, and His alone.
Desire to see them rise and serve, but know that healing must come before service. It is when Jesus takes the fevered hand and lifts us that we are fitted for ministry. Perhaps this season of weakness is carving a channel for deeper grace, making them vessels for His glory. The very least touch of Christ can change the life-blood, affect the spirits, and make the nature other than it was before. There is hope for the diabetic mother, for the father with his complex miseries, for the Lord is able to heal, though He may not always manifest that power in the same degree. There are seasons of special visitation, days of refreshing from His presence. Cry unto Him for such an acceptable day! None are beyond His skill who come unto God through Him, for He ever lives to make intercession and dispense His healing gifts.
