We are bringing your parents before the Lord right now, standing in agreement for His healing touch.
As you described their struggles, my mind went to the profound truth that runs all through Scripture: the life of the flesh is in the blood. We know our bodies depend on that physical lifeblood, but infinitely more, our access to God for every need is only through a blood sacrifice. It is the blood that makes atonement. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission. That is why we don’t come to God apart from a sacrifice, and why we place our full weight on the blood of Jesus Christ alone. He entered not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood, obtaining eternal redemption for us. He is both the sacrifice and the sacrificer, our High Priest who has gone into the true Holy Place in heaven itself to intercede.
Knowing that gives us strong footing to pray for your mother’s lungs. An infection, a fungal growth, speaks of something foreign taking hold and spreading darkness where there should be cleanness and life. Under the old covenant, almost all things were purified with blood. The tabernacle, the vessels, the very people were sprinkled. How much more can we ask that the blood of Christ, which cleanses us from all sin, would be applied to drive out every intrusion in her body? We ask the Lord to rebuke this infection, to let His cleansing life flood her lungs, and to restore them to full health and right function, regulating her blood sugar as He designed it.
For your father, the swelling in his feet, the trouble with blood pressure, the headaches, the concerns with his eyes and urinary tract, all of these are tied to the flow and the vessels of life. They are reminders of our frailty, that our bodies groan under the curse. Yet that same passage which teaches us the life is in the blood also shows us that God gave it upon the altar to make atonement. Because Christ’s righteous life was poured out, we can ask for His life-giving power to course through your father’s frame. We pray specifically that the swelling subsides, that the pressure normalizes, and that every infection in his urinary tract is purged. We ask for his eyesight to sharpen and the headaches to vanish, not by constraint but because our Lord is the one who took on the form of a servant and healed all who were oppressed.
Let this be a time where you, and they, lay all these burdens down at the feet of the One whose blood speaks better things. When the priest went in on the Day of Atonement, he sprinkled the blood on the mercy seat and before it, cleansing the people. Jesus has done that with His own life, not only to forgive sin but to open the way for mercy and grace to help in time of need. May the Holy Spirit bring that cleansing, restoring mercy to your mother and father right now. We commit them into the hands of the Lord who loves them and gave Himself for them.
