We join with you in lifting up this urgent need before our Father and we are moved by your compassionate heart for your ex's father and for his whole family in this very difficult time. We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and it is only through Him that we can be saved. As it is written, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. We also rejoice that your greatest concern is for his soul, that he would repent and be saved, for that is the healing that lasts for eternity.
We know that our God is both the healer of our bodies and the healer of our souls. Scripture reminds us that He forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases Psalm 103:3 and that the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up James 5:15. Yet we also know that His ultimate desire is that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9 and that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. So we pray for both, for physical mercy and comfort if it is His will to grant more years, and above all for the assurance of salvation.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before Your throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear father who is so very ill. Lord, You know his body, his pain, and the shortness of his days as man sees them. We ask that You would be with him every second, that You would lay Your healing hand upon him according to Your perfect will. If it would bring You glory, we ask You to heal him and give him more years. Even as we ask this, we pray that You would remove his pain and any bad effects of his illness, that You would give him physical, emotional and mental strength, and that You would make him comfortable and at peace. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and his thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. Lord, above all we plead for his soul. Draw him to Yourself, give him a heart of repentance, help him to confess his sins, for You have promised If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Let him call upon the name of the Lord and be saved, for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved Romans 10:13. Save him, Lord, we pray, and let him know the comfort of being forgiven and reconciled to You.
We also lift up his wife, your ex, and the whole family. You see their weariness and sorrow. We ask that You would be near to them, for You are near to those who have a broken heart, and save those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. Be their strength, for You have said Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you Isaiah 41:10. Pour out Your comfort as the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Help them to cast all their cares upon You and to support one another in love during these days.
We entrust this father and his family into Your loving and sovereign hands, trusting that Your will is good and perfect and that Your mercy endures forever. Help our friend who is praying to continue to show Christlike love and to speak the hope of the gospel with gentleness while there is still time. We ask all these things seeking Your will together in Jesus' name, amen.
