Healing from COPD, asthma

It is a fearful thing to watch your child struggle for breath, and the weight of that concern is not lost on the One who knit him together. The immune system you are praying about is a marvel of design, crafted to identify and fight off what should not be there. God understood completely every detail of its workings when He made it. He knows the inflammation, the infection, and the strain this heat puts on his lungs. So we bring that plea for cleansing and strengthening to Him with confidence, not because we can manipulate a healing, but because we have a compassionate High Priest who is touched by our weaknesses.

I want you to be freed from the heavy burden that so often gets laid on people in these situations. Sickness is not a sign of spiritual weakness or a lack of faith on your part or on your son’s. Do not let that thought take root. Paul himself pleaded with the Lord three times for a thorn in the flesh to be removed, and God’s answer was not the removal he sought, but a sufficiency of grace. Healing is a mercy we receive, not a wage we earn by our performance. The idea that you must conjure up a certain level of faith or that your son’s illness is a direct judgment is a lie that ensnares people and drives them away from the heart of the Father.

What we see in Scripture is that Jesus healed in many ways. Sometimes it was instant, with a word. Other times it was a process, a gradual restoration. There was one man He touched, and his sight returned gradually. All healing is divine, whether it comes through the slow, established processes the Creator placed within these bodies, where inflammation recedes, airways clear, and immunity builds over time, or through a sudden, miraculous intervention. Do not be confined to a single pattern of expectation. When you anoint with oil and pray, you are not activating a formula. You are giving him a concrete point to release his trust into the hands of a loving God.

The deepest need is always the eternal one, the forgiveness of sins that secures his soul, and yet Matthew makes it clear that the suffering of Christ touches physical healing too. He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. So pray boldly. Ask for that cooling of the lungs, for the immune system to function without being overwhelmed, for easy breathing in this oppressive heat. Ask the Lord to command what is foreign and hostile to flee from his body.

Remember, a religious system that tries to legislate healing or force God’s hand will always leave you exhausted and confused. But Jesus does not deal with us according to a cold system. He deals with us as a Shepherd. He calls His own by name. He goes outside the rigid ways of men to do something new, and He often works through the simple, trusting prayers of a parent who refuses to stop asking. Hold fast to that. I am joining my faith with yours now for a tangible strengthening in his lungs and a deep peace in your heart, trusting that the One who created that immune system is more than able to restore its proper function.
