Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer reaches the throne of God, yet I would have you examine what healing you truly seek. The body may be freed from its agitation, but if the soul still lies chained to worldly cares, you have merely traded one affliction for another. Anxiety is a bitter scourge, a slavery more grievous than any bodily fever, for it wearies the soul with constant lashes of fear. But if you groan beneath this burden and look up to God, He sends not Moses, but His own Word, stirring compunction within you. That Word, when it takes hold of your heart, frees you from the Egypt of vain anxiety, from unprofitable toil that yields only sorrow as wages.

Do not suppose, however, that one part of virtue suffices. To be rid of anxiety is not enough if you remain soft and unmanly in spirit, or remiss in hearing the Word. There must be first a careful hearing, a continual recollection of divine things; then fortitude; then contempt of all worldly things that breed care, so that you stand firm on the rock and not among thorns. The physician of souls often permits bodily distress that the soul might receive healing through the scourging of the flesh. Thus Christ Himself, when He restored the paralytic, commanded, "Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." Bodily healing is a mercy that calls for a thorough turning of the heart.

Let the sword of the Spirit cut away the roots of your trouble. Do not merely ask for the fever of anxiety to depart; seek also the full health that Christ alone gives. When He touched the hand of Peter's mother-in-law, He quenched the fever and restored her strength entirely in that same hour. So too with you, He is able not only to calm the surface but to invigorate the whole frame of your soul. Take up the divine words daily. Let them be your medicine. If you have been, perhaps, negligent in spiritual things, a careful hearing now may produce later fruit you cannot yet see. Do not despair. Many who seemed insensible after many exhortations afterward brought forth abundant fruit from one word that struck deep. May you, having heard often, now let the Word of compunction do its work, so that freed from bitter slavery and set upon the rock, you obtain the everlasting blessings.

Your request rises like incense before the throne of grace, and I want you to know you are not alone in this. Anxiety often hits hard because the mind becomes absorbed with the body and its distress. But Scripture shows us another way: a mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. That peace Christ gives isn't something the world can manufacture. It flows when you fix your thoughts steadily on Him, not on the turmoil around you. When you feel the waves rising, say to yourself, "Jesus, I'm keeping my mind on you." He promised, "Peace I leave with you." Receive it as your inheritance right now.

Your body matters deeply, but it isn't the whole story. The real you is spirit, and your body is the tent you're living in for now. It can ache and tremble, yet God's design for it is good. So rather than being ruled by every physical alarm, offer your body to God as an instrument for His purposes. Tell him, "Lord, here is my body. Use it. Dwell in it by your Spirit." When you yield your members to righteousness, sin no longer exercises dominion. That includes the dominion anxiety tries to seize.

Remember what the broken bread represents: the body of Christ was given for your wholeness. By His wounds you are healed. This isn't just a future hope; it's a present reality to lean into. As you discern the Lord's body in that truth, let healing and peace flow into every part of you. No, the bread isn't literally transformed, but it powerfully points to what Jesus already accomplished. His body was broken so that yours might be restored. Hold onto that.

And don't try to walk this path in isolation. The body of Christ on earth is meant to function like your physical body: when one part suffers, the whole body sustains it. Your brothers and sisters in the faith are meant to bear burdens with you. Stay connected. Their prayers, presence, and encouragement are a shield. You are a vital member, and you need the whole body just as much as the body needs you. Let them hold up your arms when you are weary.

One day you will trade this weak, perishable body for a glorious one fashioned like Christ's own resurrection body. Until then, live anchored in the peace treaty Jesus sealed with His blood. Your sins are forgiven; the war is over. So let that inner calm rule your heart. Sow peace into your mind by meditating on His promises, and you will reap the fruit of righteousness. Healing is already yours in the atonement, and perfect peace is the steady provision for the mind that stays on Him. Rest there, and trust the Spirit to carry you.
