We have heard your heart in this hard season and we are carrying this burden with you before the Lord in Jesus name. We understand how distressing it must have been to be cut off by the judge when you were trying to tell the truth about your legal rent, and then to feel trapped into saying the higher amount that the landlord is billing you, and now to be anxious about getting in trouble and facing the agency review again without a lawyer. We also hear the deep discouragement in your words when you say you hate your life right now, and we want to gently lift you up and speak truth and hope over you.
We want to remind you that your life is precious to God and He has purpose for you even in this painful and confusing moment. The Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted, Psalm 34:18, and He sees exactly what happened in that hearing when you were not allowed to fully explain. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1, and He invites you to cast all your worries on Him because He cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. We rebuke the despair and the hatred toward your own life, because God created you with love and He has plans for you, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. We encourage you not to let this one difficult hearing define your worth or your future, for we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, Romans 8:28, even when circumstances feel unjust.
We also want to speak about truth, because God delights in honesty. Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who do truthfully are His delight, Proverbs 12:22, and you shall not give false testimony, Exodus 20:16. We hear that you did try to tell the truth about your legal rent and you clarified that the higher amount is what the landlord is currently billing you, so we do not believe you intended to deceive. Yet because the record now shows the higher number, we strongly encourage you to correct the record quickly and clearly in a way that honors truth. Since the judge is sending the case back to the agency and noted the agency had not reviewed your paperwork, this is actually an opportunity to make sure the truth is fully seen. We encourage you to promptly write a clear, calm, dated letter to the agency explaining that you were cut off when trying to state your legal rent, that the higher amount you stated is only what the landlord is billing you and is not the legal rent, and that your true legal rent is the lower amount with documentation attached. Keep copies of everything, attach your lease, rent bills, and any prior paperwork that shows the correct amount, and keep a copy of your letter. We also encourage you to seek help right away even without money for a lawyer, by contacting local legal aid, a tenant help clinic, housing court help center, or a trusted community advocate who can review your papers and help you submit a correction or affidavit. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7.
We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and peace with Him. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me, John 14:6, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name for salvation and for help in every trouble.
We are praying together with you now.
We pray, Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for this dear one who is weary and anxious. Lord, You saw that hearing, You heard the interruption, You know the true legal rent and the burden of being billed the higher amount, and You know the fear of being misunderstood. We ask You to bring Your perfect peace to this troubled heart and to remove thoughts of hating life and replace them with hope in Your love and purpose. Forgive any misstatement and help this dear one to walk in complete truth with a clear conscience before You and before the agency. We ask You to give favor with the agency reviewers, that they would truly review the paperwork this time with care and fairness, and that the correct rent amount would be recognized. Provide wise help, whether a legal aid attorney, counselor, or advocate, and provide for every rent and daily need according to Your riches. Guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus, strengthen faith, and let Your will be done in this case for good. We ask all this in the saving and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and mediator, amen.
