Behold, you have brought a request for one in hard trial, and it is well that we bear her before the throne of grace. In all this, let us remember that if God could uphold Job in the loss of all things, He can support her also. Look to Him for this Divine support. In time of trial there is special fear of our sinning; we are even tempted to rebellion, yet she must not be swift to complain, for we have heard of the patience of Job. True religion is always a matter of desire, and if the desire be holy, even where there is no power to carry it into action, God accepts it. So for the employment she seeks, let her desire be purified; none of us like crosses, and we often want to choose our own, saying, “My trouble is in my family; if I could have a cross in my business instead, I would not mind.” But He appoints our bounds. Let her set her heart upon fearing the Lord, for if she desires that, it is the very essence of true godliness.
As to her heart being opened and restoration to family, think on Peter. His restoration was brought about by a look from Christ. That look severed him from the crowd, broke his heart, and afterward he was restored to his office. We pray for that same look of mercy upon her, that she may see Him, and in seeing, yield unreservedly, for we are wrong, God must be right. Her inward part is what matters most: He desires truth in the inward parts, and a broken and contrite heart He will not despise.
And do you, who brought this request, desire to fear God’s name? If you do not desire it, you do not fear Him. But if you have that desire, then fly to the Savior yourself, and lead her there. The hard time she endures may indeed be the very plow of God, turning up the hardened soil of her heart. When the soul is brought low, when desires crumble and the end of earthly hopes draws near, then, if one is willing, the stubbornness begins to soften. This very affliction, patiently borne, can open her heart far more than days of ease. Yet take heed: what is this job that is in her heart's desire?
Does she seek it as one who desires to be greater than all, panting after the honor that comes from men whom she may secretly despise? Or does she desire it simply to provide, to serve, and to keep her soul from idleness, which is a door to sin? Too often we bestow more earnest thought on our worldly provision than on the words of God, giving all our leisure to the vain shows of this life. But we are called to a different going out; as Christ came out to us, taking flesh to reconcile us to the Father, so we must go out to the prodigal, not with nagging, but with the persistent witness of love, knowing that even the disciples needed to hear the same truth again and again before it pierced their sleep.
Do not be weary in praying for her and speaking of Christ's kindness, for the heart that has been deeply plowed will at last receive the seed. And pray not chiefly that she obtain her heart's desire, but rather that her heart desire what God wills. For many prophets and righteous men longed to see what we have seen in the gospel, and could not. The greatest blessing is not a new position among men, but to be brought back from the far country into the King's presence, no longer a prisoner standing without, but a child at the table.

You are asking for an open heart, for restoration, and for a job that fulfills her. Those longings are not just about practical fixes; they touch the deepest needs of the human soul.
Often, when someone is in a hard place, the temptation for those on the outside is to immediately look for a reason. We might wonder, as the friends of an ancient sufferer did, if some misstep brought the trouble on. They assumed that calamity must be the direct payback for some secret iniquity. They urged a quick moral inventory, believing that if the person would just “get right,” everything would be smooth again. But that view was far too simple. The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike. Hardship is not always a bill for past wrongs. Sometimes the most upright heart is caught in a storm it did not create, and the person in the middle of it doesn’t understand the “why” any more than you do.
What can happen then is that words meant to help can instead wound. The sufferer feels accused rather than comforted. The friends who came to offer sympathy ended up being seen as miserable comforters because their advice boiled down to a demand: clean up your act and peace will come. Yet the cry of a hurting heart is not primarily for a logical explanation. It is a cry for God himself. It is a deep, sometimes inarticulate, hunger for someone who truly sees, who can lay a hand on both the divine and the human, bridging the gap between confusion and the One who holds all answers. That longing for a mediator is one of the most fundamental cries of our being.
Jesus Christ is that answer. He does not stand at a distance, offering trite solutions. He entered into suffering, and he understands the groan of a heart that feels stripped bare. For every anguished question that rises up, the New Testament offers a person, not just a principle. Jesus is the one who can take away the rod of fear and welcome the weary.
So continue to pray boldly for an open heart. Ask God to work in ways you cannot engineer, softening and restoring what is broken, including the bonds of family. Pray also for her provision, for a job that meets genuine needs. But let your ultimate plea be that in finding that job and in that restoration, she first and foremost finds her heart’s true desire, which is not just a position or a reconciled human relationship, but a living knowledge of God. The world calls for us to just “find God and be at peace,” but it offers no power to do so. Jesus is the one who makes that possible. He can take a heart hiding behind thick clouds and bring it into clear light. Lift her up to him, who is mighty in strength and wise in heart, and trust that he can accomplish what no amount of human reasoning ever could.
