I have posted before about experiencing harassment by people who were doing so under the influence of demons that came into my life when I was in the new age. Well, God has helped me see that problems with unforgiveness kept these demons being able to harass me. After this, I began to theorize that making peace with these people who have been harassing me was the key to finally putting an end to this demonic harassment but some of their evil behavior under the influence of these demons is still there/may still be there. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.

We have heard your request and we thank you for sharing so honestly about what you have been through. We rejoice with you that God has shown you the danger of unforgiveness and that you have turned away from the new age. Those practices do open doors to demonic influence, and we praise God that He is bringing you into light and truth. As it is written, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. And if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.

We want to gently correct and encourage you in a few areas. Unforgiveness does give a foothold to the enemy, for Scripture says do not let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil Ephesians 4:26-27, and that we should forgive so that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan 2 Corinthians 2:10-11. The Lord Jesus taught that if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:15. At the same time, theorizing that making peace with those who have harassed you is the key to stopping demonic harassment can lead to confusion. Forgiveness in your heart before God and deliverance through Christ are the keys, not reconciliation with people who may still be walking in evil. Forgiveness releases them to God and frees you from bitterness, but reconciliation and trust require their repentance and changed behavior. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18, but we are also told that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. And we are told to be sober and self-controlled, for your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8.

True peace and protection come not from appeasing people, but from submitting fully to God, renouncing every new age practice and agreement you made, closing those doors in repentance, and resisting the enemy in the authority of Jesus. Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds 2 Corinthians 10:4. You who are in Christ have One greater living in you, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4, and God has delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love Colossians 1:13.

We also noticed your request mentions God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and deliverance from darkness. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation Romans 10:9-10. It is the blood of Jesus and His name that gives us authority to renounce the works of darkness and to be forgiven and cleansed.

We want to pray together with you in Jesus name.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You for drawing our dear one out of the new age and out of darkness into Your marvelous light. We confess before You every involvement with the new age and every sin that opened a door to the enemy, and we ask You to forgive and cleanse through the blood of Jesus. We choose together to forgive from the heart every person who has harassed and harmed, just as You in Christ forgave us, and we release them into Your hands, asking You not to hold this against them but to bring them to repentance if it is Your will. We renounce every demonic influence and every assignment of harassment against our dear one, and we command in the name of Jesus that every harassing spirit must leave and go where Jesus sends it, and not return. We ask You to close every door that was opened and to fill every place with Your Holy Spirit, Your Word, Your peace and Your protection. Put Your full armor upon our dear one, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the feet fitted with the preparation of the Good News of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is Your Word Ephesians 6:14-17. Keep this one under the shadow of Your wings, let no harassment prosper, and let Your perfect love cast out all fear. Teach this one to walk in daily submission to You, to resist the devil, to stay in fellowship with other believers, to stay in the Word and in prayer, and to seek godly counsel and discipleship for continued freedom. We ask that You would bring justice in Your way and time, for vengeance belongs to You Romans 12:19, and that You would bring deep healing from all trauma and restore what the enemy has stolen. We declare that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and deliverer we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to forgive as an act of obedience even while you maintain wise boundaries. Forgiveness does not mean you must put yourself back into harmful situations or trust those who continue in evil behavior. Continue to renounce any remaining new age objects, books, practices, or media, fill your home and mind with Scripture and worship, and stay connected to a Bible believing church where you can receive prayer and accountability. The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles Psalm 34:17. Keep crying out to Him, keep submitting to Him, and keep resisting the enemy in Jesus name, and He will give you rest and victory.

We hear how heavy this has been, carrying both the memory of the new age involvement and the ongoing sense of being harassed. It makes sense you would be looking for what will finally bring peace, and we are grateful you have been bringing this to God and asking for wisdom.

One insight that may help as you pray it through is that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. Forgiveness is work God does in your own heart as you release the debt and let Him soften resentment over time. Reconciliation is about restoring a relationship, and that takes two people, plus safety and real change over time. If harmful behavior is still happening, stepping back with clear boundaries is often the wiser way to walk out forgiveness, not rushing to make peace face to face.

It can also help not to stay focused on the harassment or on trying to figure out every spiritual cause. We find more steadiness when we keep our attention on Christ and on simple faithfulness day by day.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. Cover them with Your peace, guard them from harm, and give clear wisdom for each next step. Heal what still hurts from the past and lead them in Your way, one day at a time. Amen.

Your sorrow has been laid before the Lord with prayerful care, and I thank you for speaking so plainly about the harassment you have endured and the snare of the new age from which the Lord has been delivering you.

There is a precious truth that meets you at the very threshold of your trouble. There is forgiveness with God. It is not a forgiveness that must be wrung from men, nor one that depends upon whether those who have harmed you will ever rightly regard you. The Lord says, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a divine forgiveness, surprising and complete, and it is given for Christ's sake. If you tremble and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness, hear this assurance, that whatever your life has been until now, even with doors once opened to the new age, there is forgiveness with Him through Jesus Christ, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but continues daily to forgive, and that forgiveness is an eternal forgiveness, a full forgiveness, the whole debt blotted out when you put your trust in Christ.

You have seen rightly that unforgiveness can give place to the enemy and keep the soul in bondage. Scripture calls us to a joint work of mercy, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven us. For those of us who have had so much forgiven, so much outward and inward sin covered by the blood, to forgive ought to become as natural as to open our hands. To forgive from the heart is to release the claim of vengeance into the hands of God, who judges righteously, and to desire no more to nurse bitterness.

Yet your deliverance does not rest upon whether you can make peace with those who harass you, nor upon whether their evil behavior ceases at once. Deliverance is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that showeth mercy. As Israel did not bring itself forth from Egypt, but it is written, He brought them forth, so your deliverance from the pit is of His doing. The Lord has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty, and when God proclaims, I have found a ransom, then is the deliverance certain, indeed already accomplished at the cross. The lamb was slain, and by that blood you are brought forth, and that with enrichment, with silver and gold of grace.

Therefore do not think that you must purchase peace with men to purchase deliverance from the adversary. Seek peace where you may, as far as it lies with you, but do not confuse forgiving those who have wronged you with placing yourself again under their power to harm you, or with approving what is evil. If their behavior under dark influence continues, forgiveness does not require you to remain in harm's way or to call evil good. It requires you to hand them over to God, to pray for their souls, to renounce all fellowship with the works of darkness you once walked in, and to cleave wholly to Christ.

Turn then where the forgiveness is, with God Himself. Confess plainly to Him the sins of the past, the dalliance with the new age, and the bitterness that has lingered. Believe that there is forgiveness now, at this moment, through the promise and the gift of His Son. Ask Him to keep you, to set a guard about your mind and dwelling, and to fill what was once empty with His Word and Spirit.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness that Thou mayest be feared, we bless Thee that Thou art He who blotteth out transgression for Thine own sake. Look upon this dear soul who has been harassed and wearied, and who desires to be free indeed. For Christ's sake forgive all sin, cleanse from every defilement of the past, and grant a full sense of that complete and eternal pardon which is found only in Jesus. Teach the heart to forgive as it has been forgiven, to release all bitterness and to leave vengeance with Thee. Bring deliverance by Thy mighty hand, for Thou alone canst bring forth from the pit, and Thou hast found a ransom in Thy Son. Cover this life with the blood of the Lamb, shut every door once opened to deceit, guard against every harassing tongue and every dark influence, and grant wisdom to walk in holiness and in safety, whether peace with others can be attained or not. Let gratitude be deeper and song more jubilant as Thou makest manifest Thy salvation. Keep this one in perfect peace, with mind stayed on Thee, until the hour and moment of full deliverance which Thou hast purposed shall be fully seen. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, Amen.

Abide in the Word, walk in the light, keep close company with faithful believers who can watch and pray with you, and seek the counsel of godly pastors near you if the harassment persists. The Lord who brought Israel forth with a strong hand is able to bring you forth also, and to keep you.
