Good and Faithful Servant
I have posted before about experiencing harassment by people who were doing so under the influence of demons that came into my life when I was in the new age. Well, God has helped me see that problems with unforgiveness kept these demons being able to harass me. After this, I began to theorize that making peace with these people who have been harassing me was the key to finally putting an end to this demonic harassment but I am getting a little frustrated because although progress has been made in my relationships with some of these people after I reached out to them, some of their evil behavior under the influence of these demons is still there. I know I have to be persistent but I'm getting a little bit annoyed. Thank you.

We are grateful that you have shared this update with us and we rejoice that God has given you insight into how unforgiveness can give a foothold to the enemy. We see that you are seeking to walk in obedience and freedom after coming out of the new age, and we want to walk with you in prayer and truth as you continue to press forward.

What you have discerned about unforgiveness is biblical. Ephesians 4:26-27 says Be angry, and don't sin. Don't let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil. And Matthew 6:14-15 says For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Holding onto bitterness truly does leave a door open for harassment and oppression, and forgiving as Christ forgave us, Colossians 3:13, is essential to closing that door.

We also want to gently correct a theory that may lead to discouragement. While we are commanded in Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, making peace with people is not in itself what brings deliverance from demonic harassment. Our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. People may be influenced by evil, but the battle is spiritual and the victory is only in Jesus Christ. Reaching out to those who have harassed you to forgive and to pursue peace as God leads is good, but it will not always change their behavior, and their continued evil behavior does not mean you have failed or that God has failed. It means they remain responsible for their own choices while you remain responsible to walk in holiness and authority in Christ.

Coming out of the new age requires more than forgiveness toward others. It requires full repentance and renunciation of those practices themselves, for they are an abomination to the Lord Deuteronomy 18:10-12. In Acts 19:19 many of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. We encourage you to continue to confess, renounce, and turn away from every new age practice, agreement, and object, and to break any former ties in the name of Jesus. Deliverance is not earned by our peacemaking efforts but is received through submission to God and resistance of the devil in the authority of Christ. James 4:7 says Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. And 1 John 4:4 reminds us You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

We notice that you mentioned God but did not mention Jesus Christ in this request, and we must speak to this with love. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and authority over the enemy. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full faith in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for your sins, and to call upon His name daily for protection, forgiveness, and power. Luke 10:19 says Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you, but that authority is in His name alone.

We understand your frustration and annoyance that progress has been slow and that some evil behavior continues. God understands as well, and He calls us to persistence without growing weary. Galatians 6:9 says Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We encourage you to keep forgiving, to keep praying for those who harass you as Jesus commanded in Matthew 5:44 love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you, but also to establish wise and godly boundaries. Pursuing peace does not mean remaining in harm's way or allowing ongoing abuse. Put on the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:11 each day, stay rooted in Scripture, in prayer, and in fellowship with a Bible believing church where you can receive personal pastoral support and accountability.

We pray together now for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You only in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for drawing our dear one out of darkness and into Your light. We thank You for revealing the need to forgive and we ask You to help us to forgive fully from the heart as You have forgiven us. We confess and renounce every new age practice and every agreement with darkness, and we ask You to close every door that was opened to the enemy and to cleanse us by the blood of Jesus. We ask You to fill us with Your Holy Spirit and to clothe us in Your armor so we may stand firm. Lord, we resist the devil in Jesus name and command every harassing spirit to flee and to have no place in this life. We ask for Your protection, Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and Your strength to persevere without annoyance or weariness. Help us to be at peace with all men as far as it depends on us, to love and pray for those who have harassed us, and to trust You with their hearts and their response. Let Your will be done, let Your deliverance be complete, and let our lives bear witness to Your power and mercy. We pray that those who have done evil would come to repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ as well. We entrust this battle to You, knowing greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast, to continue in daily repentance, forgiveness, prayer, and the Word, and to trust that God will complete the good work He has begun in you.

We are grateful you reached out again and shared where things stand. It makes sense you would feel both encouraged by the progress with some people and frustrated that not everything has changed yet. That tension is hard to carry.

One thing that has helped others is noticing the difference between the work God does in our own hearts as we release bitterness, and the separate question of rebuilding trust with others. You can choose to forgive and seek peace, and that is valuable in itself, even when the other person does not respond the same way or still acts in hurtful ways. Their choices remain theirs, and peace does not always mean the relationship returns to what it was.

We are glad God has been showing you more about forgiveness. It often happens in layers, not all at once, and annoyance or weariness along the way does not mean you have failed.

It could help to keep walking this out with a steady, trusted pastor who knows your story from your new age background and can help you sort through when to reach out, when to step back, and how to stay rooted in Christ without keeping close watch on whether others are still under spiritual influence. You do not have to carry the weight of figuring this out alone.

Father, we thank You for the growth You have already brought in their life. We ask for Your peace to guard their heart, for wisdom for each relationship, and for a deeper sense of safety in Christ each day. Lead them step by step and keep them close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your letter has been read with prayerful care, and I thank God for the measure of light He has already given you. You came out of the dark paths of the new age where many snares are laid for souls, and you have felt what it is to be harassed, not merely by men but by the powers of darkness that work through men. Blessed be His name that He has shown you your own heart also, and the root of unforgiveness which can give place to the enemy.

There is forgiveness with God. This is the first and chief mercy you need, and it is a divine forgiveness. It is not the forgiveness of a fellow creature, which though desirable is not necessary to enter heaven, but the forgiveness of Him against whom we have chiefly sinned. The Lord saith, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is surprising forgiveness, so surprising that the Lord repeats it, lest any trembling sinner should doubt it. If you have been the chief of sinners, you may have the chief of sinners forgiveness, and God can bestow it now. There is forgiveness, and that forgiveness is unlimited and complete. Where God draws no limit, do not you draw any. It is not forgiveness up to a certain point or up to a certain date, but a full and eternal forgiveness through Jesus Christ His Son, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. He has found a ransom. The prisoner ready to be executed finds undeserved deliverance because the Kings own Son has borne the penalty. This deliverance is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that showeth mercy. He brought them forth, and He must bring you forth.

You have rightly seen that as God has forgiven you so you must forgive. We have in Him a full and continual forgiveness, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one, and therefore it becomes a joint stock business of mutual forgiveness among Christians. Forgiving one another, as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for us to forgive ought to be as natural as to open our hands. Do not think the question of your acceptance is left open to be found out by your dealings with men. Your forgiveness is with God through the blood of the Lamb that was slain, and when the Lamb is slain deliverance is made effectual.

Yet I would have you take care lest you mistake the way of deliverance. You theorize that making peace with those who harass you will itself shut the door to the harassing spirits, and you are cast down because their evil behavior continues though you have reached out. Remember Jacob at the brook Jabbok. He prayed for deliverance from him whom he thought bloodthirsty, and he crossed the brook full of fear, but he met his brother Esau and Esau fell upon his neck and kissed him. God can turn the heart of an enemy, and we have often seen peace within our borders when we looked for strife. But our deliverance from worse enemies is wrought by a greater salvation. You have a deliverance from the archers, but it is Christ who overthrows them. To forgive from the heart is your duty and will keep your own soul tender before God, but to make men act righteously is not in your power, nor is your safety to be built upon their reformation. If you make your peace with God through Christ, you may leave the conduct of others with Him.

Therefore be persistent in forgiveness, but do not be annoyed as though God were slow. There are many who would be rebellious very soon if they found forgiveness too soon, so He brings down their heart with labor. He will keep you low that you may take no atom of the honor of deliverance to yourself, but give it all to free grace. Forgive freely, as you have been forgiven, and pray for those who despitefully use you, yet look for your deliverance not to your own apologies or theirs, but to Him who brings forth with silver and gold, who enriches as He delivers.

May the Lord keep you from returning to those vanities you have left, and may He cause this whisper to drive away despair in your soul, There is forgiveness, there is forgiveness with Him. Seek it now, at this moment, through Jesus Christ alone, and rest there. Then, whether men change quickly or slowly, you shall sing a song of deliverance, for He has found a ransom and your deliverance is certain, indeed it is already accomplished in Christ.
