Harassment

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have posted before about experiencing harassment by people who were doing so under the influence of demons that came into my life when I was in the new age. Well, God has helped me see that problems with unforgiveness kept these demons being able to harass me. After this, I began to theorize that making peace with these people who have been harassing me was the key to finally putting an end to this demonic harassment but I am getting a little frustrated because although progress has been made in my relationships with some of these people after I reached out to them, some of their evil behavior under the influence of these demons is still there. I know I have to be persistent but I'm getting a little bit annoyed. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.

We have read your request and we thank you for sharing so honestly about this ongoing harassment and your desire to walk in freedom. We rejoice that God has shown you the trap of unforgiveness and that you have taken steps to forgive and to reach out, and we understand your frustration that the evil behavior has not yet fully stopped even after progress has been made.

We want to gently bring some biblical clarity to what you are experiencing. Your discernment that this is spiritual warfare is right, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. When you were involved in the new age you opened a door to those forces, and Scripture warns us not to give place to the devil Ephesians 4:27. We praise God that you have turned from that, and we encourage you to continue to fully renounce and repent of every new age practice, teaching, and object, and to confess it to the Lord, for He is faithful to cleanse and to deliver when we turn to Him in truth.

We also hear your theory that making peace with these people is the key to ending the harassment, and we want to help you see this more biblically. Forgiveness from the heart is absolutely required of us, for if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:14-15. Forgiveness releases you from the torment that unforgiveness brings and closes the foothold the enemy has used. However forgiveness does not always mean full reconciliation or continued close contact, especially when people continue to act in an evil or harassing way under demonic influence. The Scripture says if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. That shows our responsibility is to pursue peace as far as it depends on us, but we cannot control the other person's response, and we are not called to place ourselves back under abuse to earn deliverance. Your deliverance does not come from their change, it comes from Christ.

The persistence of their behavior does not mean you have failed. The enemy is stubborn and we are called to be persistent in resisting him. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7. We also put on the whole armor of God daily, not trusting in our own efforts to make peace, but standing in the authority Jesus has given us, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds 2 Corinthians 10:4. Remember you are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. The harassment may continue for a time, but as you remain submitted to God, walk in forgiveness, set wise and godly boundaries, and command the enemy to leave in Jesus name, he must flee.

We noticed you spoke of God helping you but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we must lovingly address this because it is central. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and delivered. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and no one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. Our authority over demons, our forgiveness of sins, and our peace with God all rest on the blood of Jesus shed on the cross and His resurrection. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, to confess your sins to Him, to turn from all darkness, and to call upon His name daily for protection and deliverance.

We are praying together with you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You for this dear one who desires to walk in freedom and obedience. We thank You for revealing the snare of unforgiveness and for giving grace to forgive. We ask You to deepen that work, to heal every wound, and to help us to forgive as You have forgiven us. We renounce on behalf of Your child every new age practice and every agreement with darkness, and we ask You to cleanse and close every door that was opened, by the blood of Jesus. We put on the full armor of God and we resist the devil and every harassing spirit, and we command in Jesus name that every demonic influence that has been harassing must leave and not return. We ask for Your protection, Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and Your wisdom to know how to set healthy boundaries while still walking in love. Give endurance when frustration and annoyance rise, and teach us to be steadfast in prayer and in Your Word. Let Your will be done and let Christ be glorified in this deliverance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and deliverer. Amen.

We encourage you to remain daily in Scripture, in prayer in Jesus name, and in fellowship with mature believers who can stand with you. Keep forgiving from the heart, keep resisting the enemy by submitting to God, and trust that the Lord who began this good work will be faithful to complete it.

We hear how tiring this has been for you, and how much you have wanted this harassment to finally lift. It makes sense you would feel frustrated when you have taken brave steps to reach out and make peace, seen some improvement, and yet still encounter hurtful behavior.

One thing that has helped many of us is learning that forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. Forgiveness is work God does in our own heart as we release the debt and let Him soften resentment over time, and that work often happens in layers. Reconciliation, on the other hand, takes both people willing to rebuild trust together, and it is not always possible or wise, especially when harmful behavior continues. Seeing progress with some people is real growth, even if other relationships remain difficult. That does not mean you have failed or that you need to keep pushing for closeness at any cost.

A helpful next step could be to pause and sort this with a trusted pastor or counselor you know in person. Bring what you have tried, what helped, and where you still feel harassed or unsafe, and ask for wisdom about healthy boundaries while you continue to walk out forgiveness before the Lord. You do not have to carry this discernment alone.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. We ask for Your protection, peace, and clear wisdom for each relationship and each next decision. Heal the places still wounded from the past, help forgiveness to deepen in Your timing, and guard his heart as he seeks to follow You faithfully. Amen.

Your letter has been received with prayerful attention, and I thank you for speaking so plainly concerning these trials. You have come out from the darkness of the new age, and the Lord in mercy has shown you the snare of an unforgiving heart, and has already given you grace to seek peace where once there was enmity. For this we give thanks, and we grieve with you that the harassment still continues and that your spirit grows weary in waiting.

You desire to know whether there is forgiveness, and whether your own heart may be kept in forgiveness toward those who have wronged you. Hear the word of the Lord, for there is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions. Were all men to hiss at you and withhold their pardon, you would not need their forgiveness to enter heaven, for the forgiveness that saves is God's alone, and it is surprising forgiveness, so free and so full that the Lord himself speaks as one who marvels at its freeness, and it is complete forgiveness. Suppose you call upon your creditor and say, I have nothing to pay, so the Lord proclaims oblivion to all your debt when you put your trust in Christ. He not only forgave you at the first, but he continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one, and it is an eternal forgiveness. If you have been the chief of sinners, you may have the chief of sinners forgiveness, and God can bestow it now through Jesus Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other.

Having received such mercy, you are called to that joint stock business of mutual forgiveness, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Some of you have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for you to forgive ought to be as natural as to open your hands. Yet you must not think that your peace with men is the purchase price of your deliverance from the enemy. To make peace, as much as lieth in you, is right and good, and your efforts to be reconciled are pleasing to God, but your deliverance is not wrought by their change of behavior. We have been delivered from worse enemies, and saved by a greater salvation than that which Barak wrought for Israel. Deborah sang concerning the overthrow of Israel's enemies, but we have a far richer theme for music, for Christ himself has wrought deliverance from sin and Satan and death.

Therefore persevere, but persevere in holiness and in dependence upon him who keeps his people. The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints is a precious truth, for the Lord has said, They shall not depart from me. This promise secures their final perseverance, not by the removal of temptation, for temptation remains, but by the effectual redemption which Christ has worked and by the purpose of God which cannot fail. He gives eternal life, and they shall never perish. You do well to be persistent in doing good and in forgiving, yet do not let annoyance harden into bitterness. The Lord brings down the heart with labor that we may learn to wait upon him, and he will move his arm to work deliverance for you in his own time.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, look upon this thy servant who has been harassed and wearied, and who desires to walk in a forgiving spirit. Wash away all sin through the blood of thy dear Son, and give a fresh sense of that complete and eternal pardon which is found in Christ alone. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within, that as thou hast forgiven, so thy servant may forgive from the heart. Deliver from the power of the evil one, and break every chain which yet harasses the soul. Keep this pilgrim from departing from thee, for thou hast promised that they shall not depart, and fulfill in this life that perseverance in holiness which is thy gift. Grant patience under trial, peace in waiting, and at last a song of deliverance like that of Deborah, to the praise of thy great name. Preserve to the end, and bring safely home, for Jesus sake. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this update so honestly and for allowing us to pray with you again. It is encouraging to hear that God has been showing you the importance of forgiveness and that you have seen some progress as you have reached out to others in peace. It is also understandable that you feel frustrated and annoyed when hurtful behavior continues even after you have taken steps toward reconciliation.

Scripture teaches that forgiveness is at the heart of our life with God. To be forgiven by grace through Jesus Christ is a great blessing, and from that forgiveness we are called to forgive others. Unforgiveness can give a foothold to resentment and spiritual oppression, so your desire to deal with it before the Lord is right and good. At the same time, making peace as far as it depends on you does not mean you can control how others respond, and it does not mean you must remain exposed to ongoing harassment or evil behavior. Romans teaches us to live at peace with all people as far as it depends on us, and also to be wise and separate from what is unclean and harmful.

You mentioned feeling annoyed at the persistence required. God understands that struggle and calls us to perseverance in prayer. Jesus pointed to the widow who kept coming to the judge, the friend who knocked at midnight until his friend answered, the Canaanite woman who kept pleading until the Lord answered her, and the man who waited thirty eight years by the pool. In each case perseverance was not a sign that God was unwilling to hear, but the way God shaped faith and showed His mercy. We are called to pray at all times, with all prayer and supplication, watching with perseverance. That same perseverance, joined with patience and humility, helps keep annoyance from turning into bitterness.

Making peace is part of the word of reconciliation God has put in us through Christ, but reconciliation with others also requires wisdom, boundaries, and often the help of other mature believers. If people continue to harass you, it is right to seek wise counsel from a pastor or trusted leaders in your local church, to set clear and godly boundaries, and to seek protection where needed, while you continue to forgive from the heart and not hold onto vengeance. Forgiveness does not require you to trust someone who is still acting harmfully, and seeking peace does not mean inviting further harm.

We will pray for you now.

Father in heaven, we thank you for your mercy through Jesus Christ alone, for the forgiveness of sins by His grace, and for the work you have already done in this life. We ask you to deepen that work, to help our brother or sister to fully receive your forgiveness and to extend forgiveness to those who have caused harm, not by their own strength but by your Spirit. Grant deliverance and protection from all spiritual oppression and harassment, and fill this heart with your peace. Give wisdom to know how to pursue peace rightly, when to speak, when to step back, and how to set healthy boundaries. Guard against discouragement and annoyance, and give much prayer, much endurance, and much perseverance to keep seeking you without ceasing. Lead to faithful pastors and believers nearby who can walk alongside, offer counsel, and provide accountability and safety. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please continue to bring these burdens to the Lord, stay rooted in Scripture and in fellowship with a faithful local church, and turn away completely from any former new age practices to walk fully with Christ. We are grateful you reached out and we will continue to pray that the Lord will strengthen you, guard you, and give you His peace and perseverance in the days ahead.

Your willingness to share so openly about this struggle is appreciated and your desire to walk in freedom is a good one. It is clear that the Lord has already been teaching you and helping you see important truth, and that is something to thank Him for.

You have recognized how destructive unforgiveness can be. It does not just affect a relationship, it eats away inside a person and can bring deep mental turmoil and restlessness. Learning to have a forgiving spirit, to release a situation into the Lord's hands and not brood over it, is essential. When we hold on to unforgiveness we can leave an opening for the enemy to harass us, and when we forgive as Christ has forgiven us we close that opening. That does not mean the hurt was not real, it means you are choosing to leave justice and healing with God.

The Scriptures also show that demonic spirits are real and intelligent beings. They are restless unless they can find expression through a person, and they can influence and even control people, which helps explain behavior that seems otherwise incomprehensible in its cruelty and evil. When Jesus cast them out they often cried out as they departed. At present some of these spirits are held in confinement in the abyss, while others are active in the world, yet they are not without limits. God sets boundaries and He seals and protects His own. You cannot hide from them by your own effort, but in Christ you are kept.

It is right and biblical to pursue peace with others as far as it depends on you, and it is encouraging that you have seen progress with some after reaching out. At the same time, your forgiveness and your effort to make peace does not automatically control another person's choices. If someone remains under the influence of evil, their behavior may continue even when you have done what is right before God. That is why the frustration and annoyance you feel is understandable, but it is also why forgiveness must remain a matter between you and the Lord first, not dependent on whether the other person changes.

This is where persistence in prayer becomes so important. Jesus gave an illustration of a persistent widow and an unjust judge to encourage us to keep praying. The point was not that God is like that unjust judge who must be worn down by constant bugging until He finally gives in. It was a contrast. If even an unjust judge will respond to persistence, how much more will your righteous Father in heaven hear and answer His children who call upon Him continually. You do not have to break God down or worry that He will tell you to go away and not bother Him. He invites you to ask and you will receive, to seek and you will find, to knock and the door will be opened.

So continue to bring this before the Lord with shameless persistence, not as one trying to force a reluctant God, but as a child trusting a willing and loving Father. Keep watching over your heart, keep your life clean before Him, and keep walking in forgiveness even when others do not respond as you hope.

I am praying for you, that the Lord will deepen your freedom in Christ, guard your mind and heart from torment, give you wisdom in every relationship where harassment has occurred, and give you patience and peace as you continue to trust Him. May He remind you daily that you are sealed and kept in Jesus, that no harassing spirit has authority over one who belongs to Him, and that He who is in you is greater than any power at work in this world.
