We join you in lifting up your grandson before the throne of grace and we thank you for bringing his need to us so we can seek God's will together in Jesus' name.
Our hearts ache with you to see one you love bound by alcohol and now facing the hardship of losing his job. We know this is heavy for you as a grandparent, but we serve a God who is able to deliver and to restore. The Bible warns us about this bondage when it says Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. And it also commands us Ephesians 5:18 Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Drunkenness is sin that enslaves, yet we rejoice that Christ came to set the captives free, for Galatians 5:1 Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don't be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
We want to encourage you that God has not abandoned your grandson and He has not abandoned you. He sees this struggle and He is faithful to provide a way out, as it is written 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. What man cannot break in his own strength, God can break through the power of Jesus Christ, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. We also pray for his provision and purpose after this job loss, trusting Philippians 4:19 My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, and that God will use even this difficult season to draw him to Himself.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and find true deliverance. Jesus Himself said John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Scripture declares Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To be delivered from sin, including the sin of drunkenness, we must repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, for Romans 10:9 If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We pray that your grandson will come to know Jesus as his Savior if he does not already, for only He can break the chains of addiction and give a new heart and a new life.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this precious grandson to You. Lord, You know his struggle with alcohol, You see the pain and the bondage, and You see the discouragement of losing his job. We ask for Your mercy and Your deliverance. Break the yoke of addiction in his life, set him free from the craving and the deception of alcohol, and fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit. Bring him to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus Christ, that he may be made new. Heal his body, renew his mind, and restore his hope. Provide for his needs, open doors for honest work that will give him dignity and purpose, and surround him with godly counsel and believers who will encourage him to walk in sobriety and truth. Give his grandparent peace and strength as they love and pray and do not grow weary, and help them to speak truth in love without enabling sin. Let this trial become a testimony of Your redeeming power. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray without ceasing, to speak to your grandson about the hope that is in Christ, and to encourage him to seek help within a Bible believing church where he can be discipled and held accountable, and to seek practical help for his addiction that honors the Lord. We are standing with you and trusting God for his complete deliverance and restoration.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Your burden for your grandson is heard, and we join you in carrying it before the throne of grace. To see one so dear held fast by strong drink and cast down by the loss of his daily work is a heavy sorrow, yet it is a sorrow which the Lord invites us to pour out before Him in prayer.
There is hope for deliverance, for deliverance is the work of God alone. As Elihu declared, God has found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance from the pit if God had not thought of it, and He has provided it in His Son. The same hand that delivers from the guilt of sin delivers also from the power of sin. We must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for both justification and sanctification, for where we look for the one we must look for the other.
We will pray that the Lord will be pleased to deliver your grandson from this pit, that He will show him his need of Christ and bring him to trust in the ransom which Christ has paid. It is the Lord who must bring him forth, and when He brings forth He does not leave His people empty. Pray that this affliction, this loss of employment and this bondage, may be used by the Lord as a chastening to awaken him, to humble him, and to turn his heart to seek the Lord in truth. Job lost much and yet could say, The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord, and in the end the Lord turned his captivity. So we pray that this time of loss may become the occasion of a far greater gain, even the salvation of his soul and a sober and renewed life.
We pray also for you, that you may have patience as you wait upon the Lord, and that you may continue instant in prayer, bringing the necessities of your household before God. He hears the cry of those who seek Him, and He is able to make His grace effectual where we are helpless.
Let us pray together. O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this young man bound by strong drink and cast down by loss. Deliver him from the power of darkness and translate him into the kingdom of Thy dear Son. Show him the ransom Thou hast found, even Jesus Christ who bore our sins, and grant him repentance and faith. Break the chain that holds him, give him a new heart and a right spirit, and in Thy providence open a door for honest labor that he may walk in newness of life to Thy glory. Sustain his grandmother who loves him and pleads for him, and let her see Thy hand work deliverance, that she may live to declare the works of the Lord. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only hope. Amen.

It is painful to watch one you love be bound by drink and to see him lose his work. Job too knew what it was to lose abundance and standing in a single day, yet his greater trial was whether loss would drive him to blasphemy or to trust. The enemy desires not only to take away outward goods but to use that loss to make the heart curse God, while God allows such trials so that we may learn that loss itself need not injure us. Whether a loss becomes a true loss or even a gain depends on the disposition of the soul.
For this reason I pray not only that God would open a door for work again, for such things are small compared to the soul, but far more that He would grant your grandson deliverance from slavery to alcohol. Wealth and employment are given to be used rightly, not to possess us, and drink in the same way makes a man captive to what should have no rule over him and casts him out of the service of God. True deliverance is to be set free from that captivity and to be brought to serve Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other.
Pray with him and for him that God would give him strength of soul, so that affliction may not crush him but refine him. The blessed Job was able to stand because he had practiced faithfulness before the storm, and when all was taken he said, The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. When we bear suffering with thankfulness and without complaint against God, even bitter things can become a source of blessing. When the soul is weak every burden feels grievous, but when it is strengthened by grace it can despise even great losses for the sake of Christ.
So let us pray together. Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, have mercy on this young man. Forgive his sins, break the chains of drunkenness that bind him, and set him free to walk in soberness and self control. Grant him repentance and faith, heal his body and mind, and give him a willing spirit to seek help and to walk in the counsel of Your people.
