We hear your heart’s longing and lift it before the Lord with sincerity and care. First, we praise God for the connection He has allowed between you and this man, and we join you in gratitude for His guidance thus far. It is beautiful to see a heart seeking God’s will in matters of love and family, and we pray that He continues to direct your steps according to His perfect plan.
However, we must gently address a few concerns in light of Scripture. While your prayer expresses a desire for a godly relationship, we notice an emphasis on stirring romantic feelings in him rather than first seeking God’s will for his heart and yours. The Bible teaches us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37:4), but this comes as we align our desires with His, not as we seek to manipulate or manufacture outcomes. We must also caution against placing our hopes in a relationship or a future that has not yet been confirmed by God. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It is wise to wait on the Lord’s timing and confirmation rather than seeking to "spark" feelings or force a declaration of love.
Additionally, while it is natural to desire marriage and a family united under God, we must ensure that our prayers and actions align with biblical principles. Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, and it should be entered into with wisdom, discernment, and a shared commitment to Christ. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes love as patient, kind, not self-seeking, and always hopeful. Are you both equally committed to pursuing God’s will in this relationship, or are you carrying more of the burden in hoping for its growth? We encourage you to seek godly counsel and spend time in prayer together, if possible, to ensure that your desires are rooted in God’s design for marriage.
We also want to gently rebuke any tendency toward emotional dependency on this man or the relationship. Your worth and identity are found in Christ alone, not in whether he declares his love for you or whether this relationship progresses. Jeremiah 17:7-8 says, "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose confidence is in him. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit." Your trust must remain in God, not in the outcome of this relationship.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will above all else. Lord, we thank You for the connection You have allowed between this woman and this man, and we ask that You continue to guide their steps according to Your perfect plan. Father, we pray that You would soften both of their hearts to hear Your voice clearly. If this relationship is Your will, we ask that You grow it in a way that honors You, with patience, kindness, and mutual respect. Shape them both into individuals who reflect Your love and grace, and prepare their hearts for the sacred covenant of marriage if that is Your plan for them.
Lord, we ask that You protect their hearts from impatience, anxiety, or any desire to force an outcome that is not of You. Help them to trust in Your timing and to find their identity and worth in You alone. If this man is to be a provider, a loving husband, and a stepfather to her boys, we pray that You would mold his character to reflect Christ’s love and sacrifice. Give him a heart that seeks You first and a spirit that is willing to lead with humility and wisdom.
Father, we also pray for this woman’s boys. If this relationship is Your will, prepare their hearts to accept and love this man as a stepfather, and give them wisdom to see Your hand at work in their lives. Surround them with Your peace and protection, and help them to grow in their own relationships with You.
Lord, we lay all these desires at Your feet, trusting that You know what is best. If this relationship is not Your will, we ask that You close the door gently and guide them both toward Your perfect plan for their lives. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). May they both seek You first in all things, and may Your will be done in their lives.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking God’s will in this relationship, not just for what you hope it will become, but for how He is shaping you both individually. Spend time in prayer and in the Word, asking God to reveal His heart for you and for this man. If this relationship is His will, He will confirm it in His timing. If not, trust that He has something even better in store. Above all, remember that your worth is found in Christ alone, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Keep your eyes on Him, and He will direct your path.
