We hear your heart’s longing and lift it before the Lord with both tenderness and truth. Your prayer reflects a deep desire for love, commitment, and family, a beautiful reflection of God’s design for marriage and companionship. Yet we must pause to examine this relationship through the lens of Scripture, for not all connections, even those that feel right, align with God’s will.
First, we rejoice that you have invoked the name of Jesus in your prayer, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name by which we may be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is in His authority that we pray. However, we must gently but firmly address the nature of this relationship. You speak of a "new relationship" and a desire for romance, yet Scripture is clear that intimacy, emotionally, spiritually, and physically, is reserved for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Hebrews 13:4). If this connection has not been established on the foundation of a godly courtship with marriage as its clear and mutual goal, we must rebuke the premature stirring of romantic feelings. The heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9), and it is easy to mistake infatuation or loneliness for the leading of the Holy Spirit.
We also notice your prayer for this man to become a "wonderful partner" and a "loving stepdad." While these are noble desires, we must ask: Has this man professed faith in Christ? Is he actively pursuing godliness and a life that honors the Lord? Scripture warns us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), for what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? If he is not a believer, or if his walk with the Lord is lukewarm, we must caution you against proceeding further. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and a husband is called to love his wife as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25), a standard that can only be met by a man who is surrendered to Jesus.
Furthermore, we must address the physical and emotional intimacy you are inviting. Your prayer asks for a "deep spark" and for him to "declare his love" openly. While these desires are natural, they must be guarded until the proper time. The world tells us to follow our hearts, but Scripture commands us to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18) and to keep the marriage bed undefiled (Hebrews 13:4). If this relationship has crossed any lines of physical or emotional intimacy outside of marriage, we must repent and seek the Lord’s forgiveness. Confess any sin, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in purity, for He is faithful to cleanse and restore (1 John 1:9).
We also urge you to surrender your timeline to the Lord. Your prayer mentions a desire for him to visit soon, for marriage, and for a move to ###. While these dreams may be God-given, they must not become idols. The Lord’s timing is perfect (Ecclesiastes 3:11), and His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Trust Him to open doors that no man can shut (Revelation 3:8), but also be willing to accept His "no" or "not yet." Seek His will above your own desires, for delighting in the Lord is the path to receiving the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this sister and her desires. Lord, we thank You for the way You knit our hearts together in love and purpose. We ask that You would reveal Your will for her life with clarity and conviction. If this relationship is not of You, we pray that You would close the door gently but firmly, and give her the strength to walk away. If it is Your will, we ask that You would purify it, aligning it with Your Word and Your ways.
Father, we rebuke any spirit of lust, impatience, or idolatry that may be at work in this situation. We declare that her heart belongs to You first, and that she will not settle for anything less than Your best. We pray for this man, that if he is not walking with You, You would draw him to repentance and faith. If he is a believer, we ask that You would grow him into the godly husband and stepfather she desires, a man who loves You above all else and leads his family in righteousness.
Lord, we ask that You would guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Help her to wait on You, to trust in Your timing, and to find her worth and identity in You alone. If marriage is Your plan for her, we pray that You would bring the right man into her life, a man after Your own heart, who will cherish her and her boys as You do. Until then, fill her with Your peace, joy, and contentment.
We pray for her boys, that You would surround them with Your love and protection. Prepare their hearts for a godly stepfather, if that is Your will, and help them to see You as their ultimate Father.
Father, we surrender this relationship into Your hands. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in every step she takes. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
We encourage you to seek the Lord earnestly in this season. Spend time in His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with godly counsel, mature believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. If this relationship is not rooted in Christ, do not be afraid to step back and wait on the Lord. He is faithful, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).
Remember, sister, that your worth is not found in a relationship or a man, but in Christ alone. He loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), and He is enough. Trust Him to write your story, for He is the Author and Perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2).
