Friend's mother

Your tender and faithful intercession for your friend and her mother has been received with gratitude, and we join you in bringing them both before the throne of grace.

It is a precious thing to see such loving care, a daughter herself acquainted with infirmity yet serving her mother without complaining. Human strength, as the Scripture reminds us, will spend itself in due time, for all strength apart from God is derived and measurable and must at last come to an end. Yet the promise stands, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. When our own strength fails, our strength is to sit still and wait upon Him who increases strength to them that have no might. We pray that both mother and daughter may know this renewing, that as they wait upon the Lord their spiritual and bodily strength may be upheld by His inexhaustible omnipotence.

We are reminded also that there is abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing virtue. The same hand that touched Peter's wife's mother when she lay sick of a fever, and lifted her up so that her fever left her, is still full of compassion today. Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction, and when the Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings, He brings both pardon and restoration. With men this may seem impossible, but with God all things are possible.

Let us pray together.

O Lord Jesus, great Physician, we beseech Thee to look in mercy upon this dear mother who suffers pain and difficulty in breathing. Thou knowest her frame and her affliction, and no sigh is hidden from Thee. Stretch out Thy hand to heal according to Thy perfect will, ease her pain, open her breath, and grant relief and recovery as it shall please Thee. And for her daughter who so faithfully cares for her, we ask that Thou wilt strengthen her in the Lord. Thou hast said, I will strengthen them in the Lord, and Thou alone canst wisely and fitly infuse strength where weakness has long abided. Sustain her day by day, renew her heart in patience and love, and give them both to taste the healing leaves of Christ and to trust wholly in Thy goodness.

We leave them in Thy tender hands, asking that whether by restored health or by sustaining grace, Thy name may be glorified and their hearts comforted in Christ. Amen.

Your request for ### and her mother has been heard, and I join you in lifting them both before the Lord with thanksgiving for the love you have shown in interceding for them.

It is a holy thing to see a daughter care for her mother in pain and weakness without complaining, even while she herself bears her own health burdens. Christ says, take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. The burden of caregiving and of illness can feel very heavy, yet when it is taken up in love for Christ, He makes it light and gives rest to the soul even in the midst of weariness. Your friend's quiet faithfulness is a living example of this.

We know that suffering in this life is real, and pain and labored breathing are a deep affliction. Scripture likens such sorrow to travail pains which lay hold for a season, but the joy which follows is lasting. Our present labors and tears, when offered to God, become seeds of great joy and rest, for God does not waste our afflictions but uses them to draw us closer to Himself and to prepare us for the endless rest He has promised. We are to grieve with a grief that leads to joy, and to labor a little time here in love, looking to His mercy.

Let us pray together.

Lord Jesus, you see this dear mother in her ill health, her pain and her struggle to breathe, and you see her daughter who serves her so faithfully. With you all things are possible. We ask you in your mercy to stretch out your hand to heal as seems good in your wisdom. Grant relief from pain, ease her breathing, restore strength to her body if it be your will, and grant her your peace and presence in every moment of suffering. Sustain her daughter, who gives of herself without complaint while carrying her own infirmities. Renew her strength daily, give her rest for her soul, comfort her heart, and let her feel your nearness and your approval for her sacrificial love. Help them both to trust you, whether healing comes quickly or through patient endurance, knowing that you reward every work of love and that you will not forsake those who look to you.

Continue to stand with them in prayer and in practical kindness, and trust that the Lord hears the prayers offered in His name and will answer according to His perfect love and power.

Thank you for sharing this burden on your heart and for your love for your friend and her mother. It is a beautiful testimony that your friend continues to care for her mother faithfully and without complaining, even while carrying her own health struggles. The Lord sees that quiet, sacrificial love and He honors it.

We join you in bringing this mother before the Lord Jesus. We know He has compassion for those who suffer in body, with pain and difficulty breathing, and that He has power over sickness. Scripture tells us that He bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses, as Isaiah prophesied and Matthew affirmed when Jesus healed Peter's mother in law of her fever and healed many others who were brought to Him. That same Jesus is able today, and we believe healing is still in His hands. With God all things are possible, and no need is too great for Him to touch.

We also want to encourage your friend in her weariness. Jesus invites all who labor and are heavy laden to come to Him for rest. He said His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Often we take on heavy loads ourselves or let others lay them on us, and we are tempted to call every heavy weight the burden of the Lord, but His way is not to crush us. His burden is to do the will of the Father, which is light because it is carried in His strength and love. To live trying only to please ourselves or to carry everything in our own strength is heavy and brings unrest, but to live to please God and to lean on Him brings rest even in hard caregiving.

So we pray that the Lord will stretch out His hand to heal this dear mother according to His mercy and will, that He will ease her pain and help her breathe freely, and that He will give comfort and strength to your friend as she cares for her. May He lift the heaviness she feels and give her daily rest and renewal as she waits on Him.

Father, in the name of Jesus we lift this mother to You. You know her pain and her struggle for breath. Have mercy and bring healing and relief as You will. We ask that You touch her body and bring peace to her. And we ask that You strengthen her daughter, refresh her, and let her feel Your easy yoke and light burden as she serves with love. Help them both to rest in Your care and to trust Your goodness. Amen.
