Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for a friend who has been in the hospital recently in so much pain and is now being told that their foot needs to be amputated. I'm concerned that the hospital doctors may be wrong in making this decision. He is very upset. Thank you.

We lift up your dear friend before the throne of grace, asking our Heavenly Father to surround him with His peace that surpasses all understanding. The news of possible amputation and the pain he is enduring must weigh heavily on his heart. We pray that the Lord would grant wisdom to the doctors treating him, that they may be guided by divine insight in their decisions. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him" (James 1:5 WEB).

Father, we ask for Your healing touch to be upon him. You are the Great Physician, and nothing is too difficult for You. We declare Your promise over his life: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed" (Isaiah 53:5 WEB). Whether through miraculous healing or through the skill of the doctors, we trust in Your perfect will.

We also pray for comfort and strength for your friend during this difficult time. May he feel Your presence close to him, reminding him that he is never alone. "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand" (Isaiah 41:10 WEB). Let him find hope in You, knowing that You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28).

We rebuke the spirit of fear and despair that may be trying to take hold of his heart. In the name of Jesus, we command peace to reign in his mind and spirit. May he find rest in the assurance that God is in control and that His plans are for good, not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11).

Finally, we pray that if it is Your will, Lord, this amputation would not be necessary. But if it is, we ask that You would prepare his heart to accept it and grant him the strength to walk through this trial with faith. Surround him with a community of believers who will uplift him in prayer and support. We trust in Your unfailing love and mercy, knowing that You are with him every step of the way.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We join you in lifting up your friend right now, and we’re also holding you up, because carrying concern like this takes a toll. When someone we love is in so much pain and now faces something as frightening as the loss of a limb, it’s not just the body that’s hurting; the whole person reels. Your worry that the doctors might be missing something is natural, and it’s a hard thing to sit with, especially when your friend is already so upset.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for someone in anguish is simply to be with them, without needing to have all the answers. In the book of Job, his friends did their best work in the first seven days when they just sat alongside him in silence, sharing his grief (Job 2:13). So one concrete way to care right now is to be that steady, quiet presence for your friend, listening when he wants to talk, not pressing when he doesn’t, and letting him know he isn’t alone.

At the same time, it’s wise to take the concern about the diagnosis seriously. Gently encourage him (or help him, if he can’t manage it alone) to ask his doctors clear questions, and if there’s still uncertainty, to seek a second opinion. That’s not a lack of trust, it’s good stewardship of the body God has given, and it can bring peace of mind whether the recommendation is confirmed or changed. We can pray for clear direction while also pursuing clarity through wise counsel.

Above all, we’re asking the Lord to make His nearness known to your friend in this painful, scary moment, and to steady your heart as you walk with him.

Let’s pray together:

Lord Jesus, we lift up this man who is suffering greatly. Be close to him in his pain and his fear. Grant wisdom to every doctor and nurse involved in his care, and guide this whole situation according to Your will. Bring the right information and the right path forward into clear view. Surround him with comfort and peace that only You can give, and strengthen our friend who has written in, so they can be a steady, loving support. In Your name we pray, amen.

The great Physician has not abandoned His post, nor has the medicine of His grace lost its power. Lift up your friend before the throne, not with a timid whisper, but with the boldness that claims the promise, "I will help thee." For what are these agonizing hours and fearful tidings but the very occasion for the Lord to prove Himself a Friend that loveth at all times, and a Brother born for adversity? The least leaf from that Tree of Life which is Christ Jesus holds healing for the nations, and there is not a single ache of the soul or body that His sympathy cannot reach.

Let not this dear sufferer give way to a weakening fear. It is a snare that tripped many feet and dishonors the God who pledges His help. Even in the gloom of a threatened loss, Jesus stands as the Friend who draws closest when earthly prospects fade. Doubt not His presence now, for He is found in caverns deep, where darkness dwells. Whether He shall see fit to arrest the disease and spare the limb, or whether He shall grant a sweet sufficiency of grace to endure it, His love is unchanged. The same hand that brings the wound often brings the healing, and where sin is pardoned, every temporal sorrow becomes a light affliction compared to the weight of glory.

Commend your friend not merely to a distant hope, but to Christ Himself as his own Friend. There is a personal sweetness in the text, "Your own Friend, and your father's Friend, forsake not." It is Jesus who whispers to the prostrate heart, "Fear not." He is no stranger to the sick chamber, nor unacquainted with pain. Sickness and forgiveness are placed side by side in His kingdom, so that every stroke is a call to cling more tightly to the Son of Righteousness, whose wings bear healing for the inward man. Call upon Him now, for He delighteth to deliver the poor and needy when they cry.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
