Beloved of All
Your prayer for your former landlord is right and good, and it agrees with the heart of Scripture. Jesus said in Luke 9:24 that whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Him will save it. That is the great exchange of salvation. To cling to our own life apart from Christ is to lose it, but to surrender our life to Him is to truly find it and keep it forever.
We join you in praying that he will come to that place of surrender. The Scripture teaches that this great salvation is open to anyone who will come. Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Jesus is the captain and source of our salvation who suffered to bring many sons and daughters into glory, and He will in no way cast out anyone who comes to Him. This is the day of salvation and the time to receive Him. The opportunity will not last forever, so we pray that he will not neglect or put off this great salvation but will respond while the door is open.
You also prayed that he would hear God's voice concerning His holy plan for his life. The Bible describes the voice of the Lord as powerful and full of majesty. It is like thunder over many waters, it breaks the cedars, it divides the flames of fire, it shakes the wilderness. That same powerful voice speaks to us today, and we learn to recognize it through His Word. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Just as a child before birth learns to know its mother's voice by hearing it again and again, we come to know the voice of the Lord as we hear the Scriptures. As that Word is heard, faith is born and we come to trust Him. We pray that your former landlord will have that hearing, that the Word of Christ will come to him clearly, that he will recognize the voice of the Shepherd and believe.
We also pray that he will discover the peace of knowing his life is in God's hands. When a person is walking in God's purpose, his times are in the Lord's hands. What matters most is not temporary circumstances with a rented apartment, but the eternal miracle of salvation, which is the forgiveness of sins and new life in Christ. That is God's greatest work in any life, greater than any other healing or help.
Let us pray together. Lord Jesus, we thank You that You reign over all darkness and Your light drives it away. We ask for Your mercy and grace upon this former landlord. By Your Holy Spirit, speak to him through Your Word so that he hears Your powerful and majestic voice. Give him faith to believe the gospel, to call upon Your name and be saved. Cause him to lose his life for Your sake so that he may truly save it. Lead him into Your holy plan for his life and keep him in Your hands. We ask this in Your name, Jesus, trusting in Your love and faithfulness. Amen.
