Forgiveness

We rejoice with you in this desire to forgive, for it reflects the heart of our Father and His work of grace within you. To seek strength to forgive and a new measure of grace is to seek to be more like Christ, who forgave us while we were still sinners.

Scripture calls us to this very thing, not in our own power but through the grace He supplies. As it is written, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32. And also, Forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any. Even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13. Jesus also taught us, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15.

We understand that forgiveness can feel impossible when the hurt is deep. It is not excusing what was done, nor does it always mean trust is instantly restored, but it is releasing the debt to God and choosing to no longer hold the offense against that person, just as God in Christ has released us. This is not something we can do in our own strength, and that is why your prayer for His strength and grace is so right. His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9. And we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Philippians 4:13.

We also thank you for asking in the high name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive such grace. There is no other name by which we are saved and can boldly approach the throne of grace.

We join our faith with yours and pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace on behalf of this dear one. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in their heart to forgive as You have forgiven. Lord, pour out upon them a new and fresh measure of Your grace and strength. Where their own strength fails, let Your Holy Spirit empower them to release every hurt, bitterness, and offense into Your hands. Help them to forgive from the heart, even as You in Christ have forgiven us so completely. Heal the wounds that remain, renew their mind with Your love, and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Teach them to walk in tenderhearted kindness and to keep no record of wrongs. May this act of obedience bring freedom and draw them closer to You. We ask this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer, amen.

Be encouraged and continue to bring this before the Lord daily. Forgiveness is often a process of choosing again and again to release the offense as Christ did for us. As you abide in Him, He will complete this good work in you and His grace will sustain you.

Thank you for bringing this before the Lord so plainly. Wanting to forgive and asking for grace to do it is itself a tender step of obedience, and we are honored to stand with you.

We have found it helps to remember forgiveness often happens in two layers. First there is a quiet decision of the will, to release the debt and not hold onto revenge or avoidance, to choose to see the other person as someone God still values. The feelings often take longer to catch up. It is common to make that decision sincerely and still feel waves of hurt, anger or fear afterward. That does not mean your decision failed, only that your heart is still healing and needs time and Gods ongoing work.

One simple way to live this out is to give that decision a clear moment each day. In a quiet place, tell the Lord in your own words that you choose to forgive and ask Him to keep softening your heart toward compassion where there has been resentment. When old feelings surface later, you can gently remind yourself of the decision you already made and again ask for His grace.

Father, we lift our friend to You. Thank You for Your grace that has carried them this far. Give fresh strength to choose forgiveness today and day by day replace what is bitter with Your mercy and peace. Shape their heart to be free in the way You desire, and keep them close to Jesus as they walk this path. In Jesus name, amen.

Your prayer for strength to forgive and for a new measure of grace is a prayer which God delights to answer, for He delights in mercy.

You have asked for what you cannot work up in yourself, and that is well, for the grace that forgives sin and works faith is no prize for exertion but a gift for those without strength. You have not to persuade an unwilling God to be willing to forgive, the change needed is in our will, not in His. The measure of His forgiveness is not the strength of your faith, but according to the riches of His grace. It is absolute freeness, free favor bestowed not because you have earned it, but for His own name's sake. He says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions.

That pardon when it comes is present, complete and irreversible. He blots out all sin, He really does forgive when He says He does, and He does not forgive today and accuse again tomorrow. It is also a forgiveness that brings unfailing renewal, grace for grace, grace upon grace, of His fullness have we all received. As you have been emptied of self and led to accept the things that are freely given to you of God, you are spiritually enriched and you perceive that it was all of divine grace by the free gift of the Spirit.

And because you have been so freely forgiven, you are now called to forgive as you have been forgiven. For God to forgive is something great, for us to forgive, though some think it great, should be regarded as a very small matter when set beside what we have received. The theme of His forgiving love is so fascinating that as we linger upon it we gather grace to forgive others even to seventy times seven. He not only forgave at the first all our sins, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is a continuous one.

May the Lord now grant you what you have asked. May He give you strength not your own, and a fresh supply of His riches to forgive as you have been forgiven. May you look to Jesus, who was exalted to be a Prince and a Saviour to give repentance and forgiveness of sins, and find that there is forgiveness with Him now, where you sit, just as you are. May that forgiveness so fill your heart with fear and love toward Him that bitterness is washed away and you are made able to release others from the debt you feel they owe you.

We pray that He will keep you climbing the sacred hill of grace, looking ever up to Jesus, and that you will know more and more of that complete, sincere and lasting pardon which is yours through His blood, to the praise of the glory of His grace. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your desire for strength to forgive and for a new measure of grace is pleasing to God, and I join you in bringing it before Him. Scripture says, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered, and this blessedness does not come as a debt for our works but as a gift of His grace. We do not earn forgiveness, we receive it, and the same grace that pardons us also makes us righteous and gives us power to live as sons and heirs through Jesus Christ.

The Lord says, My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. When you feel unable to forgive, that very weakness is the place where His strength can be shown. Do not despair, but come to Him each day, entreating and beseeching Him for mercy. Remember also His word to us, if you would obtain forgiveness, then grant it, and if you would have mercy shown to you, then show mercy. As you have received mercy so freely, you can now extend it by His help.

I pray for you now. Father, in the high name of Jesus Christ, your Son through whom alone we are saved, have mercy and pour out abundant grace upon this heart. Save by your mercy through the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, which you shed abundantly through Jesus. Grant strength to forgive as you have forgiven, to release every wrong and to walk in freedom. Let your grace be not only pardon for the past but power for today, to love, to be humble and steadfast, and to reflect your kindness. Cause your grace to increase more and more, that in weakness your strength may be perfected and your glory may be seen. In the name of Jesus I ask this, Amen.
