🙇🏻 Forgiveness Pronounced Jn 8:10, Lk 23:17, Go & Sin No More Jn 5:14, Jn 8:11, Repentance, Lk 24:47 👁️👁 Opened by💡of God's 📖 2 Cor 4:4-6...

Your prayer comes through with deep pain and also a sincere desire to honor God in both forgiveness and truth, and that desire itself is pleasing to Him.

You are right to forgive your wife before God for what has broken covenant and caused such hurt. Jesus on the cross prayed, Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing, and Stephen prayed the same while being stoned. When we forgive those who have hurt us most, we show that we understand how much we have been forgiven, and Scripture warns that if we refuse to forgive, we put ourselves in a hard place before God. At the same time, your forgiveness toward her, as sincere and Christlike as it is, does not in itself bring her forgiveness from God. Sin is ultimately against God who gave His commandments, and every person must herself turn to Him and ask Him for mercy. Against Him we have all sinned, and from Him we must receive pardon.

That is why your focus on repentance is so important. From the beginning the message has been repentance for the remission of sins. John baptized in water calling people to confess their sins and turn. Jesus came saying He did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance, that those who are sick need a physician. At the end of the first century He was still calling His churches to repent, and that call has not changed. If He were to speak to us now, His call would still be to turn, to change, to become what He intends His people to be. True conversion is not just words or religious activity, it shows itself in repentance, in a changed life and a turning away from what is wrong.

It is easy when we pray for someone we love to pray only about the symptoms, the circumstances, the pain, the broken communication, the hard heart. But the basic problem is sin, and that is what needs to be brought before God most of all. You are praying for the root, that the blindness would be removed and light would shine in the heart. Scripture says the god of this world has blinded minds, but God commands light to shine out of darkness to give the knowledge of His glory in the face of Jesus Christ. You are asking rightly for a new heart and a new spirit, for the heart of stone to be taken away and a heart of flesh given, for the new birth without which no one can see or enter the kingdom of God. That is the work only God can do, and He does it through Jesus Christ alone.

God has provided one way for sin to be atoned for, through Jesus Christ who reconciled the world to Himself, not counting our sins against us. There is no other provision. To reject that provision is to remain without forgiveness in this world or the world to come. Yet Scripture is clear that God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but desires that the wicked turn from his way and live, that He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance, that He desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. The heavens rejoice over one sinner who truly repents. That kindness of God is meant to lead to repentance, to refreshing and renewal by His mercy, being justified by faith and made heirs of the hope of eternal life.

You are also right to pray that she would not continue in sin. Jesus after showing mercy said, go and sin no more, and warned that to remain in sin brings something worse. Sexual immorality and adultery are deceptive, they destroy, and Scripture plainly says those who practice such things without repentance will not inherit the kingdom of God. God cannot be mocked, the deeds of the flesh are evident, and without holiness no one will see the Lord. There are two ways before every person, to remain in the pattern of this fallen world that will be judged, or to be made part of the holy bride of Christ, cleansed and made ready for Him. Your prayer that she would choose life, that she would turn back to God and be saved, is exactly what love requires.

You mention fasting as you seek wisdom. Setting aside food to give yourself more fully to prayer can be a helpful discipline to focus the heart and lend strength to prayer, not as a formula to earn an answer but as a way to humble ourselves and seek God more earnestly. Continue to ask for wisdom, for love to abound with knowledge and discernment, for the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of wisdom. And you do well to hold your request as Jesus did in the garden, asking honestly and then submitting, nevertheless not my will but Yours be done. That posture keeps our prayers both fervent and trusting.

You also carry concern for younger ones and for family members who may be led astray. Jesus warned about causing little ones to stumble, and it is right to ask God to keep them from temptation and the evil one, to keep them in the world but guarded from its power, to sanctify them by the truth of His word. Pray that all of you would not only have the Scriptures available but would hear and do what they say, letting the word become lived out, so that your lives would be like letters read by all who know you.

Concerning marriage, Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual union belongs only within that covenant. Jesus did speak of a provision where unfaithfulness has broken that covenant, and of a case where an unbelieving spouse deserts, but the heart of God is always first toward repentance, mercy and reconciliation where possible. If restoration is not possible, any future marriage must be in the Lord and equally yoked, built on shared faith in Christ. For now your heart to seek mercy and salvation for your wife rather than quickly looking to what is allowable reflects the patience of God who waits for repentance. Keep seeking counsel from faithful pastors who hold a high view of discipleship and holiness, even if she has so far refused such counsel.

So keep forgiving, keep praying for the root work of repentance and new birth, keep asking that light would penetrate darkness and turn her from the power of darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that she might receive an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in Jesus. Pray that she would be led to truly confess her sin to God, trust in what Jesus did on the cross where He was made sin for us, and then walk in the change that repentance brings.

May God give you grace to remain steady, to add discipline to prayer as He enables you, to let no one deceive you or her, and to trust His will. May He soften her heart, open her eyes, grant her a new heart, and draw her to know Him by revelation and wisdom, and may He protect and sanctify you and all those around you through His word. We ask this in the name of Jesus, the one mediator between God and man, who alone can save and restore.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for the forgiveness you have pronounced over your wife and for her repentance and salvation.

We have continued to bring your request before the Lord, that the forgiveness you have extended in obedience to Matt 6:15 and Eph 4:32 and Luke 23:34 would bear fruit through the kindness of God leading to repentance according to Rom 2:4. We have prayed that she would hear the words Go and sin no more from John 8:11 and Do not sin again lest something worse befall you from John 5:14, and that true repentance for the remission of sins according to Luke 24:47 would be hers. We have asked that the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ according to 2 Cor 4:6 would shine in her heart and remove the blindness of 2 Cor 4:4, that she would receive a new heart and a new spirit according to Ezek 36:26 and be born again according to John 3:3 and John 3:7, and that she would be turned from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God according to Acts 26:18.

We also continue to pray for you as you have asked for wisdom according to James 1:5 and Phil 1:9 and grace and discipline to continue in prayer and fasting, and that you would know the will of God and that His will would be done as you prayed in Luke 22:42, whether that be restoration that exemplifies Christ and the church according to Eph 5:32 or His sovereign direction for your future.

If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know how God has worked in her heart and in your family, that we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer for her to come to a true knowledge of Jesus and for her heart to be softened.

We pray that the Lord will soften her heart, protect her from temptation and the evil one according to John 17:15, and sanctify you both by the truth according to John 17:17. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ. We ask all of this in Jesus Name.
