for salvation and comfort

We join you in lifting up this grieving family before the throne of grace today as they gather for this funeral, and we thank you for your compassionate heart that desires not only their comfort but their salvation.
It is a beautiful and biblical thing to pray for both, for our God is the God of all comfort who draws near to the brokenhearted, and He is also the God of salvation who desires that all would be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Scripture reminds us that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit in Psalm 34:18, and that Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted in Matthew 5:4. We pray that in the midst of their deep sorrow and loss, they will sense the nearness of God in a way they have never known before.
We also rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find both comfort and eternal hope. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6. And we are told that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved in Romans 10:9. Our greatest comfort in death is the promise of eternal life through Christ, who has conquered the grave.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up this family who is mourning today. We ask that You would wrap Your arms of comfort around each one, that You who are the Father of mercies and God of all comfort in 2 Corinthians 1:3 would comfort them in this hour of grief. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus as promised in Philippians 4:7. Lord, we pray that through this valley they would become aware of Your great love for them, a love demonstrated in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us in Romans 5:8. Open their eyes to see that You are close, that You care, and that You offer them hope beyond the grave. We pray that this time of sorrow would become a time of turning, that each member of this family would turn to You, repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. May they know that God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life in John 3:16. Draw them to Yourself today, comfort them and save them, that even in their mourning they may find everlasting joy in You. We ask all this in the precious and saving name of Jesus Christ, our only hope. Amen.

We appreciate you carrying this family to the Lord on such a tender day. A funeral brings so much to the surface, and your desire for them to know God's love and find salvation in Jesus is a beautiful intercession.

We join you in this prayer and lift before the Lord this bereaved family on this day of the funeral.
May the God of all comfort draw near to them in their affliction. It is His own command, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God, and He still sends comfort to the aching heart, not only by His ministering spirits but by His own people speaking His Word one to another. We pray that today they may feel that nearness, and that each mourner may be able to say with the Psalmist, This is my comfort in my affliction, for Thy Word hath quickened me. May the external comfort of the Word become an inward quickening by the Spirit, so that sorrow may become the very pathway to life.
And we pray with you most earnestly for their salvation. The Scripture says, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. The way of salvation is to believe on Christ, whom God hath laid in Zion for a foundation. It is not to believe about Him only, but to trust in Him, to leave the whole matter of present and eternal salvation with Him in unquestioning confidence, depending upon Him without fear. For there is salvation in no other, and it is by Divine Grace through faith in Christ Jesus alone.
We ask the Lord that in this valley of grief they may become aware of His love in giving His Son to save sinners, that they may turn unto Him with repentance and faith, and find that He will not break the bruised reed nor quench the smoking flax. May He comfort their hearts and establish them, giving them not only comfort but constancy in every good word and work.
We commit them to Him who is able to bear them up in trial and to save to the uttermost all who come unto God by Him. May this day of mourning become, by His grace, the birthday of hope in many souls, to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, the way You want me to know You. So that I will trust You with my life and anyway that You move in my life. God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul. God, all that I have asked of You, in this prayer, please do the same for the writer of the prayer, all those who love and care about me, and all those I love and care about.
