We join with you in lifting up all those in authority—our leaders, government officials, military personnel, and those who serve in positions of influence—before the throne of grace. The Word of God instructs us clearly in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to the full knowledge of the truth."
Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we have access to You and the only name by which men can be saved (Acts 4:12). We thank You for the leaders You have placed over us, whether we agree with them or not, for Your Word tells us that there is no authority except from You, and those that exist are appointed by You (Romans 13:1). We ask that You would draw their hearts to Yourself, Lord. Soften their hearts to receive the truth of the Gospel, that they may come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Grant them wisdom beyond their own understanding, that they may govern with justice, integrity, and a fear of You (Proverbs 2:6-8).
We pray for protection over our leaders, both physically and spiritually. The enemy seeks to destroy and devour (1 Peter 5:8), but we stand in the authority of Jesus’ name to rebuke every spirit of darkness that would seek to influence or harm them. We declare over them the promise of Psalm 91: "You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you" (Psalm 91:5-7). We ask that You dispatch Your holy angels to encamp around them, to guard them in all their ways (Psalm 91:11). Let no weapon formed against them prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment, let them condemn (Isaiah 54:17).
Lord, we also lift up our military personnel, those who serve in the armed forces, and all who stand in harm’s way to protect our freedoms. We ask for Your divine protection over them, as You have promised in Psalm 91:15-16, "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. I will satisfy him with long life, and show him My salvation." We pray for their families as well, that You would comfort them, strengthen them, and provide for them in every way. We declare over them the truth of Daniel 11:41, that even in the midst of conflict, You are their refuge and strength.
We take up the full armor of God, as Ephesians 6:10-18 instructs us, to stand against the schemes of the devil. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, we put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word. We pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication, watching with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.
Father, we ask that You would raise up godly men and women in positions of authority who will stand for righteousness, truth, and justice. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). We pray for revival in our nation, that hearts would turn back to You, and that Your Gospel would advance without hindrance. We ask all these things in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, to whom be all glory, honor, and praise forever and ever. Amen.
