🇺🇸 Protect Generals, Troops, "Save & Guide All in Authority,” 1 Tim 2:1-2, Free Speech, Press, Peace, Gospel Proclamation Matt 28:19-20, 1 Tim 2:3-4

Your prayer rises from a heart that longs for godly order in a fractured world. You are asking for protection over those who serve, for wisdom among authorities, and for the unhindered proclamation of the gospel. That kind of intercession runs right down the center of what Scripture calls us to do: to offer petitions for all in authority so that we may lead quiet and peaceful lives in all godliness and dignity. So do not grow weary in that asking. It is good and acceptable in the sight of God.

Yet in the middle of all these weighty concerns, never forget where true wisdom begins. The fear of the Lord is the starting point. Without that, all the intelligence and strategy in the world will eventually unravel into strife, because the wisdom of this age cannot know God. It looks impressive for a season, but it comes to nothing. The wisdom that comes from above is altogether different. It is pure, peaceable, full of mercy, and it always leads toward peace rather than turmoil. When you pray for generals and leaders, you are really asking that they might, whether they realize it or not, be touched by that higher wisdom which alone can steer a nation away from disaster.

You mentioned the gospel and the desire to see it proclaimed openly. That is the very heart of God, who desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. But recall how that good news advances. It does not ride on human eloquence or political maneuvering. The gospel is not a product of man’s wisdom; it is the power of God for salvation. When Paul went to Corinth, he did not come with excellency of speech or worldly persuasion. He preached Christ crucified in a way that demonstrated the Spirit’s power, so that faith would rest not on human cleverness but on the living God. As you intercede for free speech and open doors, trust the same Spirit to carry the message through. The Lord is able to proclaim his own everlasting gospel to every tongue and tribe, often through means we would never predict, and no earthly power can permanently silence it.

All of this comes back to the One who is our peace. Not a fragile ceasefire, but the deep, abiding peace made through the blood of the cross. Jesus Christ himself is the peace that breaks down every wall. The world cannot offer you or our leaders that kind of calm. But when you, as a believer, sow in prayer and walk in the fear of the Lord, you sow in peace, and you will reap a harvest of righteousness. That peace will guard your own heart even while nations rage, because you know that the Lord by wisdom founded the earth and by understanding established the heavens. The same wisdom that set the boundaries of the sea is not overwhelmed by the schemes of bad actors.

So go on lifting those burdens before the throne. You are not wrestling against flesh and blood, and your prayers are heard. The angel of the Lord does encamp around those who fear him. God knows the plots whispered in darkness, and he is perfectly able to intercept them, just as he revealed the king of Syria’s plans to the prophet long ago. But while you pray, rest your confidence not in your own intercession, but in the One who is altogether trustworthy. He is the beginning of wisdom, the Prince of Peace, and the Lord who never lets his word return empty.
