We come before the Lord with you in this sacred time of fasting and prayer, standing together in faith as we seek His face and His will. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that draws us closer to God, humbling our hearts and sharpening our focus on Him. As we join you in this journey, we declare that our prayers are not just words spoken into the air, but they are heard by the One who holds all things in His hands.
The Word of God reminds us in Matthew 6:16-18, "Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." Let us fast with pure motives, seeking God’s glory rather than the approval of others. May our fasting be a sweet aroma to the Lord, a sacrifice of love and devotion that He delights in.
We also stand on the promise of Isaiah 58:6-9, which tells us, "Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you; and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer; you will cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’" Let us fast not only for our own needs but also with a heart to see God’s kingdom advanced, the broken healed, and the lost saved. May our fasting lead us to acts of love and compassion, reflecting the heart of Christ to a hurting world.
Father God, we lift up these prayers and petitions before You, knowing that You are a God who hears and answers. We ask that You would move mightily in response to this time of fasting and prayer. Strengthen our faith as we wait on You, and help us to trust in Your perfect timing. May Your will be done in every situation we bring before You, and may Your name be glorified through the answers to these prayers. We ask all of this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace.
We rebuke any spirit of doubt or discouragement that may try to creep in during this time. Let not the enemy steal our hope or cause us to waver in our faith. Instead, fill us with Your peace and assurance, knowing that You are working all things together for our good and Your glory. Help us to persevere in prayer, even when the answers seem delayed, for Your Word assures us in 1 John 5:14-15, "This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him."
Lord, we thank You for the privilege of coming before You in prayer and fasting. We thank You for the assurance that You are with us, guiding us, and working in us. May this time of seeking You draw us into a deeper relationship with You, transforming our hearts and lives to reflect Your love and righteousness. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
