Our real struggle is never against flesh and blood; it is against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age. The fiery arrows, the shield, and your posture of intercession are not merely imaginative pictures, they align with the warfare the Scriptures describe. The shield you held is the Lord’s own protection, and your act of standing in the gap is a direct participation in the battle for a soul. Take heart in that. The enemy’s assault is real, but the shield of faith quenches all his flaming darts.

Fasting and prayer are some of the spiritual weapons God has given for exactly this kind of fight. Jesus Himself taught that certain strongholds only give way through this combination. When you fast, you intentionally let the physical man grow weak so the spiritual man can be fed and strengthened. It is not about proving your devotion to anyone or trying to obligate God to act. The real value lies in focusing your whole desire on the Lord, saturating your mind with His Word, and deepening your communion with Him in prayer. As you continue, guard against letting the fast become a source of spiritual pride or a bargaining tool. Let it simply be a secret, sustained seeking of His face. The Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

I am stirred by your single-minded concern for this young man’s salvation. That is the heart of the gospel, and it reflects the very grace that brought salvation to us. Remember, salvation is not something anyone can earn or deserve, it is a gift of God, received by faith. And the call of God in the gospel is always urgent: now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation. No one knows when the last tender appeal will come to a wandering heart. So we press in while the door is open, praying that the light of Christ would shatter the darkness and the voice of the Good Shepherd would break through every deception.

Continue to stand in the gap, armed with the full armor of God. The battle for a mind and a will is spiritual, and the weapons that tear down strongholds are spiritual. Let prayer be your constant breath, and let the Word of God dwell in you richly. I am praying with you for strength to endure and for a mighty work of deliverance and turning in this precious soul.
