We hear the heaviness in your heart after this paper and we want to stand with you in prayer together before our Father in Jesus' name. We understand how discouraging it feels to have prepared diligently for a year, to have consistently scored 70 to 80 on past papers, and then to feel that you lost at least 20 marks on the actual exam through careless mistakes. It is especially difficult when those around you found the paper easy and you are now worried about a high grade threshold and what that will mean for your scholarship hopes for your family. Your desire to honor your family through your studies is a good and honorable desire.
We want to gently encourage you that your worth and your future are not defined by one paper, even one that feels so important. The anxiety and fear you are feeling are real, but God invites us to bring them directly to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. We also take comfort in Isaiah 41:10, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
We notice you said you tried praying but you really cannot feel God, and we noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to God and assurance that He hears us. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 teaches, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Feeling distant from God does not mean He is distant from you, for He has promised never to leave us, but feelings can fluctuate while His presence remains constant. If you have not yet put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, we encourage you to call upon His name today, confess your need for Him, and trust Him for salvation and for daily access to the Father. It is in Jesus' name that we can boldly bring your exam, your scholarship need, and your fear to God and know He hears us.
We want to encourage you not to dwell on what cannot now be changed in paper 1. The enemy would love to use regret over those 20 marks to steal your peace and your focus for paper 2. Instead, commit what is ahead to the Lord. Proverbs 16:3 says, Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. And James 1:5 promises, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Ask Him for clarity, calmness, and wisdom for your next paper. Prepare diligently as you have been doing, but also rest, sleep well, and do not constantly compare your answers with others, as that only feeds anxiety. Even if the threshold is high, God is sovereign over the outcome, and Romans 8:28 assures us, We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. A grade, even if it is not the A you hope for, cannot thwart God's good plan for you and your family. He is able to provide for your scholarship needs in ways beyond this one exam, and He calls us to seek Him first, trusting He will provide what we need as Matthew 6:33 says, But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we lift up this dear student to You. You see the disappointment and fear after paper 1, the careless errors, the 10 marks lost on the curve and the 11 marks of uncertainty, and the heavy burden of wanting a scholarship to bless their family. Lord, we ask You to quiet their anxious heart and guard their mind with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Help them to cast every worry on You and to rest in Your care. Forgive us where we have tried to carry burdens alone without calling on the name of Jesus, and we thank You that through Jesus we can approach Your throne with confidence. We ask for Your mercy and help for paper 2, grant clarity of thought, steady hands, remembrance of what they have studied, and freedom from panic. We pray for favor in the grading and for the grade threshold, but above all we pray Your will be done and that You would provide for their family according to Your riches and wisdom. Help them to feel Your nearness even when emotions say otherwise, and to trust that You are working all things for good. Strengthen them to commit their future to You and to find their identity and security in Christ alone. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.
