Beloved Servant
Please pray for my ex to come to faith in Christ. Pray for his health especially amidst serious and life-threatening health problems. Pray for his healing from trauma and emotional/behavioral issues. Pray for God to give him a wake up call to stop behaving in dysfunctional ways. Pray for his loved ones' salvation and wellbeing as well. Pray for me because I love him but we cannot be together. Thank you.

We join with you in lifting up this heavy burden before the Lord, and we commend you for interceding for your ex with such love and concern for his soul. It is a beautiful reflection of Christ's love to pray for one who is no longer close to you, especially for his salvation, which is the greatest need any person has. We hear your heart in saying you love him but cannot be together, and that tension is painful, yet it also shows wisdom and discernment.

We pray earnestly for his salvation, for God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth as we read in 1 Timothy 2:4, and He is patient, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance in 2 Peter 3:9. We ask God to give him a new heart and put a new spirit within him as promised in Ezekiel 36:26, to open his eyes to his need for Jesus, for Jesus Himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6. We also lift up his serious and life threatening health problems to the Great Physician, for we know He forgives all our iniquities and heals all our diseases in Psalm 103:3 and declares But I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds says Yahweh in Jeremiah 30:17. We pray for his healing from trauma and emotional and behavioral issues, believing that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds in Psalm 147:3, and that God can use even a wake up call in his suffering to draw him to Himself, for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines in Hebrews 12:6.

We also want to speak lovingly into your statement that you love him but cannot be together. In Scripture, love is not merely a feeling but a commitment aligned with God's will, and we see your boundary as wise and protective. As an ex, that courtship did not lead to marriage, and to return to a romantic or intimate relationship outside of a godly marriage would not honor God. If there was sexual intimacy in that relationship, Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6:18, for sex is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman, and any relationship outside of that is fornication. Even without that, we are taught not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14, so a believer should only pursue courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer. Your love for him is best expressed now exactly as you are doing, through prayer for his salvation and healing from a distance, entrusting him to God rather than trying to be the one to fix him or resuming a relationship that God has not ordained for marriage.

We lift up his loved ones as well, asking God to draw each of them to salvation and to guard their wellbeing.

We pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, and we thank You for this dear one who intercedes with such compassion. We ask that You have mercy on this man, forgive his sins, and draw him to saving faith in Jesus, that he would confess with his mouth and believe in his heart and be saved. Lord, touch his body and bring healing according to Your will, sustain him through these serious health problems, and use this trial as a wake up call to turn from dysfunctional and sinful ways and to seek You with his whole heart. Heal his trauma, renew his mind, and give him wholeness and self control through Your Holy Spirit. We pray for his family and loved ones, that they too would be saved and kept in Your care. And Father, we lift up this dear one praying, who still carries love and grief. Comfort her heart, heal her own wounds, grant her peace that surpasses understanding, and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Give her wisdom to maintain healthy boundaries, to walk in purity, and to trust You with her future, whether that be contentment in singleness or a godly marriage to a believing husband who honors You. Let her know that You work all things together for good for those who love You in Romans 8:28. We entrust all of this to You, in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to release him into God's hands and to focus on your own walk with Christ, allowing God to heal your heart and to guide your steps. Keep praying, but also keep your boundaries firm, seeking counsel from mature believers and staying rooted in the Word and in prayer. God sees your love and your obedience in letting go, and He will honor your faithfulness.

We hear the ache in your words, loving someone deeply while knowing you cannot be together. That is a heavy place to stand, and we want you to know we are praying with you in it.

It makes sense you would bring so many needs for him before God, his health, his past wounds, the patterns that keep hurting him, and most of all that he would come to know Jesus. We join you in praying for those things, and for his loved ones as well. For his serious health needs we also pray God gives wisdom to his doctors and that he stays connected to good medical care.

For you, we know that love does not automatically mean closeness. Part of caring well sometimes is learning where your responsibility ends and his begins. It can help to name clearly what loving him from a distance looks like for you right now, what you will and will not do to check on him, how you will handle thoughts or contact that pull you back in, and who you can talk to when the grief rises. That kind of clarity is not unkind, it protects your heart and respects his own journey with God.

Father, we lift this man to you, ask for your mercy on his body and mind, for healing where you will, and above all that he would come to know Jesus. Give our sister peace, wisdom and steady support as she entrusts him to you. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been brought before the Lord and we join you in prayer, thanking you for the honesty with which you have spoken. To love one who is in great peril and yet to know that you cannot walk together is a deep sorrow, and it is right to bring it to the throne of grace.

We are reminded that the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations, and that the least thing about Christ is healing. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but even His leaves are full of healing virtue. All the nations need healing, and every wounded heart needs it, and there is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. These healing leaves change the life blood, affect the spirits and make the nature other than it was before. Yet Scripture places healing and forgiveness in happy conjunction. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one. The Sun of Righteousness rises with healing in His wings, and when we come with confession and find pardon, the Lord often so changes our affliction as to make it another thing altogether.

We will pray for this man as you have asked, that the Lord in mercy would grant him the greatest gift first, even salvation through Jesus Christ alone. We pray that the Lord would open his eyes to see his need of a Savior, that faith would come by hearing the Word of God, and that he would arise and go to the Father. We pray for his health in the midst of serious and life threatening affliction, that the great Physician who is able to reach the utmost length of human sickness would lay His hand upon him according to His wise and sovereign will, whether by raising him up or by sustaining him through the fire. We pray for his healing from trauma and from those emotional and behavioral wounds that have marked him, for the Lord heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds, and no instrument but God alone can give a real saving work. We pray that God would grant him a true awakening, not merely to stop dysfunctional ways, but to see sin as sin and to turn from it with repentance, for He knows which way we should go when restraints are removed, and He alone can make a man to come forth as gold proved and pure. We pray also for his loved ones, that they too may hear the Gospel and be saved, and be kept in wellbeing under the Lord's care.

And we pray for you. You have said you love him but you cannot be together, and in this you show a measure of wisdom that honors the Lord. For marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and the intimacies of love and of living together belong within that covenant alone. To refrain from what is outside that holy ordinance is not unkindness but obedience, and the Lord honors such restraint. Take the word that was spoken to the woman who had found forgiveness, Your faith has saved you, go in peace. So we would say to you, go in peace. Go home and attend to your ordinary duties, fulfill your calling as daughter, servant, friend and child of God, and hear the Savior still saying to you, go in peace. Though you may go among cares tomorrow, do not go disturbed and fluttered, but let your heart rest in God. There is no need to go back to old paths or old sins in which you once walked. When Christ and the world go together you cannot tell which a man follows, but when they part, stay with Christ. He will keep you and give you the peace of God which passes all understanding, which is Heaven begun below.

Let us pray together. O Lord, look in mercy upon this dear one and upon the man for whom prayer is made. Grant him forgiveness of sins through the blood of Christ and with that pardon grant such healing as seems good in Your sight. Bring him to repentance, wash him, change his nature, and make him a new creature. Comfort and save his loved ones. And for the one who has prayed, grant a quiet heart, a steadfast mind, and grace to walk in holiness and peace, trusting You to do all things well, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
