We join with you in lifting up your ex before the throne of grace and we thank you for your compassionate heart to intercede for him even after your relationship has ended. It is a Christlike love that prays for the salvation and wellbeing of another, especially one who is struggling so deeply.
We pray first for his greatest need, which is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. We are encouraged that you desire this for him, for this is the heart of God Himself. As it is written, The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance, 2 Peter 3:9. And also, God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth, 1 Timothy 2:4. We pray that God in His mercy would draw him to Himself, open his eyes to the truth of the gospel, and give him a new heart. We pray as promised in Ezekiel 36:26, I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. We ask that he would confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in his heart that God raised Him from the dead and be saved, Romans 10:9, for Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12.
We also bring his serious and life threatening health problems before the Lord, our Great Physician. We pray for His healing hand upon his body according to His will and for wisdom for those caring for him. We claim the promise, But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh, Jeremiah 30:17. We ask that even in his physical suffering, God would use this trial as the wake up call you have prayed for, to humble him, to cause him to consider his ways and turn from dysfunctional and destructive patterns. We pray that God would grant him repentance and self control, that he would no longer walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit, and that he would put off the old man and be renewed in the spirit of his mind, Ephesians 4:22-23.
We lift up his trauma and his emotional and behavioral struggles. The Lord sees his brokenness and we pray for deep inner healing. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. We pray that God would heal the wounds of his past, deliver him from any bondage, and teach him to walk in truth, sobriety, and obedience to Christ. We rebuke any pattern of dysfunction or sin that keeps him from wholeness, and we pray that he would come to hate what is evil and cling to what is good, Romans 12:9, seeking accountability and godly counsel rather than continuing in ways that harm himself and others.
We join you in praying for his loved ones as well, that they too would come to saving faith in Jesus Christ and be kept in health and wellbeing. We pray, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household, Acts 16:31, and that God would surround them with protection, comfort and truth.
We pray for you as you continue to intercede, that God would give you peace, wisdom, and proper boundaries as you pray for someone who is now your ex. We encourage you to continue to release him into God's hands, to forgive as Christ forgave you, and to trust that God is sovereign and good even when the answer is not yet seen.
Father, we come together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and lift this man to You. Lord, have mercy on him, save his soul, forgive his sins, and make him a new creation in Christ. Touch his body and bring healing if it be Your will, heal his broken heart and mind, deliver him from trauma and from every dysfunctional way, and awaken him to Your truth and Your love. Draw his loved ones to Yourself as well and let Your salvation come to his whole circle. Give our dear intercessor strength and peace as she waits on You. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.
